Multiple nuisance calls.  Once, when answered, a live woman said "Hello, can you hear me all right?"  Then several clicks and dead air.

So tired of "collection agencies" that call at all hrs/of all days . . . and never leave a message, nor do they LISTEN to our voice mail message.   I GOOGLE their numbers and call from a different phone to tell them we are on the DO NOT CALL LIST and that "no" there is no one by that name at our residence!!
    • Caller: They never leave a message
    • Call type: Debt collector

Taking your concerns in order ...

A debt collection agency (DCA) is held by default to the same daily thirteen hour call window as telemarketers. So not "all hours" are legal, something you might examine.

The autodialers commonly used by DCAs are incapable of hearing or obeying any instructions you might place in a recorded greeting.

The federal Do-Not-Call registry exists to help enforce the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Please note the operative term ''marketing''. A debt collector is not a sales person and is therefore not covered. Here are the DNC service terms you were supposed to review at registration time:

National Do Not Call Registry Q&A
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry

Mistrust of any ''wrong number'' claim is standard procedure at all the rogue collection agencies. You will never get satisfaction from a verbal request, and number blocking turns into an arms race you will lose. Send a ''cease communication'' notice via USPS Certified with return card. This is the method promoted by the FTC and many consumer watchdogs, and the only way to set a legal landmine, as such a notice is ignored at their risk of a lawsuit from you.

FTC and CFPB material on US federal collection law:
    http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpajump.shtm
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/search ... debt-collection

My concern is that you are reporting this as a collector's number but don't identify a company or describe any calls. Are you sure about your assessment?

    Why Me
I picked up on the first call earlier today and nobody answered. The next call (5 hours later) a male answered and asked if I could hear him all right; likely because he only calls old people with possible hearing problems. I said yes and he announced an AARP survey. Two questions about Social Security and Medicare were asked and I answered each. (Many voices could be heard in the background.) This will end these calls for today, but I now wonder if I will get even more calls in the future from AARP. For his first and following questions I should have answered "Heah?". But then I might start getting calls from people who sell hearing aids.

I have telemarketer block, so the call didn't ring into our system. I discovered the call in the call logs. Since it never rings in and the caller can't leave a voicemail, the type of call was not determined.

You are talking to a computer.  The computer calls numbers in order and if you answer the phone the computer makes a note that your number is a working and active number and you will get MANY< MANY more calls.NEVER ANSWER A CALL FROM A NAME OR NUMBER YOU DO NOT KNOW. The DO NOT CALL list is a fraud and does not work. JUST DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE......IT IT IS A REAL CALL YOU CAN CHECK FOR MESSAGES LATER.  Also NEVER try to call the number back or the computer will really log you in as A SUCKER. IT IS A COMPUTER CALLING UNLESS YOU ARE ON THE LINE LONG  ENOUGH THEN A REAL PERSON WILL ANSWER AND MAKE A NOTE TO CALL YOU ALL OF THE TIME AND ALSO PASS THE PHONE NUMBER TO OTHER SCAMMERS SINCE YOU ARE  SUCKER.

    Dear broownbear123 ,

Put the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities.  The DNC also does not pertain to debt collectors, they fall under the FDCPA laws. You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws.  The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone..  You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

IT IS NOT AARP CALLING.  They are scammers and a computer called you.  The computer calls numbers in order, that is the reason the do not call list does not work.  Unlisted, private phone numbers mean nothing.  If you answer a call from someone or number you do not know just means that you told the computer that your number is a real working number and since you answered you will get MORE calls.  They don't know if you are young or old.  Old people are easy to scam and if they happen to call an old person they hit a jackpot.  Let all message go to your answering machine and if they don't leave a message, which they won't,  NEVER try to call the number back as it really targets you as a a person of interest to scam big time.

Receive call daily...I do not answer and they leave no message on the answer machine...I report all calls of this type to FCC on the "Do Not Call" complaint web site.  May or may not do any good but it makes me feel better.

I have received several calls from this number over the past few days.  I have always let my answering machine handle it, and no message has ever been left.  This morning, when the same call ID appeared ("Florida") I did pick up the phone - on the first ring.  It was from AARP.  The call centered around support for Social Security and Medicare, and whether I was willing, at some time in the future, to contact my Senators and Representative about these items and the funding of them by Congress.
The caller was very polite, and no monetary contribution was requested.

I got another call again today @ 1:15 and again they hung up when it went to my answering machine. Next time I get a notice concerning renewing my membership in the AARP I will notify them that until I receive a pledge in writing from them that they will remove my phone number forever from their calling list, they will never again receive a penny from me though I have been a member for the last 30 years.
