    Ms. Samantha Green of the Department of Investigations. Works for some company called Global out of California. Call the 866 number with a claim number and the folks can't tell you anything about the company. No web address, won't tell you what city they are located in and they will become rude and hang up. The cell phone will not answer any calls and goes strait to voice mail.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
    December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

    — filed under: Press Release

    The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

    According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

    The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

    Well if there is a legit global I'm guessing it is not the company who contacted me or this fake cell number with a man calling from the dept of investigations either.  I'm sure the calls will continue tomorrow.  But I'm currently in the process of filing more complaints   And taking legal action.

    Yes, one would think that it's not possible for a professional and ethical debt collection outfit to not abide by all state and federal consumer protection rules, regulations, and laws. But, when dealing with debt collectors you are not dealing with professionals displaying any regard to ethics. Yes, thinking that it's purely a scam leaves out the option that you're dealing with cowardly predators disguised as professionals. What's a few phone calls to Global whatever asking hey why are you harassing me and my family at whatever phone numbers they're calling? You might receive your answer on the phone by calling them and not listening to their BS lies and denials. If it's you that's the family member of a debtor being called then let the denials begin from them but it'll come as wrong name, wrong number, hey we didn't know you were a family member, or my favorite is we get our numbers from a vendor and how they didn't know. The debt collector industry nationwide works off of deception and unfair business practices.

    This global is a scam. Why should we call them and entertain them more. Do not pay these people a dime.  When you took out a loan and it went delinquent   They sold it off. Then it became open season  your information again got out to everyone good and bad. Who knows who really got your loan. But this global is not the company ,they're a scam ! Beware.   I'm having them investigated  !

    Yes, debt collectors and their use of networks that use deceptive and unfair business practices that can be described as either scamming professionals or professional scammers! Your call is for informational purposes to gain knowledge as to why they're calling, harassing, abusing, and exploiting you and your family and friends. Writing and making complaints to the business and all state and federal consumer protection agencies exposes the tactics and practices of either group. If, it indeed is professional scammers using the debt collectors network disguised as a business then that business should be investigating who and why their network is being used. Or, if it's the unprofessional and unethical business practices / tactics used by the scamming professionals, in this example "Global,"  then it is under all state and federal consumer protection agencies to conduct an investigation for consumer abuse and exploitation.
