I heard nothing when I answered.

Yeah -- I get the same call from Citibank -- some fake legal thing.  Look it up on Ripoff Report (google it).  What a joke!

Received call saying they've have started a civil action against me, yet I have never received anything in writing  - only phone calls. They're not stating what acct they are calling in reference to.

UNITED COLLECTION BUREAU!  Called Me and a female named "Dana" left a message regarding a Citibank account on Wednesday. She then called my mother (where I haven't resided for 3+ yrs)and asked for my deceased father the same day.  On Thursday she left another message stating they had question regarding my SSN#.  Also contacted my landlord/wifes aunt and father-in-law.  Apparently they think FDCPA or doesn't apply to them.

They are a collection agency for Citibank (may be an actual Citibank dept.) & BREAK THE LAW by violating the Federal Debt Collections Act in several ways:

--Any collection agency that is NOT a law firm (or does NOT have a lawyer on staff that regularly files lawsuits) ABSOLUTELY CANNOT threaten you with legal action (beyond the collection activity they can perform themselves).  
--They are NOT allowed to call themselves a law firm or even legal department.  
--ALSO, a "CIVIL COMPLAINT" is something a lawyer files in court, and they CANNOT claim to have a civil complaint forwarded to them or to be preparing one.  
--They also CANNOT call anyone other than you unless they have absolutely NO WAY of finding you.  
--And, if they do call someone else, they CANNOT disclose who they are or why they are trying to find you.

These are just a few of the MANY legal violations perpetrated by this company (perhaps even a dept of Citibank) on behalf of Citibank.  DO NOT stand for such behavior -- they CAN and WILL be found legally liable.  

Upon the first contact with this company, simply do as suggested above --send a certified letter requesting they cease & desist all contact with you pursuant to the "Fair Debt Collections Act".  (If possible, in this letter also try to list the violations they have already committed.)  Upon receiving this letter, they can no longer contact you.

Online you can easily find references to this law (including the code section) as well as a list of activities they legally can and cannot do.

i got the same call from a Leslie Wagner. She claimed she is from a 'firm'. But did not say 'law firm'. Very slick of her. She kept saying to call her to prevent further action but did not say what the action was. What a joke! The call is fony.

I got a call from Leslie Wagner.  She claimed that she is from a "firm" also and that she was going to hand it over to the attorney.  She wants me to call her to prevent further action also.

Called a lady friend of mine looking to get information on a neighbor of hers and was asking her all kind of questions stating that she had been working with this person and needed to send some paperwork.  I called this number, and they refused to give me any information as to who they were and what they wanted.  I gave them the name of the person that caled and the extension number and was told there were hundreds of Michelle's and needed the last name.  I then hung up.   Is this a Scam ???????????????

Called by "John Berringer" (ext 63615) claimed I was being sued by CITIBANK ($4300 debt) and would be served papers on Tuesday & Wednesday (he never gave a date) and they were placing a lien against my house and garnishing my wages.  He gave a case # and said this was a courtesy call which they don't normally do, said options available still: 1. $3000 payment today plus more later 2. $1500 payment now plus $450/month.  Became quite rude and demanding, tried to send me on a guilt trip. Wanted me to put a 2nd mortgage on the house to pay off CITIBANK.
I knew his tactics and that what he was saying were lies so I called CITIBANK and asked the status of my account. They confirmed that that EVERYTHING stated by Mr. Berringer was false.  My account was indeed behind but I was offered several options including a settlement of 55% of the original debt.
I called 1-800-210-0358 the next day to see who these people were. Ms. Jones answered but would not tell me who they were even after repeated requests for the company name.  She finally said "well, they're just gonna keep calling you." She then hung up. I called back and talked to Ms. Miles, she told me that UCB was UNITED COMBINED BUREAU. (Isn't 'UNITED' and 'COMBINED' kind of redundant?) She was a bit clipped but not quite rude. She only wanted to send me on and was unwilling to answer anything about the company. I gave her the extension #  but told her not to connect me to it just tell me what kind of department or services were there. She hung up on me.

I got phona calls from my mother in law and a niece (whose last name isn't the same as mine)saying a lady named Michelle Miles from UBC called for me with "time sensitive " matters and for me to call back right away.  When I called the number, a man answered, didn't give his name or the companies name.  When asked what kind of a company they were all he would say was they are a mitigation company.  I asked what kind, attorney, credit card, collection what.  He said I would have to speak directly to Michelle and she was gone for the day.  When I asked why they would call my in-laws and niece instead of me directly he said they didn't have a direct number for me.  When I asked how they obtained their info onme he hung up on me. What is this? I see I am not the only person being called?!

Called with an "urgent message" for a neighbor.  Not knowing if it was a scam, ot what, I googled the number.  When I called them back, telling that this was illegal, and asked for a supervisor a rude woman screamed at me, loud enough to hurt my ears, that no supervisor was available.  These people should be stopped!

Pretty much the same as stated above. Telling it is urgent to call and speak with them with a case number.

I received a call this week from a Michell Myles. Said she was looking for a person I know and gave her maiden mane. Said it was over a time sensitive isuse. I needed to call back ASAP to 800 210-0358 ext.63864

Is there any way to investigate these people?

Received a call from Michelle Miles today.  Said it was urgent that she speak with me. Stated she was from the UC Bureau.  Left her number with extension.  I googled the number and came to this page.  Thanks to all who posted and gave me a heads up.

Citi and united recovery services has been contacting my neighbors and i cannot believe that no one gives a [***] that the law is set aside for citi.

Miss xxx, I'm Mr. Bentz, I represent UCP (legal/breeley??) Division, there is a file in this office that needs your immeidate attention, if you could please return this call 1-800-210-0358.  

Please refer to your file number xxx - my direct extention is 3656 \\  Please be advised that a decision has to be made on your file.  If you do ignore this call, a decision will be made for you.  You will have to abide by that decision, there will be no recourse in the matter.

his name was "Nicholas" at extension 3836.  I can only imagine that this guy called from a collection agency because he was a total jerk (unprofessional and inappropriate), however he did not actually say that he was calling from a collection agency. he called to "leave a meassage" for my daughter in law (he used her name) because he "cannot reach her on her cell phone". he sounded very hostile from the start and asked if he could "possibly leave his number for her or was that just too much to ask of me" although he declined to identify himself as a friend of hers...he said that if I didn't "help" him, he would "just call someone else" and when I suggested he do that he started to tell me how he just told me that he had tried that. total bs. he was clearly trying to harass her via getting her extended family involved. outrageous.

Automated message to call back and give them a reference number.

Nicholas Macrimony or Sacrimony did the same thing to me.  I got him to admit that he searched the web to find numbers.  He tried to reach my sister who has no phone.  He got my number and my parents number.  He tried some kind of "tuff guy" act as if he had little time to work.  He said his client had wanted a response from my sister by 9:00 tonight.  I asked him why he didn't mail something to her.  He changed his story and said he didn't want to take 2 weeks to get a response (hmmm).  I told him that if he had 2 weeks, then why didn't he drop a letter in UPS next day air - she'd have it fast.  His response, "I'm not here to debate the efficiency of the US Postal service."  I told  him UPS - not USPS!!!  His tactic is to make himself sound tuff and get you to buckle.  Don't know who he is and don't care who he is.

Received a voicemail from a Mr. Bentz, he said the same thing verbatum as mentioned above. The phone number he left on my caller ID was (800) 210-0358 x3656. If this is regarding US Bank, I just spoke to them 3 days ago. i haven't received anything in the mail yet.
