According to searches online they are hard to turn down because of their incessant calling and refusal to take 'no' for an answer. Even when people do say no they are still signed up and billed $49.95. This site uses google maps to place businesses and services in local areas (zip codes presumably) which google already does. But people have to go to their website to search, it is not inserted into google itself. It would appear to be a scam. They also appear to be parented by a company called 'Lawstar' which has no less than 6 addresses listed on the Better Business Bureau website. The BBB gives all 6 of them a rating of "F". This defines the company, per the Better Business Bureau, as questioning "the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices." I'd say that's pretty definite. Their primary contact is listed as Mark Cave, President. Other contacts are Debra Allen, Manager; Don Marinari, Chairman of the Board; Julie Agapay, Administrative Assistant; Katherine Manglona, CFO; Bo Sohrabi, Attorney Liason; David Harris, unknown. Primary phone number is listed as 888-529-7526. Other phone numbers are 888-775-9400, 800-460-0078, 323-525-3900, 800-222-5529, 800-984-6666, 310-691-7419, 800-886-4529.

I own a business in California and am being charged $49.95 per month, an an ongoing basis, for an internet service I did NOT authorize, or know anything about, until it showed up on my AT&T statement in September 2007.  I called both AT&T and the USA Business Directory last month, and told them to reverse the charges and cancel the monthly billing -- the agreed to do it.  However, the $49.95 showed up on my statement a second time in October 2007.  I called USA Business Directory today and they refused to stop the billing because they said "one of my employees authorized it".

Hourly employees answer the phone at our retail shop, and they routinely give out their name to callers.  USA Business Directory claims they have "Shellie's approval".  Neither Shellie, or any of my other employees, have authority to approve billing to my business account.  This billing was the result of an inbound telemarketing slamming call in August 2007.

      The fraudulent charges are from:
      The Billing Resource -- 888-296-8079
On behalf of:  USA Business Directory -- 800-222-5529
The "supervisor" I spoke with at USA Business Directory was Richard at Ext 205.  He would not give his last name.

Amount of charge:  $49.95 PER MONTH. They billed me in September and again in October 2007.  I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the California Public Utilities Commission.

A similar situation happened to my husband.  The problem here is that on top of calling him and asking if he would be okay to receive a package about their services "free of charge" which he agreed to review, they never sent a package, and then they billed my personal AT&T phone bill where he is not on the account.

What is really aggravating, is it was for a company he used to work for, not his own company, and has nothing to do with me.

I went ahead and cancelled my service with AT&T as I don't want any more mysterious, unauthorized charges from these folks since they clearly employ unscrupulous tactics, and I cannot believe AT&T can allow them to put a charge onto my account.  I reported it to the AT&T Fraud division and the removed the charge but claimed the company will still bill me.  me?  I never talked to anyone!  Zipweb ended the service that was never requested after my painful and lengthy phone call but did say I owe them the $54.45 charge (they added tax)!  I won't pay it, and they will no longer have an active phone account to try to bill again.

Their growth that they speak of is obtained by less than ethical tactics, not a good long-term business model.

Ask them if they have a signature. That's all you need do.

A verbal consent is also considered contractual which is why this type of problem is very painful to resolve, but possible!  Even though they do not have the person's signature in writing, they have their consent on a recording, which makes it legal and binding.  However, their tactics are anything but legal and binding!

To keep this from happening in the future, call your phone company and have them put a cramming block on the number, Even if they try and trick you the transaction can't go through

They call at least once a day.  I never answer, and now that I know who they are and what they do, I will never answer!   Thanks for the information.

Cramming is illegal. File a complaint with your State public utilities comission.

Also record the date etc when you tell the person 'remove my number from your mailing list". If it persists complain to the FCC and the FTC. The DNC list may or may not cover businesses....but thats irrelevant as there are laws against repeated calls after you say NO!

zipweb.com doesn't give a contact ADRESS or PHONE number on their website...does that tell you anything?

If it sounds like an overseas call or someone gargling on the phone tell them dont call again or if you dont want to deal with it just hang up.

I just got a call from these idiots and the person on the other end was speaking a language I couldn't identify (perhaps Middle Eastern?!?). I said "hello?" And they promptly hung up. This was the second time they called within a couple of hours. The first time, I left the machine answer. Of course, no message!

I have called these people back *THREE* times. Each time I was assured that my number would be removed from their calling list. That was the week of 1/5/2009. Today is the 19th of January and they are *STILL* calling me!!! I've had it with these morons!!!

Joe, you are to be complimented for the informative presentation in research style.

In our case we have their main number programmed into the phone switch to dump into voice jail and we never answer them. They call incessantly, but all they get directed to is our "voice jail".

I get calls from this number all the time.  Yesterday morning, for example, I got one at 9:38, 10:29, 11:45, 11:53.  I don't answer.  Am glad I don't after reading this.  Thanks to you all.

We, too, have asked 2 times to be put on their "do not call" list.  Ahhhhh, exercises in fultility are cathartic at best.
