Called 3:20 pm Sunday 1/1/07. Hard to understand, mispronounced our name, Thanked me and asked if I could donate $85 more a month???????? Said "no" and hung up.
These people have called me many many times (20-30 times, over the last 2-3 months), asking for someone who does not live here, Priscilla something or other, and hang up on me when I try to explain there is no one here by that name!!!
I didn't answer the call (came to my cell phone) because I didn't recognize the number. The caller did not leave a message. I called back because I was curious as to who it was - it just rang and rang, no one ever picked up.
They've called my house numerous times looking for my wife, and when I ask who they are they'll only say that they're calling for "an organization that she supports". When I ask who, they refuse to identify who it is, we hang up. They've done this to me and even to my wife (whom they're calling for).
This person/organization called me at 9:49 this morning. I've received calls from them before but never pick up when I see the 800 number listed. I also get REPEATED calls from 1-800-499-2753, 2755, and 2757.
I just called the Share Group and asked them to take me off all their lists. I spoke to Lisa Castagna there and she was very cordial. Here's their info:
Headquarters: Share Group 99 Dover Street Somerville, MA 02144
Main Line: 617.629.4500
They also call me from 866/499-2755 and 866/499-2754
I called the Share Group and asked for Lisa Castagna. She actually was the one who answered the phone. She was cordial and removed my name from the list. She told me that the organization that I give money to, who had employed them, was Bread for the World, an anti-hunger advocacy organization. It is a good organization, but I give to them regularly anyway and don't care to have a company call me for extra gifts. Thanks to whomever sponsors this web page, you have been a life saver many times.
This is the third call in the last hour (Sunday late afternoon) and the hundredth in the last few weeks. (The first 2 calls of the hour came from 866-499-2753 and 2754 - other postings indicated that they were from the Share Group - same as the postings for this number). This time I picked up. A woman asked for me by name and when I asked who she was, she said she was calling on behalf of the ACLU. I told her to stop calling me and she hung up very quickly. Now that I've got some confirmation, I'll be calling the ACLU and letting them know that's the end of my donations to them.
I just sent an e-mail to the Share Group and the ACLU instructing them to remove my name from their phone lists. Not that I like giving out my e-mail, but it might be good to have the written documentation in case they continue to call; according to the website, they represent a number of progressive organizations, so it could well be that they'll be back to me eventually based on donations to other groups. Thanks to all above for providing their information. Here's the e-mail:
I check this site often to figure who is calling and decided to add a little info since I used work as a telemarketer and a bill collector...(please don't throw things I was a nice collect...the more bees with honey idea). Ifyou know how put this in a general category as it applies to all 800 calls.
Most of these places use a program called a"predictive dialer". It will dial a new number when it anticipates a free operator (which is why you get dead air or are asked to hold sometimes!) The dialer will usually try you morning, afternoon, evening and then a saturday. As long as you don't answer it will keep trying you . Computers don't get tired or frustrated. Here are two ways to get them to stop since charities can call you and aren't part of national do not call lists unlike carpet cleaners and salesmen. Tell them the person they are looking for has just died or is out of the country for at least 6 months (you just drop by to water the ficus. Presto...no calls for at least 6 months and you will not get passed on to other lists. A liveoperator will put a special code on your number so the machine will stop calling you!
