I got a call from (800) 331-0500.  The caller was hard to understand, but said they were going to give a 30% discount on my next bill if I would consent to answering 4 questions.  At the end, they asked for my name.  I only gave my first name, no last name.  They said they needed it to verify the account to get the discount. I said I was not comfortable giving that over the phone, I mean, I dont know who it is.  The person said they already had the information.  I replied "then why are you asking me for it".  It seems to me if I'm taking part in a survey and they have called me from their customer list, they should know who they've called.  Formality or not, it still sound fishy.  People need to protect their information especially in this Global market.  Information is everywhere. We should protect what we can, where ever we can.  I'll be calling AT&T.

It's not a scam! I chatted online with AT&T earlier about a problem with my bill and was disconnected from a rep who was trying to help me. Even though I rejoined the chat and another rep was able to help, the first rep called me at this number to make sure everything was ok and worked out. :)

I received a call on my cell phone from this number today and a heavily accented person asked me some questions about ATT service saying he would credit my account $25 if i took a survey.  After asking some really generic questions,  he then wanted my name and phone number.  I thought it was a scam and told him I did not give out personal info over the phone and if he really was ATT, then he had my name and number as he called me.  the caller hung up.  I called ATT through the 611 feature on my cell phone and they took the call number, apologized and then told me they would credit my account $25.  So I guess this really is ATT calling, but what a weird way to do business.  I told them I am on the do not call list and they said they would update my account records so i would not get called again.

So that really was ATT? I answered some generic questions and then he said in order to credit my account he had to verify my name. I was not as smart as you though it took me a minute to get suspicious. I corrected him when he mispronounced my first name but did not correct him when he mispronounced my last name. I did give him my zip code but refused to give him the last four digits of my SSN. It does not make sense, they call us. I am not in the habit of lending out my phone!. I am going to call ATT and see if I can get the credit due me!

    Hi All,

Charles is full of it unless AT&T just gave him the credit to appease him. The 800-331-0500 is an ATT number but they would never call and ask for personal information like that. It is a scam. It is easy to spoof phone numbers. People be careful!

got a call from this number, was supposedly ATT with a 3 survey question, then you will get $20 credit per line. They will ask for the last 4 of your social your phone number and your passcode. Don't give anything. I called ATT, they said they have no such program for a $20 credit for a survey, nor will they ask for both. She said they would only ask about your passcode, but not any part of your ssn. This is a scam, but somehow they are able to spoof the 800-331-0500 number on your caller ID. ATT told me definatively that this is a SCAM. It was then reported to a Manager at the same call center to investigate further.

I just recently received a call from this number. The guy calling told he was "Michael" from AT&T and offered a $20 credit for participating in a survey.

I told him I AM NOT AN AT&T SUBSCRIBER!!

He just apologized and I hung up. I was so sure it was a scam that I didn't even bother to play it any further, but maybe I should have asked for my account number (which I don't have) and such details...

If it really was AT&T they must have really screwed up customer records and quite unprofessional call center subcontractors.

Tom, it's not the *number* that's necessarily not legit, it's the *caller*. It's trivially easy to spoof Caller ID now. So scammers can spoof a genuine AT&T number to make themselves look authentic. They can get that phone number the same place you did: From any AT&T bill.

Never trust any incoming call that's even remotely suspicious, no matter what the Caller ID says. Hang up and call in yourself to a number that you know to be valid.

Found 2 calls from this #.  We're not AT&T subscribers (for anything, long distance or cell phone).  Even better, the CID name said "Cingular Wirele".  They haven't been called Cingular for YEARS.  Spammer FAIL.

    AT&T subscriber & wondering
I have received 3 or more calls from this number stating they are with At&t. Now my phone for no apparent reason stopped working! Nothing has changed; didn't drop it...
AT&T told me it could take FIVE More days before it may work again!!! They cannot tell what has caused it to stop working either.

They just called and left a voicemail on my cell phone. I listened to the voicemail. It was about 4 seconds long and you could hear the person on the phone chewing, and other people in the call center talking in the background. As I sit here and type this out, the same number is calling me over and over. Three. Four. Five times. No more voicemails are left, but they just keep calling. Ah-ha! They just left me another empty voicemail on the fifth call. This time it was shorter, maybe a second and a half, and you could hear a male speaking in the background. It's absolutely an AT&T number as I just dialed it on my home phone, blocking my number of course. They seem to have stopped calling now. Five calls. Two messages of chewing and other people talking. Way to go, AT&T.

I received a survey call from this number as well, or so it appeared.  This is AT&T's number, however, whoever was calling apparently faked the caller id. I called AT&T and they indicated that they do not call and complete surveys only follow up on surveys that have been completed. Whoever called was phishing because at the end of the survey, they ask to verify your information. Fortunately, I was suspicious and did not confirm anything with them.
