Got a call from this number and got a guy named Conrad. Asked what he wanted and then he hung up. [***]!!

I just got a call from this number and the guy swore at me stating "have a f------ day".  He would not tell me who hw was calling for.

States he is trying to find a friend with your last name. Mine states he's from HI looking for a long lost friend. I was expecting a call so didn't check the caller ID, the collector now knows I am the debtor who supposedly owes them money on a ten year old debt. I'm broke, have been for years, and would pay my debts if I could. Do they ever let go?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
Also check with your State AG about the statute of limitations on how long they have to sue you.  In many instances, these criminals will attempt to extort money from you by theatening to take you to court even though they are not legally allowed to.
