First time I saw this number on my call display was Aug. 8 at 10:30 am. I called back and they said it was the 'cancer recovery foundation'.  They give you an option to have your number removed from their list.

Answered a call from this number, said hello about four times, and was met with nothing but silence before they hung up the phone.

Just recieved a call from them, said it was cancer recovery but the line was fuzzy and there was more than one person talking at a time. They wanted a donation to send kids to camp but it seemed suspicious because they wanted ALL info (credit card, full name, phone number, house AND mailing address, whether I own or rent my home, etc.)

They "brighten up the lives of children in hospitals and oncology centers from shore to shore. Crafts and toys distributed through the BEAR-Able Gift bags.  In Winnipeg, helped a family pay their hydro bill as their son battled leukemia, in Calgary you helped pay a family's electric bill and grocery vouchers.  Programs apparently focus on patient services and direct care to children and families affected by cancer.

In a recent Toronto Star article published 15 Apr 09 it was reported that this "Charitable" organization has a 70 to 90% overhead.  Very, very very little of your donation goes to charitable causes.  The founder lives in a mansion in the Muskokas.  The Telemarketer Xentel, has a reputation for agreesive solicitation.  When I indicated that I might prefer to donate on-line, I was told that act would reduce the amount of money coming to Alberta.
Scam artists who should be charged with organized criminal acts.

I recieved a call from this number asking for donations to send kids to a magic show (magic n miracles) opted to send donation by check. I decided to check on line before I sent it & was not able to confirm that the show was at the venue advertised. On the package I recieved there is  an order form to be returned with check, they are using the Childrens Wish logo so it looks legit. IT IS NOT! Do not send these people any money. For any donation, do your homework, check it on line or call the foundation ph# in the phone book!!!

A few years ago I received a call from the Cancer Recovery Foundation asking for a donation to send children with cancer to camp.  They indicated this was their annual appeal.  I made a small donation and next year I received another call and again made a small donation.  Pretty soon I was getting calls about once a month asking for money and they were getting pretty high pressure.  I asked to be removed from the list and for them never to call again.  I did not hear from them for several months and the other day I received a call again.  I told the caller that I had asked never to be called again and that I was on the national do not call list and that I report him.  He became very upset with me and I hung up.  If I receive another call I will definitely report them.

I received a call from Cancer Recovery Foundation in April asking that we donate to send children with cancer to camp.  I requested the name of the camp and they gave me 5 camps!  I called them all and no one had ever heard from them.  When they sent a second notice, I returned it and advised that I had followed up on them and we were not interested in donating.  Today I received another call from them requesting a donation once again!  They do not give up!

I got a call asking to send a kid to a magic show and it was going to benefit the breast cancer foundation.Now, I smell a scam! I said yes because they called during Christmas time and I was feeling charitable. When I asked about a tax receipt, the lady on the phone was unable to verify a yes. That should have been my first clue. I have since received 2 notices asking for my donation and the notices look anything but official! I'm sending this one back with a note on it, I smell a scam and I'm not interested!

I would say they are totally non-legit. They've sent donation forms & numerous phone calls requesting a donation be made, under various different alias.  Cancer recovery/burn victims recovery etc.... and the list goes on. And not to mention, all the donation forms with all the various alias names came from the same 36010 Lakeview PO, Calgary address. Do not trust these people.  I wonder if there is a way to report them?? And a well known charitable organization would for the most part not be running business through a local post office with a po box.They would most likely have a mailing address to wherever there business is located. They're just trying to conceal information. Be wary!

Received a call from 1-800-736-8146 which promptly hung up indicating a computer generated call. Called back to have my number removed from list. Was told to call 1-800-379-2068, which I did. After going through there voice generated prompts (same voice as used in the recording of the 8146 number), the prompt used for 'removal of number from list' did not give a number to push. I redialed and pushed number 1 for donations.
'Carol' answered and I proceeded to ask about removal of my name from their list, and the issue with their recording having no prompt number for this request. She became very agitated asking me for my number so that she could proceed with the removal. I requested that she listen to my complaint, at which point she indicated that they were overwhelmed with calls and that if I did not give her my number she would have to hang up on me.  This is the 'receiving donations' part of their organization ?
I did give my number so that I could be removed from their list and she said it would take around 5 days to do so. It would be removed for a period of 5 years, at which point I asked that it be removed permanently. She told me that the CRTC had given them 5 instead of 3 years of removal time.
I really believe that this is a scam as who would be so rude to wish to hang up on a possible donor because they are asking questions.

No it is not.   Although CCRA has given them charitable status, the Ontario Better Business web site lists them as an unacceptable charity for failing to undergo audit and extremely high administrative overhead, i.e. in the 90% range.  Bull crap all the way.

I have got these calls from a 416 number at my office in Toronto. Very poor phone line quality, you can hear all the scammers talking in one room. They have used the guise of a children's camp, magic show, and the circus. When I told him I don't agree with the circus' treatment of animals he suggested I donate to the magic show. Don't fall for it.

I received about 50 calls from  "Magic & Miracles" in the last six weeks.  What bothered me the most was that when I answered the phone, there was no one on the other end of the line (Never)  The number that repeatedly called me was  800-619-4113.  I called that number, and was referred to a CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER  800-793-1204.  When I explained my frustration of receiving so many phone calls (and having no one on the line),she said that they were experiencing problems with their phone lines.  I said that I didn't believe her, and told her to put me on the DO NOT CALL list.  I further advised her that if I were contacted again  (as many as 4 calls per day), I would sue her company for harrassment & report them to the RCMP FRAUD SQUAD

I suppose this is the same number, but my home phone does not have caller ID. These people called my home asking for money to donate books & toys to children with cancer. They asked if I was an adult, and I said I am not the owner of this house, but I am 19 years old. I also told them I am not working at the moment and have no money, and my father is not available. They still said that they would send out a pledge card for ME, saying to donate whatever I have. Somehow they had my last name and address.

The lady sounded incredibly nice, but used the words "beautiful donation" and told me I would "put a smile on the children's faces" over and over, trying to seal the deal. I would love to help out children in need when I am able, but did they really just try to convince a jobless 19 year old to donate after she said she was unable many, many times?

When contacting potential donors, telemarketers working with CCRF are directed to ask for credit card or personal information and to only call 3 times per year. If the person does not answer, they are rolled back in to the calling system. We recognize the importance for telemarketers to respect potential donors and those on the National Do Not Call List. Please be advised that telemarketers should not be able to call your phone number once it has been on the National Do Not Call List for 31 days.
