CALL CENTER REP
4 Dec 2007
First let me tell you that I am a call center rep on the other end of your calls. Market Billing is not responsible for stealing your information. As far as we know, Tel Media, Pink Ent, Adult Broadcasting, etc. (the list is too long) are not responsible for stealing your checking account information either. These companies have had to subcontract employees just to handle the refund so they can conduct their normal daily business. Our services are not cheap and believe me, they pay for every call. The person(s) responsible for stealing your information are not getting that information from your computer, your credit card, your debit card or a check. We have people calling with information on an electronic check that is over ten years old. MY BIGGEST QUESTION AS A REP IS 'WHY' ARE THE BANKS CASHING THESE CHECKS WITH FRAUDULENT INFORMATION IN THE FIRST PLACE???? They are obvious with bad addresses, mispelled names, and bad account numbers. Aren't they supposed to protect your money? They are the ones charging you for overdraft fees on fraudulent charges on the account that you more or less employ the bank to protect. Who's the real thief?
I get screamed at, accused, cursed at and deal with blatantly rude people every day.....I'm here to give you your money back. I didn't take it. I am more willing to help someone if they are kind to me and understand that I am not responsible for the charge. It is my job and I have limited information to give you. We are recorded and I can't lose my job trying to make you understand, so I have to be vague.
I take a call every minute for the past two months! This is a lot bigger than you can imagine! You local bank, police, and FBI can't do much. You are dealing with the United Kindgom and the Mediteranean. Unfortunately, you are a victim. The REPS empathize and go through a lot to try to help you. I had a 90 year old woman not able to get her medication because these charges sent her account into the red. If I had the ability to help her I would have...but I could only refund the charge and make sure she wasn't billed again.
TIP: If a rep can't find your name, ask them to search by your zip code or any former zip code that you may have lived in. It's helpful and we can locate the charge a lot quicker for you. Please remember, we may not like our jobs, we do want to help, but are limited in doing so.
Some banks offer a one time courtesy to remove overdraft chargea, but you may have to fight for it.
Don't expect us to feel sorry for you. It's not our banks fault that someone is assuming our identity. The a**hole who used my number and the a**hole who took that payment over the phone (you) are the ones responsibile. These people are scam artists not companies. Thank God my bank had recently become aware of the scam and are taking care of my refund and my account. Now you guys will have to deal with them.
You are purely, right out LYING TO THE PUBLIC. Market Billing refuses to give out where they are so that investigators can arrive, as even a piece in the puzzle. They said they are in the NE. I asked, NE what? Mediteranian? They said, "Pennsylvannia." Then, I said, "Give out your contact information so this can be properly investigated." "No. We only bill for Bremen Media," they said. Then, I said, "Well, then, Bremen Media needs to be contacted." "We don't know where they are," Market Billing's, Priscilla, said. Next, she tries to send you to the Mediterranian, Market Billing, ELENION BUILDING 3rd Floor, 5 Themistocles Dervis Street, Nicosia, Cyprus, 1066. Now, everyone knows that place does not exist either. This teller, is lying to you. She knows why the banks are cashing those checks - and SHES NOT GIVING MONEY BACK. The bank account was closed today BY THE BANK on an emergency basis, and, she (Market Billing) claims, they are going to deposit the money back in and asks for our new bank account and REAL address, as they took the money with a fake address, but our real bank account information and our real name. I told her, you are going to mail it to our real name, in care of the BANK, you are not going to access our bank account EVER AGAIN. They hang up. Now, that is not giving money back, but proving the fraud is of a VERY SERIOUS TYPE and an official is going to get involved at Wells Fargo.
Don't give these guys your actual zip code, they're going to use it to get even better at the authorizations once this fraud is nailed, and, they'll just keep inventing more new company names and pretend they just don't know anything. Remember, they got in our account Dec. 14, 2007, with the WRONG ADDRESS FOR US. Why, would you then go release any further accurate corrective information to MARKET BILLING. Be careful, the writer is a fraud and any CALL CENTER REP cannot be trusted. GIVE OUT YOUR LOCATION DATA SO YOU CAN BE INVESTIGATED, IF YOU ARE NOT AT THE CENTER THERE SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WITHHELD TO JUSTLY RIGHT THIS WRONG AND RETURN ALL MONEY. BUT, YOU ARE AT THE CENTER, AND YOU KNOW IT. YOU ARE NOT RETURNING MONEY, YOU HAVE A LARGE STACK OF IT YOU'RE TRYING TO MAKE OFF WITH. ANSWER THE EMAIL TO YOUR SUPPORT@M-BILLINGSUPPORT.COM THAT DEMANDS YOU TO SEND THE MONEY TO THE BANK FOR US, GIVING THEIR ADDRESS, BECAUSE THEY CL0SED THE ACCOUNT TODAY ON AN EMERGENCY BASIS. AND, Why try to put it off on the bank, you are the one conducting the fraud with some method you KNOWINGLY OBTAINED. After trying the email address, conveniently the tell you, there's a problem with the website. YES, IT IS CALLED A FRAUD PROBLEM MARKET BILLING, A FRAUD PROBLEM.
Seriously, "Night of Stars," your histrionics don't help. We are all in the same boat, none of us know precisely what's going on, and you have no business speaking with authority about the situation at this stage, since we don't *have* answers yet.
The call center rep above seems absolutely believable to me. I say that based upon my own, similar experiences as a rep, and am consequently perfectly prepared to believe the story as presented, because it happens in the call center industry.
You don't seriously think there's a company in the US which is either willfully hiring phone reps to further their scam, do you? How many people would be complicent (sp?) in a scam of this magnitude for a call center like PCMSI in Erie, PA to be willingly defrauding people? It'd be on the nightly news when they get busted. Or do you think it likely that they're actually hiring people off the street and paying them $8 an hour to be screamed at all day? You wouldn't last a week in such a job.
No, the rep's description of the job is exactly like a proper inbound call center - you get hired on to work for programs (PCMSI seems to specialize in personalized answering services), and as the company picks up new clients, you get trained for those calls as well. I find it very likely that PCMSI has been hired by the company that lost our personal info and routing numbers to the data thieves, and that their $8/hour reps, who used to be taking calls for reputable clients, are hating their jobs right now. I know -- I used to work a very similar job! I mentioned it here, where I may be contacted directly via LJ-comment:
You can contact me via that page if you want more background and/or can give more. Or you think I'm LYING TO THE PUBLIC, whatever.
As for why they are not willing to give out personal information, again, I have industry experience and can tell you that the terms of the contract PCMSI signed with whatever entity (Market Billing? Swiftpay?) demands complete confidentiality, because somewhere along the line, somebody got their data hacked and they DON'T want that information public knowledge!
Got it? We're dealing with at least three entities here:
The THIEVES, who stole our routing numbers and bank acct info from SOME COMPANY we have all, in some related fashion, done business through, via online check pay, and who have in turn hired a CALL CENTER to process refunds and keep SOME COMPANY'S name as quiet as is possible.
I very strongly believe that's what has happened, though I could well be proven wrong.
As for why you can't get more info from the call center, remember that these are $8/hr reps. And here I will shout: THEY HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD WHAT'S GOING ON. They only have the vaguest idea, and they're putting two and two together based on the anecdotal evidence explained by all the callers screaming at them. As for the hangups, we can chalk that up to poor customer service, but, again, these are $8/hr reps being screamed at all day. I'm not surprised some of them are snapping and hanging up on rude idiots screaming at them. God knows I did when I was working a similar job in 1997-98. The rep I spoke to yesterday was, by contrast, very pleasant... though if I don't get my refund, I'll be on the warpath and will retract everything nice I'm saying about PCMSI.
But I'll tell you this honestly - when the call center I worked for (DialAmerica, Athens GA) handled a similar "refunds for those who've been scammed" program, I was screamed at by people every bit as justifiably outraged as we all are now, though I believe the amounts were a lot higher, and REGULAR - these were scams billed monthly to people's phone bills, which people didn't find for months - and we all got little bits of half-information and hearsay and stories about raffles at state fairs being how they got info.
But seriously, friends, I genuinely believe it is overwhelmingly likely that the people who claim to represent the call center ARE telling the truth in the posts above. The real thieves aren't taking your calls, and they sure as heck aren't paying a call center to refund you!! (What possible logic is there in that?) And those reps who've left anonymous explanations above are doing so at great risk - no offense to 'em, I've been in their shoes, and they're only earning $8/hr or so because they don't have better prospects and can't afford to lose the job they've got! But PCMSI (look 'em up online - http://www.pcmsi.com/) can't afford the industry reputation of breaking the confidentiality agreement they signed with the SOME COMPANY that lost our data to the thieves. This is a real tricky situation, friends, and PCMSI will certainly terminate anybody they catch blabbing to us. Hence the pseudonyms.
You may well think my suggestions are bogus, as is your right, but I stand by my theories, and have provided a link above to contact me directly for anyone - PCMSI reps especially - who can help us get to the bottom of this. And I desperately hope I won't have to eat my hat if I'm proven wrong, although I acknowledge that possibility exists.
I've been scammed on this too for $29.99cents. Back in October my bank manager suggested that I change my atm card that was linked with a mastercharge account with a new number and DON'T GIVE IT OUT ONLINE ;it worked for two months but they struck again due to the fact they have now managed to get a hold of my checking account number. It is so obviously fraud I don't know how my bank would let it pass thru yet it always seems to hit me with low funds periods where the bank is making additional money from insufficient funds and hitting me with a big fee higher than the original crook m.billingsupport.com. Another one to lookout for is PLATNUM CREDIT NOT ASSOCIATED WITH VISA who ripped me off for ninety dollars for a card fee I did not apply for. I am so frustrated over this situation and feeling hopeless for resolution that I am ashamed to have to admit that I would like to see these rip offs burned to the stake!
HELP ME, Please! They are taking money out and I can't get anyone on the phone to help me. Stop drafting my account immediately! PLEASE. I BEG. PLEASE Tell me who to contact to MAKE the BANKS TAKE ACTION.
Below is a copy of the letter I drafted & sent to my bank....I don't smoke, don't have my account liked to Pay Pal or can't figure out how whey obtained my information....I want these folks stopped & will do whatever I can to help

RE: Fraudulent Billing From Market Research For $ 34.99
I did finally get throught to “Market Research”. Their message starts out by saying they are having computer problems, but to wait on the line to request a refund or call back in a day or two. I spoke to someone named Amanda. I asked several questions about their company & their potential relationship to me. Again, I’m deeply disturbed how my peronsal account number has made it to the country or Cyprus! I can only imagine this has happened through the theft of information when checks are cleared at the clearinghouse. I never give out my peronal account number. This company, they claim, purpotes to only be a “refund line”. Let me say, this is a totally bogus scam & I need action taken to protect any further transactions from my account & also to protect fellow account holders. I asked if they were registered in Indiana as a foreign corportion. She said she didn’t know. I asked if they were registered in the USA to do business & she said she didn’t know. I asked if they had a website….she said it was down & not working! From the research I faxed to you, they keep telling people this. I asked for their physical address. Here you go: Elenrion Building, 3rd Floor, Schemistocles-Beruis Street, Nicosia, Cyprus 1066 No president or CEO. She further commented that CCC Network was the one that put throught the charge for an “adult website monthly subscription”. I don’t subscribe to such sites…even if I did, I would never do a check by phone! She couldn’t give me any information about CCC Network such as address, phone number, website, etc. She knew nothing other than CCC Network & Adult Website. As you can tell from the research sent, this company comes up with different explanations of charges. I asked if she had my account number & she said she had the last four digits…0698. I suspect she had the full account number right in front of her. She acted very innocently, but I can assure you this company is not ligit & IMMEDIATE acction needs to be taken. Do you have the ability to access additional information from financial institutions to help determine a pattern or reason for the fraud? I plan to take this to the FBI for investigation & to file charges. Can you give me more information or further details to assist my effort?
02-16-08 I sit at my desk. My husband has cancer. I just got my mom out of ICu and subsequent hospital. I see a charge with a check number NOT MINE nor ANY resemblance to MY check numbers. I call the bank. This is market billing. They can't do a thing but change my account number. I tell Faye at Regions bank to STOP IMMEDIATELY ANY AND ALL CHECKS BY PHONE. Sorry, you have to run out on a cold morning; go to the bank and let them shut down the account number and give me a new number. My other number is 40+ years old! I tell MY BANK-FAYE, no, too much going on. I'm calling you now. STOP the charges! Sorry, You Have to Go to the Bank and fill out the forms.... Tell me who in Tennessee handles my bank's inability to take my authorization but has great abilities to sweep my bank account with a check number that does not appear anything like MY check #. Any help will be appreciated.
If this scam is as wide spread as it appears, then why hasn't there been anything about it in the media??? I got hit on 11-23-07. My bank did a courtesy refund, and promised to be on the alert for additional charges. However, they suggested I close my account, which was a pain. I didn't call the number for fear that would just give them more information. My name, address and checking account number were ALL correct. Surely there is some agency that can catch them.
KNOW ONE CALLED ME THIS COMPANY JUST FOUND A WAY IN TO MAY BANK ACCTOUNT AND TRYED THE TAKE OUT $34,99 WIHT A BOGUS CHECK AND ELECTRNIC SIGNATURE . I DO NOT ENJOY HAVING TO CHANGE MY ACCOUNT NUMBER EVERY TIME SO SCAM ARTEST TRYS TO STILL MONEY THAT I CANT SPAIR. I TRULY WISH THAT SOMEONE COULD PUT A STOP TO IT .AND FOR THOSE THAT RIP OF POOR POEPLE ,WHY CANT YOU GET A REAL JOB AND PAY TAXES JUST LIKE I DO.
I'm sorry, but these boohoo posts from supposed call center reps are TOTAL BS. The reps all claim the same thing: that they are not responsible, that m-billing support is not responsible, and even these adult websites are not responsible. "Oh we are just a call center, or contractual obligations prevent us from revealing xyz...". Here is why your claims are total crap:
1. If m-billing support is so legit, how come the domain was registered 2 months ago, and used to have a real-looking website up but now after all these fraud claims has been taken down and is now just a landing page?
2. If the call center is aware that these charges are fraudulent, why are you protecting the client that is scamming us? Why are you still honoring your contract with them and playing dumb when we call?
3. You claim these adult websites (tel media, art net, free think logic, etc) are not to blame, but guess what, they aren't real companies! Go to www.freethinklogic.com you'll see it's just a reserved under construction page, not a real business. So, you know that free think logic is used to scam people, and you know its not even a real business, yet you process the transactions for them and protect their identity. Bulls**t!
If m-billing support was a legit company, their homepage would have a big link going to a page apologizing for all this scamming. Instead, its clear the owners have just packed up and ran. Why is there WHOIS info all private and full of forwarding email/mail/phone numbers instead of direct ones??
I'm glad I didn't get your call...I would have made you wait for a refund. I just work there. I didn't start the scam and I don't work for the company that did....I'm just cleaning up the mess. Again, we pay our banks to protect our money. There are thieves in this world so deal with it. Don't blame a rep for trying to give your money back. Get mad at the companies and major corporations like your bank that profits off of the overdraft charges. Someone like you doesn't get my empathy.
Well, if you're not involved then I hope you get scammed right along with the rest of us. Then maybe you wouldn't be so flippent. Considering your defending what they did and trying to blame the banks, it sounds to me like you are involved.
So who are you employed by if not for the companies that are running the scams?
