Have three times received a call to my number.  Caller states words to the effect this is not a solicitation call but it's urgent for me to call this number:  800-268-9806.  The first time I called and asked to be removed from their list.  They asked me for my phone number and they said they didn't have it.  The second time I called back someone answered and said to hold.  After a few minutes I hung up.  Today I called from work and they answered, "CA"  I said I was calling them back and they said, what's the account number beginning with "20"  I said I had no idea what account number they were referring to.  He asked for my phone number and said words to the effect it wasn't on the list, then the man hung up.

Just a follow-up to my previous note.  I called them again.  They answer the phone "CCA" not "CA"  I asked whether they were a collection agency and a friendlier person said they were "accounts receivable".  He explained that the initial phone call is a recording, from another party.  They go by phone numbers.  However, my phone number is not on their list at "CCA".  He doesn't know how I can get off the call list.

Have received several messages leaving this number and no other details other than to say it's not a sales call. I was skeptical, but since they kept leaving this message, I called today. The person who answered (with a Tony-Soprano-sounding voice) said, "CCA". I said, "I keep getting messages to call this number." Then he said, "Can you hold on a second?" I held for a while but then hung up thinking if this is really something to concern me, wouldn't they leave me a more detailed message or handle my phone call in a more professional manner?

if you have your number listed on the do-not-call registry,
try to get a company name so you can report them for soliciting.

Ok folks, here's how you do it. This company is CCA, DBA Collecto. Address: 700 Longwater Dr, Norwell, MA.
Send these folks a certified delivery stating you are not the person they are calling and have no knowledge of their whereabouts. State that as of the receipt of the letter this is a cease and desist demand to stop calling your number. You have to identify what that number is and then tell them to never call you again. But you pray they are stupid and arrogant and do call you. Time date with your digital answering machine and add the month and year onto a cassette recorder. Then see a lawyer and make a lot of money!

I received a message today that informed me this call is Urgent with a time sensitivity matter, a return call to 800-268-9806 reference a 21# this must be done today.  So I called the number but I didn't get the message on the day they left it so I asked the person that answered the phone what was the name of their company, he replied CCA.  I asked him to please repeat that and what did the acronym stand for, he just replied CCA.  So if this is a scam I'm not taking any chances and if this is some kind of collection agency they will not be provided any of my personal information because that is exactly how identity theft is done. A reputable Agency would already have the information they need and would ask for your confirmation (Yes or No) nothing more.

We've been getting the same call as everyone else for quite a while. I have not called them back since I figured they were bogus and I didn't want to risk the number being tied to a "900" number. Has anyone who has called them back seen any weird charges on your phone bills?

In addition, the FCC’s rules prohibit the use of autodialers in a way that ties up two or more lines of a multi-line business at the same time. All artificial or prerecorded telephone messages must state, at the beginning, the identity of the business, individual, or other entity that is responsible for initiating the call. If a business is responsible for initiating the call, the name under which the entity is registered to conduct business with the State Corporation Commission (or comparable regulatory authority) must be stated. During or after the message, the caller must give the telephone number (other than that of the autodialer or prerecorded message player that placed the call) of the business, other entity, or individual that made the call so that you can call during regular business hours to ask that the company no longer call you. The number provided may not be a 900 number or any other number for which charges exceed local or long distance charges.

I've gotten calls like this in the past and it turned out to be due to a cell phone that was opened in my name...so when I got the strange recording on my voicemail this time I knew exactly that it was. I pulled a free annual credit report immediately and there it was...a delinquency reported from a cell phone carrier I have never done business with.

800-268-9806 is CCA Collections and if you are getting calls from them, I recommend you pull a credit report immediately, file a dispute if the debt isn't yours, put a 90 day Fraud Alert on your credit file with any 1 of the 2 Credit Bureaus (Equifax, Experian or Transunion, one will inform other 2) contact the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), Get an earnings statement from the Social Security Admin to make sure no one is working under your name and sticking you with the incometaxes, file a police report with your local PD and one with the PD where the address is located that was used to open the account in your name in the first place and get a Fraud Packet from this CCA, complete it and send it back to them with all the above documentation. If the original creditor will not wipe this from your credit file and still insists on payment, get your attorney involed and sue for the debt amount + court costs + attorney's fees + punitive damages. Chances are they will erase the debt from your record as soon as they see you are serious enough to get an attorney involved so obviously aren't someone trying to skip out on their bill.

I have been getting calls from this number for months.  I thought that they would get bored or make a more 'offical' call.  Since our phone is in only my roommates name and after reading this, I am going to talk to my roommate.  From what I know, any business or agency that is legitimate would not leave such a message.  Another thing for anyone else getting these calls, if a company is contacting about an existing account, they will have your information already and leave a more 'offical' message, and generally contact you by mail so that you have documentation.

I had one jerk call my grandmothers house asking for me, and when I returned his call he wanted a bunch of my personal information which I REFUSED to give to him until he told me the nature of this phone call.  He was very rude and informed me that I had a "nasty little attitude".  He also had the balls to argue back and forth with my grandmother telling her it was none of her business as to why he was calling and what it was in regards to... which gave me the right to give him a piece of my mind on the phone when I called him back.  He told me to grow up and act mature, I told him to f&&* himself ;)...  This was about 4 or 5 months ago!!  I called my home now, (seperate number than my grandmothers) and got a voice mail saying that I needed to return the message and that it is not urgent but does have a sensitive deadline or something of that sort... stating I needed to call within the next business day.  I returned the call from work (cause' it won't bother me none if they attempt to track corporate information) and it just rang over and over again... then went to a busy signal type tone...  and hung up... so ;]  screw em!
