pookie28 Jun 2007i have no idea what this call is about but i received a frantic phone call from my mother because this person called her looking for me. it seems pretty extreme and shady to me....i asked my mother to send me an e-mail of the call details (see below):
"It sounded like thge man said his name was Mr. Suttle (?) from the UC
Bureau of Litigation Dept (?), calling about a serious situation against
XXXXXXX. Said he was not sure if you were aware of what's
going on or of the consequnces. His phone number is 1 800 354-3217 Ext
6725 and he would be in the office tonight 'till 10pm E.S.T. The case
number is XXXXXX. He said he tried to contact you at your residence but
was not successful. I looked up my called ID and it said unknown name

- suzie10 Jul 2007Call from 800 354-3217, ext.6725; left message on answering machine. Man never said his name or company he represented. Claimed he had an emergency in his office and was trying to contact my neighbor, who he referred to by name and street address. Asked if I would go to neighbor's house and ask neighbor to phone his office immediately. He specified this was in reference to case #194244-12. Sounded like a scam to me....other comments here verify that it was.
- fed up19 Jul 2007Called from 800-354-3217 ext. 6960. Left a message stating that I was listed as a family member and I need to have them call. He stated that his name was Mr. Vernon. When I called the number back the receptionist stated that they were from the UC Bureau. I asked her what the company did and she would not answer. She wanted me to give the name or case number to her. I did not and she got rude.
- My neighbor came over to my house and gave me the 800-354-3217 ext.6820 Case no.85-50436083. My neighbor said that myself and my neighbor were associates and I needed to call back with the case number. When I called they did not state what company they were and I first thought that, that was weird, then I ended up talking to some man and he asked me for my social security number, I stoped him right there and asked him what this was concerning and what company am I at least talking to. He said that he was unable to provide that information because of security reasons. I asked him repeatedly and he gave me that same answer. I just ended up hanging up the phone.
- Annoyed24 Jul 2007Everyone in my immediate family has received "urgent" phone calls from Mr. Pierre from the "litigation department" trying to contact an ex-family member who has been living on the other side of the country for the past 14 years. We're all currently on no-call phone lists and are getting very irritated with these repeated calls, up to three a day at times.
- me24 Jul 2007A lady called asking to speak with my husband and because his name was on someone's contact list(that we both didn't know). I told her that we didn't know that someone but she insisted on my husband to give the message so i took the name and number down. She even spelled it for me "Mrs. Morales" and the same number but different EXT.... i asked what is this regarding and it sounded like UCB...but really could not hear her .. And i asked what is that? She got mad and said "this is for (my husband's name)this not for you and asked me why i asked so many questions and hung up!! She was a spanish lady with an unknown number. Crazy and funny!!!

- caldude21 Aug 2007I got a call today (8-21-07) from a Carmen Lasko at ext 6907, asking to talk to my wife, when I asked him who it was, he asked me to contact my neighbor (clearly a diversion). I was skeptical and called back the number given and it seemed like a scam.

- roxanne28 Aug 2007Got a message from a Ms. Heiman, ext. 6872. She said she was from UCB or something like that. She was calling for my husbands ex-wife from almost 20 years ago! We actually have the same first name so I guess it's possible. I called the number and spoke to Ms. Heiman and told her I was not the person she's looking for. She asked if I knew the person and I told her that it is my husbands ex-wife. She said she would make a note not to call my number again. Kind of weird.
- The collection company is United CollectionS Bureau (UCB). There corporate office is in Ohio. They have several suits against them. They are notorious and will threaten you with a lawsuit, tell you to get an attorney. They will call via an unknown number and will never leave there name or the company they work for. Do not give them any information only ask for them to validate the debt. Send them a cease and disist letter and they are to not call again. If the debt is yours let them know in the letter you are working with the original debtor directly and you do not work with collection agencies. They probably do not own the debt so you can reject their calls.

Mark Palm – Vice President of Collection Operations- Received the same phone call, and looked up the number on this board. I confirm that the company is called UCB, but when I asked what it stood for he said United Credit Business. It seems like there was only one receptionist on the switchboard, since I was put on hold twice during my 5 minute conversation. Which makes sense, because I recall calling the night before and they have no answering machine service.
I tried to claim ignorance and told them that the case number was slurred and I couldn't make it out when they left their message, and he asked if I have any service from Citibank. I didn't bother continuing on with the conversation since the 'receptionist' sounded like some 18 y/o boy (when I mentioned I can't make out the case number his reply was "ooooo... dat no good"). He never bothered asking for my name (which I wouldn't have provided anyways) to look up the case number, obviously because the person they're looking for doesn't actually reside at the number the left the message at. - I called the United Collections Bureau's corporate office at (419) 866-6227 and explanied that a Mrs. Burroughs called asking if I knew a guy named Travis. And, demanding that I have him call 800-354-3217 x6758 before 5:30pm.
The lady I spoke with at the United Collections Bureaus's corporate office said that this 800# is NOT one of their numbers.
- No Name17 Sep 2007I've heard from these folks before, different caller and phone number, but it was the same family they're looking for. The woman called herself Dorothy Rosenthall and said she was with UCB when I asked. She said outright "I'm looking for a relative of yours" without even asking who I was. I told her there wasn't a husband who might know this guy so she said she'd put me on the list not to call. I don't know if that means she thinks he is more likely to be a relative of an ex, but she seemed to make a lot of assumptions about who I was and what she was doing.
- ex-wife18 Sep 2007Ms. Blocker called from 8003543217 and left a frantic message on my mother's answering machine trying to find my ex-husband. None of us have heard from or care to hear from said ex-husband in 7 years. That is a really scary tactic for collectors to use. When my mom called her back, it was all very vague.
