$9.15 charge on 07-16-08 although this is a company credit card, not personal. No idea where it came from, but we are minutes from Newport Beach. My only guess is you purchase from a vendor and once they have your info then they pull this scam. If anyone finds out something, please post.
I balanced my check book and found this charge from Link Services at 800-408-3689 in CA. I called it and got the same message as many of you have listed. I got no call just this charge on my bank account. I have called my call and they are checking into it for me. My charge was for $9.10 on 6/22/08.
Link Services (800) 408-3689 charged my CC# for $9.10 on 8/4/08. Had to change my CC# and filed a disputed claim. Any thoughts as to how to prevent this fraud? Is Link Services scaming only Californians and VISA cardholders?
Just called my Key Bank VISA and had my charge of $9.15 (8/27)from them removed and froze them from any additional charges. Thanks to others that posted so I knew it was a scam. Key Bank tried to call them (Labor Day) while I was on the phone but said they were closed today. I use the Internet for many purchases and banking and only have about one of these issues per year, but it still is freighting that they can find and use your CC info and charge this small amount. Thanks Again!
I just saw on my bank account online that Link Services charged my account with $9.15. I googled the number and came across this site. Now I am angry, something has to be done. How did they get our numbers?
I just checked my bank account today and surprise, surprise...I found the same thing all of you did. A charge for $9.05 from link services with the 800-408-3689 number. it went through on Sept 7 2008. called the number first, got the same message as everyone else. then I googled the number and found three different pages like this one all with people who have been scammed too. I didn't receive a phone call though...like I said I found it by checking my bank account.
has anyone found anything out about this...those of you who posted in the summer?
also I wish there was a way we could attempt to find a connection between all of us. do you guys shop online often? use your card over the phone? visit certain stores all the time that could have been compromised? could our computers have a virus or something so that the scammers could get our info? I don't know...just grasping at straws trying to figure this out.
now I have to pay $5 for a new card, which I think it totally unfair, and wait for the dispute to go through. not a happy camper. I barely have money to support myself so I'm definitely going to fight the charge.
I also discovered a fraudulent charg on my acct made on aug 28th cleared on sept 2nd. it was for 9.15 from link services. my bank said it came up as a specialty store. i too got an answering machine when i called the number. believe me i wil go to the extreme to prosecute these jerks. Add up all those 9.15 charges and these bastards got away with TONS of money!
I'm afraid I'm in the same boat with "Link Services." The interesting thing was that Visa called me a couple weeks ago about a suspicious charge to my account. They were familiar with the business name as being fraudulent, and we closed the account. I didn't know about the $9.15 charge until I got my statement and tried to call the 800 number. I did a search on the phone number and found this site; thank God! I called Visa and told them about your experiences. They'll credit me with the charge. I hope my experience adds these guys to their fraud list.
Found the same charge of $9.15 on my visa card. The "transaction" was on September 2. After reporting this to my card issuer's fraud division, and telling them about the experiences detailed on this forum, visa will issue me a new card number and will also credit the amount back to me.
I did not receive a call from this #, but did have an unauthorized charge on my B of A Visa: $9.15 from Link Services on 9/13. On 9/12, I had made an online payment to the company who handles the billing for my water. Prior to that, I haven't used my card a whole lot lately. I discovered the charge today, when I went online to see how much available credit I have. I called the # and got the same recording as everyone else. I didn't leave a message. After trying the # twice, I called B of A to report the charge.
B of A is removing the charge, canceling my account, and sending me out a new card. As I'm experiencing a bit of a financial crisis right now (due to a medical issue), not having a credit card for the next 7-10 days means that I won't be able to fill my gas tank, buy groceries, etc... I have a couple bills automatically deducted from the card that won't get paid now either...
I also noticed a charge of $9.22 on my bank statement. When I tried to call the 800 number, I received the following message: "Hello, your called not be answer, thank you for calling" Does anyone know who Link Services are?
i didn't receive a call, but logged onto my checking account online to view my available balance and discovered a pending purchase on my debit card that i had not made in the amount of $9.05 with the transaction description of "check card link services newport beach ca". i called my bank immediately, blocked my card, and will get a new card issued tomorrow. the bank said that if the charge goes through they will automatically file a claim against the merchant and pursue legal action if they can prove the charge is fraudulent. good luck to anyone who can find out who these thieving bastards are!!!
Just noticed last month a Buy.com Chase Visa charge for 9.05 from Link Services with the 800 408 3689 when it showed up again this month I called Buy.com and they refunded the two charges.
On 9/23/2008 my card was charged $9.15 with the same unknown identity. Did anyone find out what this is from? Did anyone report this to the authorities?
I almost let this slide because so many companies have several names and I was sure I must have made a mistake when a charge I didn't recognize showed up on my bank statement. I'm so glad I took a moment to check on-line!! Their number is disconnected, but my bank went ahead and filed a complaint and removed the charge.
I almost let it go because it was a small amount (9.15)- I'm sure that's what they're counting on!
