Caller said they were HSBC and wanted me to tell my husband to call them to "verify some information". I said "what does he need to verify?" and they said "this is about HIS account. Please have him call us." so then I said "why would he give you any information over the phone when he can go directly to his account online?" and she said "oh no, he must call us since this is the security department" Yeah right. We don't even use that card and my husband watches his accounts like a bear.

I received a call from them.  I wondered if they where fishing and did not call them back.  That evening my card was declined.  I went home and tried logging into my account online.  I could not access it.  I called the #.  They started asking me questions.  I expressed my concern that I was not confident that I knew who I was calling.  They suggested I call the # on the back of my credit card.  That ending up taking me to the same place.  My wife had gone to Canda and this triggered an alert.  They ended up cancelling my current account and re-opening a new one with a new account #.  Bottom line, I'm confident this is a legitamate # but I would recommend calling the # on the back of your card if you have doubts.

I got a call from them about my card - someone in Bahrain had made multiple charges on it and the card was in my pocket! HSBC cancelled my original card, gave me a new card, and refunded my money. If you are not positive this is fraud protection then call the number on the back of your card (not on your statement). I got connected to the same people when I called both numbers. They never ask for your card or account number but they ask the personal questions that only you are supposed to be able to answer (even my spouse can not answer them). That is how they verify everything.

If the charges are thought to be fraud it will not necessarily appear on your account because it didn't on mine until afterwards (on then off). The company (HSBC) will stop all charges on the account until you verify the information. Whomever it was tried to make 5 X $50 and 3 X $100 charges in places I had never been. At least I did not loose the money.

I just got that same call about a possible fraudulent charge to my acct.  It IS legit as far as it coming from HSBC/GM Card. I bought some computer stuff from Tiger Direct 2 weeks ago and they felt that this did not fit into my normal buying patterns so they put a flag on my card. I said who are you to tell me what my buying patterns are. I also asked that had i used my card in the interim, would it have been rejected?  They said, unfortunately, yes.  I said thank you for telling me that. I will use American Express from now on because i really didn't care about the money i have accumulated towards a GM car because i have no intenetions of buying a GM car ever again, anyway. They broke down way too often. Toyota for me now.

Indian sounding woman called and left message to call back at this number for account security verification.  Also emailed me, but I got the voicemail first.  Called back and was asked to verify my name, transferred to someone who questioned me about whether I'd done the past three transactions on my account (he listed them).  The last one we'd just arrived home from, buying groceries.  They told me there was a temporary block on my account and after I answered affirmatively that the charges were mine they told me the hold was released and apologized for any inconvenience this may have caused me.  The email I received was as follows:

They called me and left a reference number that when I call back to use it.  When I called they wanted my social security number...which I would not give them.  Then they asked for my account number.  I told her that I can give them the reference number they left me but she wanted my account number.  I asked for her supervisor and was put on hold.  She again asked for my account number.  Because I would not give it she suggested I call the number on the back of the credit card and ask for the security department.

Fraud Alert - They claim to be my credit card company but are fishing for information.  Called my credit card company and they said it wasn't one of their numbers.  Also, I called this number back and asked the person who answered what company it was.  He hesitated and then said Superbook.com.  I wouldn't trust anyone who says this is a legitimate call.

Same number appeared in my email with a "fraud alert" message asking me to call. It's legit.

I called the number on the back of my card instead of this number, they connected me to fraud department and confirmed they had sent the email. There was a question about an online purchase I made today and I verified its legitimacy.

BUT ... don't take my word for it. ALWAYS call the number on your card, if it's a real issue they can connect you to the right dept.

I found this page after getting a voicemail telling me to call the number.  I called HSBC using the number on the back of my card, and, yes, there had been a fradulent charge, and I'm glad I called to stop the card.

That seemed to be the right thing to do, as other people on this page have suggested.

I got a call as saying it was credit card services.  I called the number back and got placed on hold for 5 minutes so I hung up.  Called the number on my card and was told there was a charge that needed to be confirmed.  It was a legitamete charge so I confirmed it.  So this could be legitimate, but I would call card the number on the back of your card just in case.

This is HSBC.  I called this number and then the number on the back of my card and got the same person.  I am a very cautious person about scams so I always check thing out.  Anyway...I had rented several dvd's at redbox over the past couple of days which resulted in a lot of $1 holds on my card.  HSBC was just making sure that the charges were legitimate before allowing redbox to access my account.  They immediately apologized for my inconvenience and released the hold they had placed on my account.  It is not their place to decided my usual pattern of spending but their watchful eye has saved me major problems 2 times when someone overseas began trying to charge thousands of dollars with my credit card number even though I had the card in my wallet.
