they have called several times,never leave a message on the machine.I answered once I said "Hello,Hello -- a computer voice replyed "goodbye" and hung up...perhaps they were bored ??

A computer message asks how this bill will be paid ? It is a debt collector. We have a common name and do not owe anything. So they are simply harassing us.
This is the 2nd call from them this week but they used another 800 number before.

CCS is known in these pages, but so far no one has identified which company they are.  There is one in Massachusetts called The CCS Companies, and there is one in Virginia called CCS Roanoke which also goes under the name ARM which also has a bad reputation. If you can provide me with the location, I will give you everything you need to know about them.
Until then this is the best that I can do:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
