Got a call from a gentleman claiming to be with Xerox stating the toners for a specific machine that we had, were on back order, but that he could find some for us at their local warehouse.  Sounded legit because he knew the actual model number of one of our Xerox machines.  I probed further, and it was confirmed to be a "slam" call

Tim Harris called to inform me we do not need a P.O. to purchase this cartridge (cost over $750), can buy for under $130.  He was very rude and crude when I questioned him on how he got my name and the model number of our printer... BEWARE!!

got a call today from this number. he said he was calling to see how our printer was running, asked if there were streaks, etc. i told him no it was working fine. he then said that the toner we ordered was in and who should he attention it to. (warning bells as our printer company knows exactly who does the ordering) he then asked for the exact model number so that they could double check and after that he would send me over to the shipping department to finalize the address.

A man named Pete called our office and said he was with our copier company.  He apologized that his office had not yet contacted us regarding an increase in the cost of toner cartridges that was effective December 1, 2009.  As a courtesy, he wanted to offer us one last toner order at the cheaper price.  I knew he sounded sketchy because he didn't identify the name of the company we use for our office equipment.  The "get it today at a cheap price" scam was disgustingly obvious.  I'm so glad I'm a skeptic.

I received the very same call as Lori (12/1/09) on previous complaint except the man's name was Greg Olson.  When I asked him the name of his company, he said ABC Office Supply.  I confirmed with my copier company that they are not associated with ABC and this is a scam.  The cost he gave me as the lower rate is almost 3 times what I pay regularly.

"Steve" called and tried to get us to purchase toner from him as the price was going to raise.  He said that we could call him back at extension 12. This was not the first time that we have been scam called like this.

"Craig" called us claiming her was from our copier company...same story about asking how our copier was working and just checking to make sure the quality was good. He was talking very fast about a price increase on our toner and we needed to order now to get the old rate. "One time approval from his manager, etc etc". I knew that our toner was included in our contract and we would NEVER pay $500 for a toner. I told him our office manager orders it, he led on like he knew her name and she orders form them all the time etc. This was definitely NOT our copier company! Do not give them any information or they will continue to call back.

Just got a call from this number from a man named Jim. from Copystar. He says I ordered a toner from him, when I challenged him and told him i had not ordered anything from him, he got very defensive and told me, " oh yes you did and I have it on tape" and i told him, that's great I would love to hear this taped coversation. He said his attorney will be calling to make us pay fot he toner we ordered. I asked him for his last name, he said he doesn't give out that information. Then he hung up on me. SCAM!!!!
Do not give these people ANY information, fax number, address, Copier ID #, NOTHING!!

A man keeps calling saying his name is greg olson and is insisting that we have unfinished business basically. I asked him to repeat his name and who he was with and he said greg olson w/ abc supply. He seriously tried to sell me one toner for $475.00! What a joke! For some reason I googled his name and found this post, glad I did!

Yes, our office also received a phone call from a Tim Harris.  Of course not giving out our copier information got him a little heated and had his supervisor call us.  When he called our office, and
still couldnt get any model numbers or supplies that we may need, he swore at our receptionist,
called her stupid and a dummy.  So, again beware, these jerks are doing and saying whatever they
can to make a quick buck.  Don't let them take your money or waste your time, just hang up!!!

When we started 800Notes.com we had no idea that telemarketing fraud comes in so many flavors. The variations include 'cramming', 'slamming', credit card scams, calls from telemarketers pretending to be IRS, sweepstakes and lotteries scams, advance fee  loan scams, phone toner scams, fat finger dialing scams, and area code phone scams.
Typically the goal is to get you to reveal personal, bank account information, or to make you do something that will result in unwanted charges on your account. Individuals and businesses are equally affected by these scams although the schemes might be different.
In this article I will outline the 16 most popular phone scams. I am sure there are more, so if you have been a victim of a phone scam, or you know of a phone scam not mentioned here, please share it with me and the readers in the comments.
Send this article to your family members, co-workers, and employees. Give it to your teenage kids and elderly parents (studies show they are the most vulnerable to the scams). As the old saying goes, "Forewarned is Forearmed".


10.    Phone Toner Scam: The scam artist poses as a warehouse representative or vendor and makes contact with a targeted company. He will say "This is (first name), I need the model number off your copier". If the person who answers gives this info, the scammers will try to set up a shipment of toner. Of course, the deal is so good that the offer is based on a limited supply or limited time, pressuring the employee to act fast and get their money's worth. Upon delivery, both the employee and the company are usually in for a big surprise. The price of the invoiced toner is 2-3 times higher than expected, and the scam artist threatens with legal fines if the company fails to pay.

"Tim Harris" just called me.  He is supposed to have the manufacturer fax me something to sign.  Being new to the position, I did not know there were people actually calling who weren't legit.  I will make sure to keep the fax and report it.

Tim Harris called to scam us as well, trying to secure one of our manager's last names so he could bill us for copier supplies.  Someone needs to shut this kook down.

Got the same scam, sent the toner cartridge.  We will see if they threaten a lawsuit.  It's an old scam and I had an employee give their name.  Shame, shame.

Jim called me yesterday saying he was from Canon and gave me the same spiel about a toner that he could get me for $619 instead of the new price $709.50. I just said ok and hung up. The next call I received was from Lynn needing to confirm my "order" with Jim. I told her I needed to verify that we actually ordered toner and she became slightly nervous. Then I was contacted by Steve, Jim's supervisor. He wanted to know what went wrong with the previous calls. I told him I would have someone call him back but for some strange reason the # I was given was continually busy. He became EXTREMELY irate and rude cursing and yelling at me. He said he was sending out the bill and we would be responsible for it. I told him to fax it to me so I could get it sooner. I continued to laugh at him while he was cursing and he got mad enough to hang up.

I just got a call from Scott with this number. He said there had been a price jump but they failed to notify us so we could get a lower price on our current order. I said we didn't have any order and he said he would fax us an order form. I got this phone number from him but it was busy everytime I tried to call back. A few minutes ago someone (didn't catch the name) called from West Coast Distribution to confirm the order and get my fax number. I told him that we had no order to place and he said ok and have a nice day and hung up. At least the ones I got weren't rude at all but the first guy definitely never heard of "no means no."

Does anyone know if this is something that is illegal?  This ABC Office supply seems to have been in this business for years, and is apparently INCORPORATED.  This makes no sense to me. We had the same scam happen to us, our receptionist received the call, and they said our toner was on backorder for our lexmark.  Then they shipped toner, my staff assumed it was from our regular company, then I received the bill.  I sent back the toner with the bill as rejected, and I am expecting them to call back demanding money, as it seems to be the sequence.  I want to know how to stop these people.  They should not be able to operate as a business for so long.  I will be sending a complaint of consumer fraud to the DA.  Please do the same if you have a problem with them.

I just received this phone call - similar story to HH's story dated May 26, 2011. His name he claimed was Mark Taylor. Gave me the infamous phone number and that his boss's name was Mark Thompson. He was very vague in which he didn't even say who he works for until I mentioned it. He then wanted the ID numbers on our printers so he can send me the toners and send us the bill. He should have known our information if he was legit. As I had him on hold, I found out that we are under contract until October - told Mark Taylor the same thing and he hung up on me. This guy is wanting to send you toners and send you a bill for it.

Scott from Toshiba called, and did the same as HH above on May 26th, they have a price increase and wants to lock us in, blah blah

I asked him for his number, and confirmed the company he was with and asked when we had placed an order with him last.. He said he was with Toshiba and he would have to check on the last time we ordered with him, I told him we had never placed an order with them and told him he was trying to pull a scam us and I wanted him to stop calling us

He told me to have a good day and hung up on me-Ha! that was fun

Received a call from Mark with Pacific Automation, he knew our Copy Machine and Model Number.  Tried to send me toner at the reduced price because their company did not send out the 30 day notices of a price increase.  Informed him I was not the person to approve and he would have to call back.  He asked for my name and said he would call back to speak with Director.  After call, confirmed he was not our provider...he is a slammer....BEWARE
