- Lee| 7 repliesI also received a call from this number.
It is legitimate as outlined in the Royal Bank FAQ. http://www.rbc.com/privacysecurity/ca/alert-automated-call-faq.html
Called and got a message that my card had been used at a location under investigation for credit card fraud and was advised to go to a branch to change my PIN.- Caller: Royal Bank security

You're a shill for these guys and [removed:lang]
.
Royal Bank's web site is www.rbcroyalbank.com, NOT www.rbc.com.
I got this call and the message was FAKE AS HELL. It was an automated voice message. When RBC calls me, it's always a real person leaving a real message, with a real RBC 1-800 number to call.
I'm reporting your SCAM to rbc. Hopefully you've spent lots of time and money setting it up, all for nothing. You belong in jail, getting [removed:lang]. Hope you enjoy it! - Ron| 1 replyMessage is Royal Bank security...
Made the mistake of calling back and acknowledging it was me..
Something about an investigation about skimming...I think its a trap.
I called the bank and was placed in a 10 minute que, I'm just going to
monitor my account until later...- Caller: Royal Bank Security
- Ron replies to rayomaticI too received this call and called back and got the automated stuff...

ns3.rbc.com - JayShannyThis is legitimate. Advised to go to my bank and change my pin as I used my card at a location that is being investiged for card copying. So now tom. I go to my bank and get a new pin number. I checked my account online and nothing fraudulent has gone thru so this is a good preventive measure from RBC.

A: To contact clients most efficiently, RBC is now using an automated technology solution to quickly advise clients of any security issues with their Client Card.

We will tell you that we are calling from RBC Security Department.
Our number will be displayed as 1-800-420-4782.
We may reference the last 4 digits of your Client Card number; if you are unsure, please verify this independently.
We will tell you that this is not a telemarketing call.
This is a one-way delivery of information, from RBC to you.
Again, we will not ask you to provide any personal information during this call.

- BeccsI work for RBC. I just received this call. It is actually legitimate. I had a co-worker look into my file, and my card had been used at a location where there was known skimming activity. Its simple to fix. Go to a branch, bring some ID, tell the teller that you got this call, and she will give you a new card andmake you pick a new pin. it only protects you.
- Caller: RBC
- JimJust received 2 calls from this number on my personal phone that I did not answer. After reading posts on this sight, I decided to answer when they just called my work phone a minute later. It is a recording from the Royal Bank explaining that my bank card has been used at a place suspected of fraud. They do not ask for any personal information. It just tells you that it is important that you change your PIN number.
- Caller: RBC Royal Bank
- Steve| 1 replyI just got this call today so I called the valid RBC 800 number and asked them to check if this was indeed a number RBC owned. They indicated that it wasn't and to ignore these calls.
- WilIf you are concerned with 800-420-4782, it is legitimate. Call ( in Canada ) 1 800 769 2511 which is customer service as outlined on www.rbcroyalbank.com, they will verify security to make sure it is you, they will advise you to go in to an rbcroyalbank branch and change your pin ( if it's a debit card security concern )

- RitaIt's real. I received this call today and in the past from 800-420-4782. It's RBC and like others have said it's to prevent card fraud. Change your pin or get a new card. I've had to multiple times over the years. Nothing personal was asked, except my phone number. Just a recording with a warning of fraud investigations.
- Caller: RBC
- AdamI just got a call from this number and the automated voice declared it was the World Bank. Pretty sure I have nothing to do with them. I hung up. I suspect it was a scam.
- Caller: World Bank
- posswow, some angry people on this site. I've received this automated call multiple times since moving to a pretty sketchy area - called RBC back the first time I got it and they explained that it was a preventative measure. My card had been used at a location that was under investigation so they recommended that I change my PIN. It's a one minute process that you can do yourself at the ATM, no need to go see the teller but I admit, it's a pain in the ass. My new hood doesn't have any official ATMs, just the crappy ones in all night convenience stores/restaurants that charge you high service fees so I'm not completely surprised that they might be "compromised".
that said, at no time have I been asked to give personal information and the bank wasn't claiming fraudulent activity had actually taken place, they just thought the machine I used was a bit dodgy so there was a chance someone might try and scam me. I usually go ahead and change my PIN but one time I didn't bother and nothing came of it so hey, it's up to you. It's probably better to be safe than sorry but if you can't be bothered, it's on your head. After all, they did try to warn you.
and for the record rayomatic, rbc.com is indeed owned by the Royal Bank of Canada and not a group of sodomites. Then again, who knows what those execs get up to behind closed doors...- Caller: Royal Bank of Canada
- kikaI received a call from this number today and hung up because I thought it was a scam, later in the day they called me again and I did the same thing but then I called RBC and turned out my debit card was compromised, so I suggest to call your bank if you receive a call from this number
- SheldonNew one today using phone number 866-280-8639 then asks for your client card and your PIN #. Watch out for these creepy scams. If you become a victim of identity theft contact Canada Credit Fix they are one of Canada's only forensic credit specialists. www.canadacreditfix.com

- KoiMaxx| 3 repliesI guess you should already know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway: FAKE AS HELL
Proof: I just got a call from this number saying my account has been comprised. Which account??? And how would anyone know that, when the number they called is a BRAND SPANKING NEW number assigned to me by my employer. Heck, I haven't even memorized my number yet. So I guess these idiots supposedly calling from RBC (or wherever) are psychic now? - AboveAverageIQ replies to RonRon: When you returned the call they knew your full name and did not ask for any of your account information or your PIN. Your conclusion that this must therefore be a scam is fallacious. As the automated message clearly stated, you have used your client card at a business suspected of skimming PIN's. While monitoring your account for fraudulent activity is a great first step, it would be prudent to follow their suggestion to go in to your branch and have your PIN changed. And also to monitor your account for fraudulent activity all the time, not just when you receive a "suspicious" call (which doesn't ask you for any of your account information).
- AboveAverageIQ replies to SteveThis is false information. If you phone (800)420-4782 you will receive an automated message from RBC Security. They will check your account information based upon the phone number from which you are calling, will get your full real name from their records, and will NOT ask for any of your account, PIN, or password information, or your phone number. Instead, you dialed a completely different number and spoke with someone who didn't know what they were talking about. When you post false information like this you are only helping the fraud artists.
- AboveAverageIQ replies to KoiMaxx| 2 repliesHi, KroiMaxx: I'm not reporting your post as you seem to have made an honest mistake, unlike ALL of the other posts so far decrying this as a scam. This number is legitimate, which you can verify yourself VERY easily simply by dialing it. They retrieve your account information using the number of the phone from which you are dialing, know your full real name, and do NOT ask for any of your account, card, PIN, or password information, nor do they ask you for your phone number. If you are truly trying to help people in this forum then you really should attempt to vet your information more thoroughly than simply consulting the hairs on the back of your neck. (That's MNSHO, BTW.)
- FIGHTING BACK! replies to AboveAverageIQ| 1 replyYou didn't answer his very VALID QUESTION of HOW the bank got a BRAND NEW NUMBER that he'd just obtained from his employer. THAT makes YOUR posts seem questionable, to say the least.
- FIGHTING BACK!My best suggestion is, should you get one of these calls, contact your LOCAL BRANCH OFFICE and ask them WHY you are being called, if the number is valid, etc.
