, wasn't home and they never left a message on answering machine

I received a call from this number on both my home phone and my cell and when I tried to call back I received a message that it was disconnected.

This number (780-854-6598) just called my number in Surrey, BC with offers of better credit card rates. As I am on the list of "Not To Call" I feel these people are not trust-worthy. I would also like to point out that since putting my number on the Not To Call list the number of unwanted callers has increased. Does the government sell their lists?

Yes they do................to the US.  Canadian businesses cannot call us however, some have caught on to route their Canadian businesses through the US and it's not against the law to call us that way.  The list is of no purpose other than to make money for the government and now we get more calls.  Go figure.

Credit improvement... at least they leave a message. Wish they'd take the hint when no one answers though.

At 11:05 AM PT I received a call from 780-854-6598, picked up and heard a recorded message about a reduced rate (6.9%) on amounts owing on my credit card.  I hung up.  I am on the Canada Do-Not-Call registry so I am making a formal complaint re the owner of the automated machine that invaded my privacy.

Credit card services...   Want to lower my interest rates..

What is sad is that there are so many sorry people who fall for this.  If there weren't so many losers out there who were so easy to suck in, then there would be no point in pestering people over the phone and calls like this would end.

The best way that I deal with these calls is by answering the call and play along for a bit with them.  I then say to hold on as I have someone at the door.  I put them on speaker phone and do chores around the house until they hang up on their own.  They never call back....for if they did, I'd play the same game and waste their time.

Imagine, somebody wants to help me lower my interest rate!  Could it be the credit card company?  The bank?....a loan shark or telemarketer?  

I too am on the Do Not Call List, however I've just learned that only businesses holding paid memberships and in good standing with the BBB have to adhere with our request not to call.  If they're not in paid/good standing, they don't get updates on the DNC list.  

This means that Mr. Harper and his government haven't paid member their BBB dues.  They keep calling too.  So frustrating when the government doesn't have to follow their own rules!

These bozos call my office at least once per day.  Today I spoke with a "customer service representative" who states that I've requested to have our number removed from a different company - ie, they've changed their name from "Card Services" to "NA Card Services", even though they're using the same pre-recorded message (Megan from Card Services).
Customer service dude claims that they update their do not call list every 24 hrs...we'll see...they'll just have to change their name again, I think...

Left a voice mail that I "may qualify for interest rates as low as 6.9%" However, they are clearly not my bank and I carry no consumer debt. I will lodge a complaint with our Canadian DNC registry if they call me again. Curiously, I couldn't block the number with my call blocking service.

Called at 11:08 am, answering machine picked it up. Automated message.

"Are you paying too much on your Visa and Mastercard accounts? You may qualify for a 6.9 interest rate."

Is there no way that these people can be stopped?!!

I received a call from 780-854-6598 on my cell, but was unable to answer.  When I called it back there was a message that the number was out of service

The number displayed on the caller id... Offering to reduce my credit card intrest rate due to my high balabces... I asked for their supervisor, she said she was the supervisor... asked why she was conttacting me when i'm on a no call list.  She responded there was no such thing said I would be removed and hung up on me.

I totally agree with you....thankgod we have just got Call display after years without it.  We put our name on the Do NOT call list and they keep calling.....

I totally agree with your comment. The DNCL is a big joke and they can get around anything these days.  I miss the good OLD days when we only had one phone and it was a Party line!
