My caller ID states the name as: "CHARITY". Now I don't mind giving to non-profit groups and orgnizations even by telephone because I know that telemarketing is the best way for groups to raise funds, sell tickets to shows, etc. However, I ONLY give to groups that are in my local area or at least my own state of Michigan. I thought that 786 area code is Chicago (I lived in Chicago for many years) so I did not answer the telephone and let it go straight to voice mail. Turns out 786-358 is from the Miami FL area. I hope they do not call again.

If you call the number back, which I did from a blocked number, it answers as The Fundraising Information Center, and states they do fundraising for various children's charities and veteran's charities.  Apparently they do national fundraising soliciting over the phone.  They are exempt under the Do Not Call law.

These people just called me.  Caller ID states Charity.  I didn't answer and they knew my name on the answering machine.  This is my home phone # that I've had for 4 days!!!!!!  

Number keeps calling

this number called my house phone and it also did come up as charity. When i answered they asked for my boyfriend and then sail well either of you..... It sounded automated. I went to hang up and it said that it was the police as I hung up. If it was the police wouldnt have they called right back or come to my house....???!!? hmm..

Called me twice today.  "CHARITY" only is displayed.  I give to charities that I research, not to those who call me.  I blocked their number on my Panasonic cordless.  Works like a charm.

These people are fast talkers and by the end of the call, I now have pledged $15.00 to "the international troopers". I did not know the state the call was from at the time of the call, I'm in MI and this call is from FL, but I did tell them I could not give any money three to four times but the man spoke so fast that I was talked into saying "I guess" so know I own them $15.00 which at the very end of the call I was informed it must be paid within seven days. I'm not happy with myself for not just hanging up as soon as I started to not understand what he was saying. I feel I was scammed.

Caller id said "I" and they called the house at 8am!  That is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!  Of course they are now blocked on my phone, but come on.

They called again at 4:40pm on a Sunday.  Didn't hear it b/c they are blocked, but obnoxious nonetheless.

They told me they are police dept. calling to request for donations. I told them, I will donate some if It's really police dept. needs help, but send me a letter with clear informations, and I will donate by personal check only, not credit cards. And I am still in doubt to wait for what will happened!

This number has called and left 3 voice messages for myself asking to speak with "Phil" or "Philip". I go by both. I tried calling back one day and couldn't get a hold of anybody. It's definitely a scam and some how the people know personal information. Ignore or look up the unfamiliar number to search for scam warnings before talking with a number you don't know. That's my best advice. Other responses have said these people claim to be law enforcement. Be wary of who's calling.
