- Ed B| 2 repliesGot a call from a number that was "Unavailable". 'Mary' instructed me to call 800-429-5094. No explanation why or
what company that she was calling from. Instructions also included a code # to reference. Of course, I didn't call
back, but if I can find a pay phone somewhere, (if they still exist!), I may use it to call to attempt to find out more info.,
without revealing my cellphone #.- Caller: Unavailable
- IVal replies to Ed BI received the same call. Haven't checked it.
Did you ever call it back? - MikeThis is a bank calling. Merrick Bank. They call about a credit application that you filled out. They are gong extra step to secure who you are.
- Caller: Merrick Bank
- Shirl SerequeTheir phone number was on my cell phone that I practically never use. I'm on the Do Not Call list.
- LHMerrick Bank about a credit card application
- Caller: Merrick Bank
- BobThey call but left no message.
- Caller: Unknown
- Karen| 6 repliesI received a call today stating to call this number with a case number saying they were from Merrick Bank they asked by my first name on voicemail and I got a notification from Credit Karma stating they received a credit inquired from here and I have no idea who they are and why they are running a credit check.
- Caller: Merrick Bank
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BigA replies to Karen| 5 repliesMost likely it is Credit Karma running your credit to see it they can scam you out of some money.
- Karen replies to BigA| 4 repliesThank you. I thought it was odd since I hadn’t done anything for this bank to do a hard credit inquiry.
- BigA replies to Karen| 3 repliesCredit Karma has a bad reputation. They have been sued by the FTC several times for lack of security. They offer a "free" service that you pay for in other ways such as when they sell your information to the highest bidder. Just like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, et.al.

While those cases are old I doubt that they made very many improvements. Plus, I am sure that they sell everything they can to make money. - Wendy replies to BigA| 1 replyWow I was just coming here to say the same thing. But then all of a sudden I’m getting all these pop ups on my calendar saying my info was leaked and breached. Would that relate to credit Karma too? Cuz I was looking on there to buy a car and looking for cheap insurance and then I’m spammed like crazy thinking my emails, phone all has been hacked and has me literally scared since I don’t like giving out that info but on Credit Karma I thought would be ok to use.
- BigA replies to WendyIt costs money to put up a website. How do you think that they make that money up? You can draw your own conclusion from there.
- Wendy replies to BigAShould I report them? Now I’m afraid and thinking I need to put a hold on the Credit Bureaus with my identity. And going to have to change my email addresses. Since I have
Mobile Security on my phone been using it with no problem and then all these alerts started popping up on my phone that my number has been leaked, my personal Info is probably breached. I am really freaking out from all this. And it started right gut after I called Merrick bank on this number. Once talking to the guy he told me that I filled out a credit card in May but they were just getting around to it since they were backed up. I knew I didn’t apply there for a credit card. They pulled my credit report yesterday which sent up a red flag. I know if you apply for a credit card you know within minutes if your approved or not.
So this Representative told me I should have gotten a letter in the mail. I asked him to verify my address. He gave me my physical address but the city & zip code was to my PO Box and I used my main phone number and forgot to turn off my caller id so they couldn’t see my number and since then it’s when all these alerts came up on my phone with leaked, breached info and so forth. I think I should be calling the Attorney Generals office come Monday for Identity theft. - WendyIt’s a service my Cell provider has. I have been using it for months. It scans your phone for viruses, blocks unknown numbers sends them directly to voicemail, and so forth you can get it in the App Store; It’s called Mobile Security thru AT&T. I’ve had no issues until yesterday, where everything has popped up about my phone, emails, calendar all being leaked and breached. The strange thing about it, it’s affected my private line and my Sons number and we don’t give those out. I will be calling AT&T about this as well.
You’re very knowledgeable since I’ve seen you post in other threads. I’ve already changed my passwords on my emails. So I do value your input. Thank you 😊 - post pending moderator approval

- Anita| 2 repliesI recalled a call and voice-mail from a Mary. Saying call Merrick Bank ab9ut a credit card. I called back and it said credit dept. Said Credit Karma is where they got my info. I have frozen my credit files. Said I would get a card in 7 to 10 business days. I asked if this was a scam. She said NO. Make me wonder now.
- Caller: Merrick Bank
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BigA replies to Anita
It always slays me when people say they asked that and expected an honest answer. If your credit files are frozen then there is no way the bank could run a credit check and they surely would not depend on Credit Karma.Quote:I asked if this was a scam. - MikeHuntleton replies to Anita
I was also wondering about something, like 'how can people get scammed when all they need to do is call their bank' and now thanks to you, I can see one reason.Quote:I asked if this was a scam. She said NO. Make me wonder now.
Word of advice....never trust a caller to be who they claim and always call back from a published number. :) - Isabelle| 2 repliesI did apply for a credit card and send me and email to get back to them (and a letter but i havent opened it yet) i just got a call from this number and it said Merribank on the caller ID. They sent a link to my phone for me to send them a picture of my ID. The link looked legit but I still felt odd about it. He said the link expires in 2 days and to call back THAT/THIS number (which is different to the one posted on line for them). I still havent compared it to the email or letter. They said they needed my ID to verify they are sending the correct card to the right person.
Has anyone ever had to do that for any credit cards?- Caller: Merribank
