receiving calls--asked to hold then caller hangs up

Get calls on my land line...could be from person who previously had this number. I get collection calls about them often. This number calls my house at least once every other day and leaves the same message with no reference name and requests a call back or to go to payerc.com with a reference #. I tried to go to the website to check out what's going on and the page did not load properly, so I ended my search.

I found this website, which works.  I was going to fill out the form for them to take my number off, but decided to call so as to not leave a trace.  I called the number back that had called me and pushed the number listed to remove my phone number.  They switched me over to a person, who asked me if I knew Raquel somebodyorother and I said "of course not".  The guy said he'd take my number off their list in 48 hours.  I told him what people on this list and other places on the Internet have said and that I was very annoyed that they woke me up, the recording told me to wait for ERC, then they hung up on me.  The guy apologized.  We'll see if they do indeed remove my number.  I got this phone number in August 2010 and have gotten numerous collection calls.  Haven't had this happen anywhere else I've lived.

i've gotten numerous calles from this # to my cell. i've had this number for about 4 months now. no messages are being left. i'll try calling it back to see what happens. last time i tried this i got hung up on when i finally got to a live person :(

I got a new phone number recently and apparently the number had made more than just a few rounds like a desperate hooker. Needless to say, collection calls started 48 hours after I got the number, including this one.

I called back with the reference number in the voicemail the system left me, but the automated system (option 1) allows you to input your phone number so it can be removed from their lists as a "wrong number".

We'll see if that helps. Now if I can just get other collectors to stop calling and also pharmacy reminders about Rx pickups/refills for some random lady named Mildred, I'll be happy.

I just enter their number in my phone book and set the phone not to ring on the unwanted numbers. Then they can call a million times and I never know it.

This is the fourth time that they have called me and the name of the person that they are trying to reach is hardly audible and understandable but I can tell by the last name that it's no one that I know.  Every time that I try to call them back to remove the number, it tells me that their voicemail box is full.  So I called the 24x7 number on their website www.erccollections.com and entered my number.  If after 24 hours it still has not been removed from their list, then I am definitely going to take action against them because I don't have the time to pick up my phone for bogus stuff.

ERC - you're a bunch of bottom sucking collectors. PRANK PHONE CALLS just like in grade school. If you want to collect money from someone the WRONG thing to do is piss someone off - and piss them off by calling them and by the time they answer in TWO rings, hang up. That IS harassment and that is illegal. This country has suffered from many cutbacks and it's only going to get worse. I myself haven't had a HOT WATER HEATER for almost two months - if I don't have money for a hot water heater why or HOW can I pay anyone else? Think about that next time you jump in a hot shower. Must be nice. I already go to food pantry. There are NO jobs out there, all the promises from govt were just MORE LIES.

I got a call from 800-305-5553. A southern sounding fellow left a message that solely consisted of "hello" with background noise twice. It sounded like he recorded himself saying hello as the background noise was the same each time. Very odd. I've gotten collection calls from erc from another number which I blocked since they did not seem professional I figured it was a bit of social engineering.... of poor quality.

Yes all through the day at work. I tried to answer, got silence then and busy signal.  Tried looking up on the web at www.payerc.com - got nothing
