- David| 4 repliesFirst National Bank of Omaha - You probably applied for a credit card and they need more information.

- Kayla replies to David| 1 replyAre they fraud? I stupidly gave them information because I recently applied for a credit card and they made it seem legit that they needed more information. They told me I needed to go down to where I applied for my credit card at and fax them my social security card and id. I went to the place where I applied for my credit card at and they told me that, that was not true. Now I am freaking out that I am going to be a victim of identity theft. I keep trying to call them but it keeps say they're closed. Please let me know if you know about them because I am freaking out and I don't know what to do!
- Sue replies to DavidI just received a call from this # and they stated they identified themselves as being from First Bank. Although I did recently apply for a new credit card with "my" bank (Unionbanc), I was not comfortable verifying my personal information with them/FirstBank. And so told them so. They suggested I call back at the #800 so I could verify they were legit. I called back and the greeting was generic: "Thank you for calling Credit Services". I hung up.
- PaulGot a message on my phone, "This message is for Paul ***, this is First Bank, please call us back at 800-#." The person gave no reason for the call. As Sue had done, I recently applied for a new credit card. I called the number, they answered, "You have reached Card Services, if this is about a card you've applied for press 1, if this is about an existing account press two." There was no option to speak with customer services. Seems like a scam!
- Caller: First Bank
- LisaIt seemed legit
- Caller: First bank card
- FNBO customerThis is a legitimate call from the credit card underwriting department at the First National Bank of Omaha. They were calling to verify that I had actually applied for a card.
- Caller: First National Bank of Omaha
- CassiThey called, said they were first national bank like everyone else has said. They told me they tried sending me a credit card but it got returned and wanted to verify my address. I told them I haven't applied for a credit card in well over a year and what was this credit card for? All she said was she didn't know who the credit card was with, even though she was claiming to call from the bank it supposedly coming from, but it said great falls (the town I live in) on it and she just wanted to verify the address to send it to. I told her again that i haven't applied for a credit card in over a year and great falls is the town I live in not a credit card so who are you with? And she hung up. I've had my identity stolen 2 times when I was in my teens and didn't find out until I turned 18 appling for a secured loan to start building credit. I flagged my social as soon as I found out and I have to get a call before anything can go through using my social, which I haven't received anything about a new card so I think they were fishing, whoever they are.
- DebIt legit. I applied for a credit card yesterday and they were calling to verify some of the information...and just to be sure it was me that had applied. They called on both of the numbers I had put on the application. I did not answer either call, but voicemails were left on both phones. I called them back.

Just because somebody says this number is "legitimate" or "real" or something similar, Their statements may NOT apply to the call you received!
Yes,- The bad guys can spoof or fake what you see on your caller ID, and they can use "real" phone numbers to make you believe the call was from a legitimate organization.

Read the above again, for understanding!
- Some posters in this thread may be shills for a scammy caller

- It's not a scamThis is a legit call. I applied for an NRA credit card a few days ago online after receiving an offer in the mail. However after some research this company also does credit cards for Overstock.com and several other companies. Anyway they said there was "a flag on my account" because I had reported a credit card stolen about a year ago (true!) and they just needed to ask me some questions to confirm my identity. In multiple choice form I had to supply the answer for the color of my car, my height (they said this info was from my drivers license) and conform the name of someone out of a list of three people. I actually did not recognize any of those names but at least I knew my height, ha ha. Anyway that was it, very professional. If you recently applied for a credit card it's OK to call them back. If you did not recently apply you better lock your bank accounts down because someone may be trying to apply for cards in you name.

- MikeHuntletonKeep in mind, just because a number is legit, doesn't mean the caller is!
Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate numbers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.
If it is a legitimate call, then anyone receiving a call would know WHY they got a call from this number, right?
So what would be a reason to come and post about it to a site designed to share information about UNKNOWN callers, such as Telemarketers, Scammers and Debt Collectors?
If your call was legit, telling about it won't be any comfort to those who may get a spoofed call from some scammer! - JessupLegit call following up to make sure I applied for a First National Bank of Omaha credit card, which I did.

- SharonI received a call from this number. I was going to ignore it, but after reading everyone's comments, I researched Sheetz and found this to be their credit card company. It turns out that it was regarding my application for a Sheetz credit card.

- Leslie| 1 replyThis number was legitimate-First National Bank of Omaha. I just applied for a credit card and they needed to verify personal information. As always, if you have doubts, ask the caller for another way to contact them. If they are legitimate, they will offer another verifiable phone number by which you can reach them. If you cannot think of why they would be calling you, maybe someone applied for credit in your name and you need to think about dealing with identify theft.

Thats bad advice! What if the caller was a scammer spoofing the number and trying to phish personal info? You know a scammer will just connect you to another scammer.Quote:if you have doubts, ask the caller for another way to contact them
Never trust a caller is who they claim to be, always look on the back of your card, bank statement or official website for a valid number to call back and find out if they called. - Diane replies to SlimVery sound advice. Thank you. I will be sharing this, plus reading it more thoroughly
- BusyGuyinPTC replies to DavidI felt the call was reasonable since I had applied for a credit card just this morning and the information they asked for was not too invasive and the caller read information to me without my asking. They knew things about my credit report that I hadn't told them.
- IzzyI got the same call and called back but didn't offer them any information. I simply confirmed whatever they had on file. We had been approved for the MGM resorts card and that is what the call was regarding.

- DebbieIt is a legitimate call. I had recently applied for a credit card for Ducks Unlimited (I know! Cool sounding name!).
The credit card is a First Bank Card. They wanted to verify I had indeed applied and they wanted some generic information to confirm my identity.- Caller: First Bank
