Just received a call from 800-230-6127. This is a collection agency.
This company called me every morning between 8 - 8:30 a.m.! I kept telling them I was not the person they were contacting but they kept harrassing me!! I don't know who gave them my phone number but they think I'm lying and keep calling me! How do I get it stopped?
they call my cell phone at least twice a week. I have no outstanding debt, so it can't be that. I want to know if it is the scam that asks you to call back and then CHARGES YOU $2,500.00 PER MINUTE FOR THE CALL. I have used reverse search sites and they have no record of this number in their database.
I called this number from my work phone to find out who keeps calling my cell. It's from John Barry and Associates. I never told her my name or the real phone number they were trying to call. I told her this message was on our business phone answering machine and I was calling back to see who it was they were looking for. Well of course they didn't pull anything up from the business number, but as soon as she had the business name and number she hung up. Will be interesting to see if they call the business now.
this number kept calling me and i never called back till now to see what it was about. this lady answered and she told me that they were John Berry and Associates and that was it nuthin else. does anyone have a web site for them?? well ok later.
I have been receiving calls from this number daily for at least a month now. Same situation - a recorded message starts in the middle and asks you to press one or call them back. Since I have no debt to collect on or want to buy anything, I have never contacted them. However, the daily calls are annoying, how can one stop these calls? I don't want to talk to them and give them any information. I've looked into putting a block on the phone but the phone company says it doesn't work for unlisted or out of area calls - not a very helpful block!
First a receptionist asks me if I am (my first name) in a very polite voice. I said who is calling? She responds, again very politely, this is (her first name). I said I don't know anyone by that name. She said is this (my first name)? I said I don't know anyone by her name. Are you with a company or what is the nature of your call? She answered by telling me her first name again and asking me if I was (my first name). I asked my question again. She then switched me to a recording that said to hold on for an associate. Soon the associate came on the line. This time the attitude changed as a gruff voice said is this (my last name)? Since the voice and attitude were so negative, I hung up. --- Later I called 800-230-6127. The same receptionist answered by identifiying the name of the company as John Berry and Associates. I hung up. Now I ask you, why, when I ask her to identify herself in the first place didn't she do that? What is with all this clandestineness and rudeness?
I always learned that in phone etiquette, if you are the caller, when someone answers you identify yourself to the person who answers and then ask to speak to whoever you are calling. Instead, she ask me to identify myself first, and would not identify the company she represented. This is not polite. I don't like to deal with impolite calls. This is my right as the owner of the phone number and the telephone to which it is connected. It is my right to hang up the phone when such stealthily or underhanded proceedures are used -- collection agency or not. What ever happened to proper phone etiquette?
We regularly recieve calls from this number on my husband's cell phone. They used to call the home phone, but we unplugged it.
Anyways, before I knew what was up they called and asked for my husband. I said he wasn't available but I was his wife and could I help them? They asked me to give them his birthday or social security number. I said I don't provide that number over the phone, especially to someone I don't know. They said that they would not tell me who they were until I gave them the information to prove that I was who I said I was as they had sensitive information or something like that. So I said, I am not telling you anything, I don't have to, this conversation is over.
We do have an outstanding school loan debt, that's about all I can think of that we would be receiving these calls for. Still, I REFUSE to give personal information over the phone to someone- ESPECIALLY when I don't know who I am talking to, I think it should be illegal for them to even ask a question like that.
