This is a discussion forum where one can report or describe suspicious or unknown phone calls, but reporting them here does not stop the calling.  YOU have to take action to do that!  (google is your friend).  Consider buying a call blocker from your favorite store if nothing else works.

I am constantly receiving calls from this number. I am listed with National Do Not Call Registry. The caller identified himself as being Tech Support from Windows. He told me there were issues with the computer in my home. I had seen a news report about this type of SCAM prior to this call. I told the caller to never call again. Today's call is approximately the third call. I won't answer again!

These guys call using different numbers. This time I asked how he was doing today and told me ok. I told him I didn't think he loved me any more because they didn't call for a few days and all the numbers he call from were non existent. He hung up so fast I didn't get to tell him more. They call me and I am tired of it, I tried to be nice and tell them no but they won't stop calling.

They called us twice and argued with me saying they are not a scam and won't delete our number. I reported them twice to the DNC list not working. They said they are a real company and they are not. Any suggestions how to stop them?

I also got a call that they were Microsoft tech support and that they could tell from their office that my computer was not getting any windows updates and it was disconnected from the network and only a Microsoft tech could fix the problem.  I actually thought they were going to try and get into my computer and retrieve info like passwords and stuff cuz they didn't were not as interested in talking with me when I told them that I was at work and didn't have access to my computer.  Definitely sounds like a scam.  This was the second call.

Just got a call from 786-614-0068 coming from Florida.  The guy told me he was tech support from Apple and my computer was not downloading software so it was full of malware.   He wanted to get access to my computer.  Told the guy this obviously is a scam because Apple does not work this way and he should drop dead.  They keep calling back as if I suddenly would change my mind.  Have to buy a call blocker and I am on the DNC list.

The call was actually from overseas. I tend to ignore them, but I have said here before that I want to throw them a curve ball by making up an operating system or act like I don't have internet.

An East Indian sounding guy has been calling repeatedly from this Florida # on our home phone.  Today, I finally opted to speak with him.  He gave me the impression that he represented Microsoft and wanted to help with my computer problems.  And then he went on with the regime of having me activate on my machine some MS combination of Minfoes-key and "r".

I got alarmed that he was trying to take control of my machine.  I told him, why should I because how could I trust him, couldn't he be a scam or spam.  He hung up !!!!!!

Caller ID read "Cell Phone FL". Man with a foreign accent claimed to be from Microsoft and said I needed updates on my computer. I told him I didn't have a computer and to stop calling this number. He hung up.

For thing there are numerous posts on 800notes that involve tech support scams and they all seem to talk about callers who can barely speak English. Not to mention that some of these operations pay their staff to come here to positive messages about these calls in an oeffort to trick people. Those messages are often contain numerous errors in grammar and spelling. These operations have a history using services like Magic Jack in order to register American numbers. Then there are those that use caller id spoofing. Finally this has been covered by the media and the FTC. Links to these stories appear below.
The majority of these calls had been aimed at Windows users. But the number of Mac posts have been slowly increasing.

MidNYteStorm pretty much laid it all out in his post, but I thought I might also add a bit more to help answer your question:

    They are all scams!

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/marcochiappetta/2 ... pport-scammers/

"Unfortunately, the calls are all scams that can have dire consequences. If you haven’t heard similar stories, they usually go something like this: a person calls and says that he is a tech with Microsoft that’s contacting you because your Windows-based computer is infected with a virus and he wants to help fix it. Over the course of the conversation, he’ll ask to remote into your PC, and ultimately tell you that the level of support required to fix it requires payment and that you’ll have to provide a credit card number. More nefarious scammers will then go the extra mile and install spyware on your machine to snag your passwords and other personal information, which could then be used to access your bank accounts or even steal your identity."

And yes, at least most, all come from India!

    http://www.computerworld.com/article/2491067/ ... in-the-u-s.html

""This is the first instance [of a Windows support scam in the U.S.] on this scale that I've found," said Jerome Segura, a senior security researcher with San Jose, Calif.-based Malwarebytes. "Most scammers are in India, but we wanted to expose this because they're harming U.S. customers, who will feel more comfortable with a [native] English speaker." "

Also (taken from the link Mid posted from Microsoft's own site) some key things to remember:
    • Neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes
    • Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.
    • Some of the organizations that cybercriminals claim to be from:
        •    Windows Helpdesk
        •    Windows Service Center
        •    Microsoft Tech Support
        •    Microsoft Support
        •    Windows Technical Department Support Group
        •    Microsoft Research and Development Team (Microsoft R & D Team)

The first person to ever know if something is wryng with your computer in any way is and always will be YOU, not some one on the other end of the phone claiming to be from Microsoft ot some other "Tech 'Company' " neither MS or anyone else has the ability to see into anyone's computer miles away! So, all calls that claim to be Microsoft or any Computer Tech Support person is nothing but a scam!
