just need to know who the caller is

This phone number called my home, left message on machine while we were eating dinner. Caller said I am calling on behalf of "SO & SO" because this number (mine) was listed as a point of EMERGENCY CONTACT for "SO & SO". I jumped up to answer the phone and the person on the other end, said My name is Michelle, and I'm calling because this # is listed as the emergency contact for "SO & SO" I said "Yes????!! WHAT'S THE MATTER???" feeling the worst time has come, and that one of my family members had died. I was on the vurge of tears, and scared to death. This person knew that. I said OH GOD WHAT's THE MATTER? She said who is this I am speaking too? I said this is "Such n such relative". Told her my relations.

She said well I need to give you a # so i got pen and paper she said it is 1-800-375-3009. I said WHY what's wrong?
She said This is about a civil matter, and "SO & SO" has been named as a respondent, to this matter. I said what is the name of your company, and she said it is EMPIRE STATE RECOVERY. She said I need to be sure you will get the message to this person, I said so What is this message about?
She said it is about a civil matter, and "So & SO " has been named as a responsible party.
I said responsible to what? She said E. S. R. I said what is that she said Empire State Recovery.
So what is this about, she said I won't tell you. I said Fine, if you won't tell me, then I won't give the message, AND BY THE WAY DID YOU KNOW IT IS ILLEGAL FOR YOU TO MAKE ME THINK THERE HAS BEEN A MEDICAL EMEREGENCY? She said just give the message, I said not without further information, "Well I'm not going to give it to you" Fine! I've got you on RECORDING telling me you had my Number listed as an EMERGENCY CONTACT, and as far as I'M CONCERNED THIS MUST NOT BE AN EMEREGENCY, AND WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IS ILLEGAL.

SHE HUNG UP THE PHONE.

I have cried, tears, for this for almost an hour now, and I think I just might bring legal action against this woman, and this company for the utter lie, and Harassment they caused me to make me think my family member had be hurt, or died.

My mother in law and grandmother both in different states have received calls from these people. It's odd because I have never used either of them as emergency contacts and I don't understand how anyone knows of the relationship between us since we have different last names and have never used the same address. One thing I do know is that I don't owe anyone anything. I have perfect credit and have had the same accounts for over 15 years. So far, nothing fishy is shown on my credit report but I will keep an eye out. I agree that this is a scam. I also received a letter at home a couple of weeks ago from a collection agency saying that I owed a mail order company $75.00. The amount was so small that I thought maybe I had forgotten to pay them. I was about to write a check but decided to email customer service first to investigate to make sure. A couple of days later I received an email stating that my account had been removed from the collection agency's list and they apologized. Just imagine all the $75s they received already! in error!

These people have been calling my father and brother saying they are an attorney's office and that I have breached a contract. When I called them they said I had a fitness membership in Texas that I had defaulted on. Well, I have never lived in Texas and knew this was identity theft BUT my credit report came out fine. Seems to be a case of "fishing" for info, but it is bothersome they know my family ties.

These jokers have claimed to be the NY police, collectors and attorneys. They had me thinking i was a victim of identity theft, but my credit was report was clean. However, they know the numbers of my relatives and have them thinking we arent paying bills. Please post if anyone figures out what they are looking for...a check? social security numbers? I don't know. These people should be fined or jailed for harassment.

These people have been harassing me, my family and even my work for nearly a year now.  At first my family called me after receiving a phone call.  They were extremely worried that i was being sued in a civil case. What could it be they thought?  We were all worried to death.  When I phoned them back they had my social security number right, but had different addresses for me - places I've never lived and claims of an old Mervyn's debt.  Even if it was me - it was far past the statue of limitations (this debt was 8 years old) I did some research and found that this company is a brokerage firm that buys old debts from collection agencies for like a dollar or something and then they use these extreme tactics to try and get money out of people.  Call them back and demand that they stop calling you and harassing you.  You are not in trouble, you are not being sued, they are not attorneys, you will not get your wages attached.  They are pure scum.  Report them to the BBB immediately.

A Mrs. Williams called my house today leaving a message for my daughter.  Who does not live with me or in this city.  She had my phone number, and name as well as my daughters name.  She said that it is imperative that she calls her back in 48 hours. she left a case number AW1512.  She claims to be an investigator for Empire State Recovery.

theyxalled my phone looking for my father, whom we do not share the same last name. He would never to my knowlegde give me as a reference, we just are not that close. I decided to look up the name of the company and found all this on here.

I also received a telephone call from a man looking for my daughter ...she does not live with me nor has she ever lived at this address ..they said she owed Providian 1,600 and some odd dollars and they were taking her to court and they had to get in tough with her that day or else ..I told them I had no information on her but did take down their number to see if I could get a message to her ..I did and found out that my daughter had already been harrassed by these people numerous times ..she told me she did have a Providian account some years ago . they gave her $500 credit for a "small" charge of $300.00 ...I can't believe she was dumb enoug to even accept that card , However she did and knows she owes "something" but feels like what they are asking is exorbanant. They also refused to give her a mailing address so she could mail them payments ..snd insisted that she give them her banking account numbers ..and when she refused "Ms. Green" hung up on her ..
I believe that this is a scam ..if she owes a lagetimate debt then they scould allow her to pay it to a phisical address ..

No, you are not being paranoid. They called my cousin and told him all kinds of information about me. They tried to use the same tactics on me (fear) that they did on you and your daughter. Through doing some research through the BBB, I found that they are not a credible company. Don't give them ANY information regarding your accounts. I have also reported them to the Attorney General's office in Buffalo.

I just received a call from a man who said his name was Investigator Moore with the investigative division of Empire State Recovery. He said was calling for "Mary" who happens to be my EX mother in law. I have been divorced from this womans son for almost 17 years! WTF??!!

A man named Richard Todd called today and told my brother that he would have him arrested if a payment plan was not set up for an account of 2,900 that my brother says he did not open. The man is a liar and cannot threaten a person with jail for a jewelry debt. I need to know who to contact to report these idiots. I called and asked to speak with his supervisor and the receptionist transferred me back to him. He also tried to say that the company was not a collection company.

A liar named Al Parker from Asyron (spelling unknown) New York, claims he is a lawyer. He is a fraud! He left on my answering machine an affidavit # AX**** for a civil case, thus a court appearance for a relative of mine. Plus, this idiot Al Parker mentions an address, supposedly my relative's place of employment. He said that my relative and his/her attorney need to call for more details at 1-800-375-3009, ext. 111. My relative called and moron Al Parker demanded his/her account to pay for an outstanding gym account from ten years ago! Ridiculous! Anyway, this fool could not even give my relative exacts dates or "details" regarding the civil case. Finally, he/she requested this nincompoop Al Parker to fax all legal documents and he/she ended the conversation! Thank God! BUT these annoying scammers (along with booby Al Parker) need to be reported to the FBI as soon as possible!

Same thing as above...complete scam.   Don't even call back...report them to Experian/TRW/.      Call your local Police Identity Fraud division and file a report if it continues.  I was advised by the Credit agencies to not even call them back as NY is a hotbed for fraud.

The caller left a message on my phone stating that he was an investigator for Empire State Recovery and that there was a civil complaint against me and he stated that I needed to call him back as soon as possible. The caller didn't state who filed the complaint or even give me that complaint number. I called the number back and I got the voice mail of Alan Parker. I left a message and I told him that someone had called this number, but I didn't give him my name, and for him to fax the documents to me about this complaint, the message also stated that he needed for me to call or have my attorney call him back.  I assumed that it was so sort of collection agency.

Leslie White called and left a message on my home phone.  The message was actually for my sister, but for some reason I was contacted.  The womaan stated "do not ignore my call."  I am calling because of a court proceeding, and need you to contact me.  She left a reference number. Her number is 1-800-375-3009 x 106.  I have no idea what this is about.

Douglass Manning called my mother threatening her that he had a warrant for my arrest over a contract from 2000 under my ex room mate's name. He said my name was on the contract and therefore I was liable. My mom called me frantic. I assured her I owe noting to no one and took down the information. I called and left a message. I wish I would have checked out this forum first or I would not have bothered. Anyway, when I receive a call back I will tell him never to call me again.
