I just received a call from this number claiming to be in regards to a web domain name I once held. Sounded like a young guy with an Indian accent. Can't they be caught already?! They call about once a year now.
I also recieved a call from 800-224-8606, and the other from 800-223-9113. In all they called me 3 times total, once was very late at night. I don't totally ignore 800 numbers because I'm currently paying on a student loan and they sometimes call me from different 800 numbers. So I initially thought they may have been trying to contact me but thought, "they normally leave a message if it's that important". So I tried to call back and after a few seconds the phone hung up- no ring, it just hung up. Something told me to look this number up and low and behold I find this forum. And I do actually recall getting a call last week from the woman, saying that I qualified for a credit card. Little did she know she used the wrong thing with me because I stay away from credit cards! lol. Glad I saw this though. Sad thing is someone out there is a little more trusting and will give out that information.
Got the "domain" line too....what's with this? This is the first one I've gotten with this angle. Indian guy (dot, not feather) had my address and wanted my fax number. After putting him on hold and running the number thru here, went back and told him that his phone number was registering as a scam and that his information had been captured and was being turned over to federal authorities, and I hung up on him.
I got the same call on the domain, from a guy that can't speak English very well, he wanted to now my address and stuff like that, But I am not that stupid and hung up
A guy called me asking to confirm information for a domain that I do own -- this information is freely available doing a "whois" lookup on the domain, and my registrar wouldn't call asking to verify personal information. He assured me that his call was only to confirm an official notification. So, I ASSUME that it is a caller trying to verify a marketing database to make the form letter they will send me look correct. I also assume that the letter will say I should transfer the domain registation to them for an unnecessary fee or pay them to have the domain listed somewhere that I probably don't care about. I'm posting this message here after seeing that the phone number has seemed to change purposes over time. I expect a real company to keep their phone numbers for a while...
Just called me 5 mins ago, i picked up and there was no one on the line. if they call again, just waste his time by giving him fake info (like an fbi phone number)
Yup - called and it didn't connect - no one was there. I called back and it picked up and hung up. That's when I checked this site. I may try to screw with him if he calls back.
They called a couple of times about a domain I own and they were asking me for a fax number. I told them I don't have a fax and asked who would be trying to send something. The woman (from India I'm guessing) said some bs about updates to the way my page is displayed. I told her I would be the only one trying to change the way my page is displayed and she gave up and hung up.
Got the call today. the same story like everyone else here. I asked for details of the line owener, it takes 24 -72 hours. will let you know if something comes up.
What a joke...obviously the CA Computer Crimes Unit is not very sucessful because i just received a call 11-months after the CA Crimes unit said they were looking into this scam. That is quite embarrasing!
