i recieved the same phone call from the same person about fraud charges. they say that they are working for the star company which deals with several different companies and gives the name terry falcone for a base return name.  I had to cancel my check card and get a new one.  Two days after recieving my new card and number, i had $2600.00 in new charges. the same people called with the same information.  they are pulling other charges that should be on the card but i'm confused at this point.

I've also experienced this phone call very recently. I actually received two voice mails, both saying the same thing (calling in regards to contact and question me on my recent check card transactions) and leaving THIS call back number. They claim to be calling 'on behalf of my Bank'. This raises my suspicions along with the name used in both messages - Terry Falconi, which was used by two obviously different people (the first message was made by a female, the second being male). I know the main numbers to my banking establishment, this not being one of them. I don't fully trust the credentials of these calls to verify if they are legit and I will not call this number back. Instead, I will call the regualar customer service line of my bank. I have not seen any unaccounted for transactions on my current bank statement as of yet to consider closing my card. Noteworthy, my last transactions using my card we're used for online purchases. This is pretty much the only way such a call could of spawned from on my number.

received a message at work today to call this number...made the call, and was asked to verify the last 3 charges to my debit card. I called my bank immediately afterwards, and they confirmed the number was indeed from the Star Co., and that they were alerted when I had made a transaction online from a company in the UK. (I'm in the states)

My bank claimed the call was legit, so I guess it's nothing crazy at this point.

My family had a rare Saturday off together, so we planned to spend it downtown. We used the one credit card a few times throughout the day. We stopped by the bank to withdraw money. We stopped for gas, used the card at the pump. We ate at a restaurant and THAT is the only time the card was out of sight. We then went to the State Museum, where we also used the card, but it was swiped right in front of us and handed right back. I think the server took down the card information. I could be wrong, but we returned home to find the same message on our machine, only a lady named "Carrie" was calling "on behalf of our bank" about recent transactions and to call this 800 number. My husband called and was asked for his first and last name. He refused to give the information and asked her to tell him our bank name. She couldn't. He hung up, we googled the number and found this sight. The following Sunday afternoon another call came in from another person, asking to speak to him by name, with the same speel "on behalf of your bank". He informed her that we've called a lawyer, contacted the BBB and have filed a complaint with the state.  Be very careful where you use your card, it's getting more and more scary out there.

I received a similar call, also from "Terry Falcone".  The call was legitimate - several fraudulent transactions had posted to my check card.  I called them back.  They never asked for my card number, SSN, etc., just my phone number and name.  They canceled my card, and told me to contact my credit union to dispute the charges and order a new card.

I received a call from a Terry Falconi on behalf of Academy Bank with transaction review.  She asked that I call her back at this number 24 hrs a day.  They were asking for Jermaine Kelly whoever that is.  They wanted to verify a few trasactions on my account.  These people are nuts. I do not even have a Academy Bank Card.  Ok people what's the plan?

    also works there
This number belongs to a company http://www.star.com/ that assists transaction processing. While doing so it also runs a computer program that analyzes patterns trying to find discrepancies, which is why it's terrible when the card is first activated. If it finds too high a diversion from it's pattern it creates a case for a call center to call. The card holder's information is pulled up from information entered by the Bank/Credit Union when they first created the card on the account, who apparently do not update their contact information (many of the numbers we call are years out of date). It's entirely understandable that people are cautious of phone based frauds but come on, why on earth would someone call you to let you know they have your card and are using it to take your money? We do not ask for the card number (we don't need to) nor social security number or nearly anything other than something that could be found in a phone book. Most people get a message on their answering machine or voice mail and instantly believe that we cannot be legitimate without any substantial evidence pointing them in that direction. The argument that a bank would not call at 8 at night is valid but we are in fact not your bank. If you believe that your local branch is the end all be all of your money you are sorely lacking in a lesion of modern technology.

I got the same two calls from Terry FALCONI (one female and one male). I did not call them back but instead I called my CU to confirm it.  First, they did not acknowledge any suspicious charges on my debit card.  An hour later, a CU representative called my work # (the callerid did shown the # is from my CU) and asked about the charges make on my debit card for the past few days.  I confirmed to her that all charges will legit.  She did not ask for SSN, debit card #, acct #....etc.   So I think the call from the 800 is legit.  But as always, CALL your Bank to verify!!!

Two calls from Terry Falconi, different voices, different people, two different call back numbers 800-327-8622 and 800-622-1361, 20 minutes apart...claiming to be from my credit union to review transactions...called my bank...not legit. we have dealt with this a few times in the past as well and it is documented with our bank. they say that it comes in cycles...these people do this for a while, get the info they need to steal your identity and then lay low for a while...then they start all over again. BE CAREFUL!!!

FYI...This number is a legitimate number used by a fraud detection unit that does fraud monitoring on Credit and Debit cards for Banks and Credit Unions throughout the country.  While you should be careful in giving info out over the phone, I would return the call and verify the charges made on your card.  They will not ask any "private" type questions, but returining the call quickly will help prevent your card being blocked in error.

Terry, female, called asking for my husband.  She would not discuss any transactions with me, only the cardholder.  She asked that he return the call, and that he could speak to any representative.  We called our bank, which Terry knew the name of, and they knew of no such company.  No suspicious transactions were on our account, and we will continue to call the bank until we are sure our account is secure.  I am unsure if this is a legitimate call or not.

Well, I thought this was all a hoax.  My husband called the number and they asked him about certain charges.  Out of the 3 charges, we'd only made one.  The other two were for big transactions at both Best Buy and Blockbuster.  Neither one went through, thank God!!!  She did advise him to go to the bank tomorrow and get a new card.  They also put a lock on the card so it can no longer be used.  Still sketchy, but hopefully nothing else happens!!

    FRIS Analyst
The reason the analyst who spoke with you could not verify transactions with anyone but the card holder is because your particular financial institution, or any that we are contracted with, sends the account information, only the card holder's name, contact number, and transactions the financial institutions wish us to identify.   As another person posted previously, we do not ask for personal information, just verification of the name, and if it's a card holder calling back, the telephone number beginning with the area code, which is how we pull up the transactions.    No SSN's are needed, no account numbers, no card numbers, just telephone numbers.

As for leaving two call back numbers, there are two separate domains, one is for one set of banks, the other for another set of banks, both having a different call back number, but both going into the same department.

Different voices all for the name Terry Falconi... this is becuase the name "Terry Falconi" is like a key name, or code name... it's the name we use so that card holders can call their customer service and verify about the Star Network/Transaction Review Department/Terry Falconi.   Terry is used because it is a unisex name, both males and females have that name.

Soo, basically what this department does is make sure you, the card holder, is in fact the one doing the transactions, or authorizing the transactions, and no one has gotten a hold of your card information.   Fraud prevention, trying to save your money.
