Gave his name, mentioned he was calling from Affiliate credit Service, then said to call back tonight.  Possible cold call, because the name or phone number doesn't sound familiar

Some people are so stupid.  Don’t answer the phone if they call, because you should already know that all they want is for you to pay a bill or pay someone else’s bill and will never even give you any info on what the bill is.  They think you will just be like "Oh I owe $5000.00 ok let me give you my credit card # so we can take care of it" NOT I DONT THINK SO.  If you ask that they mail you a copy of what the bill is for, they say ok, and then a week later someone else is calling and doesn't even know what you’re talking about when you mention the previous call.  STUPID.  I can guarantee that Collection agents DO NOT sleep at night.  WHATEVER!!!

                                                         Sincerely,

This collection agent called my number, which is a brand new landline, and asked for someone other than myself (the previous owner of the number, I assume). When I told him he had the wrong number he played some stupid effing game by asking if I had been receiving a lot of messages for this other person. When I said no, he actually accused me of being a liar, saying, "I've been leaving messages on this number for the past two months, so do you want to start over and tell me the truth?" If there's one thing I hate, it's being called a liar, and it's especially bad when it's coming from some slimeball collection agent. I can't write what I said back before hanging up here because it was full of swear words and threats. In short, I told him to take my phone number and stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

Someone called me from this number, told me I had some sort of debt to pay. I called them back and spoke my mind to a representative, who apparantly had no clue what was happening.  I'm gonna hunt them down and thoroughly enjoy prank calling them (as soon as I get my hands on one of my friend's cell phones).

Thanks for the info.  I called the number you provided and got the problem resolved.  And by the way, I spoke to Christy and she said the issue with them hanging up is a system problem, not them being rude and she apologized for it.  Again, thanks so much for the info!!

    Hahaha, really?

I used to work for these guys. Collections is the crappiest job ever, I hated it, and everyone who works there hates it too. Try not to be too hard on them, it's a super-high-pressure job, and you really do owe money to someone somewhere. Unless someone messed up.

My advice, though, is to record all the calls you get from them. There are very strict laws governing collections agencies and them breaking any one of them with you (such as calling at 1am) can get your bill stricken from your credit report! :D

collections agents arent that bad. most would rather work with you then against you if you give them the chance. people dont realize the more you ignore and hang up the more they call if you would take the time to talk to them and get a plan figured out that works to satisfy both ends there wouldnt be a problem. youre the one who got yourself in the debt in the first place if you cant face it now it just shows how you were brought up. as far as wrong numbers.. give em a break they probably make 1000 calls per collector per week.. how many wrong numbers would you get if you called that many numbers a week? everyone gets a wrong number.. but just because its a debt collector doesnt mean you need yell or treat them differently than if it was an old lady calling that dialed the wrong number .. just kindly ask them to update their records. its not rocket science. its a very high pressure job like the person before said. all im saying is put yourself in their shoes before you start pointing fingers. youre the one that got yourself into this situation, unless its a wrong number then you just got the short straw they could have had the number right before you.. my friend used to work there.. theyre not all heartless.

notsobad, don't pull the "shows how you were raised" guilt trip on everyone here.  You could say the same thing for the people who work for a collections company.  They accept a job to harass people and stay with companies who highly pressure them to say or do anything they can to get money from people who are often times in very bad spots in life.  So, what does that say about collection agents?  What do you say for a person who is fine using guilt & harassment against the downtrodden, so long as they get paid for it?

I'm not attacking you or them so much as trying to put things into perspective.  Don't use the self-righteous lines like "shows how you were raised".  That is BS.  You are both on different bad sides of the same problem.

The Affiliated Group is actually probably one of the most ethical collection agencies out there.  The CEO is Vice President of ACA, there are not many complaints against them compared to most places, and all the calls are recorded for quality assurance.  Be glad if the account you did not pay gets placed there and not with some of the other agencies out there.  Not sure why debtors get together in mass and call collectors slimeballs when I'm sure the general population thinks of the debtors in the same exact way.

Umm..."Collector"...you couldn't be more wrong. These people called me at 10 pm on a Sunday night!! That is totally against collection rules. They are anything but ethical! They want financial info from you before they even identify what the debt is for. Learn what you are talking about before you post it. Most of us are in the position to where we cannot pay the debt and if we could, guess what...they wouldn't be calling! I will be having a nice conversation with the attorney generals office regarding these "ethical" people.

Ya... if you owe the money.  A lot of this is Zombie Debt and uncollectable until they persuade you into admitting it may be yours and they open up an old "forgotten" uncollectable debt that becomes a new debt because they got some hint from the conversation that it might be yours.  Put the phone down, hang up, admit to nothing!!!!!  They can't do anyting about it or hurt your credit rating if you give no indication that it is yours.  Yeah, people might owe the debt, but there are laws as far as how old of a debt is collectable.  Ethically, maybe you owe it  but these are unethical collectors so SCREW EM!!!
