I have received nearly twenty calls in two days from this number and they do not answer when I say "Hello". Today I held on for a few seconds longer and some fool, who I could BARELY understand said his name was "Jose" and he was calling to let me know I had been SELECTED (?!) to get Identity Protection on one of my credit cards. I told him politely that I could not understand him so he spoke louder, but not any plainer. I told him right away that I wasn't interested and he kept trying to sell it to me. I absolutely detest these calls and although I am registered on the 'DO NOT CALL' list, somehow these fools get by with it. is there anything we can do about it?

This number is HSBC <--that is the name on my caller id. Since Bank of America absorbed them recently, if you have any dealings with either bank, that is most likely the root of the call.

Here's their scam if you have any problems w/ your HSCB credit card such as a late payment, disputed charges, etc... they are probably selling your number trying to get "sucker" credit card protection buys.  In my vast and usually correct opinion hSBC is a the most disreputable credit card issuer and interest gouger...   Of couse thes idiots calling you are also probably outsourced offshore or out of country punks who will and do totally disregard the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.

This is the collection dept of hsbc. If they are calling you make your payment and it will stop. My wife and i both have cards with hsbc. We have twice gotten 2-20 calls per day from this number over a two to three year span. Both times is because we forgot to make payment.

This is not solely a collection number.  My account has a zero balance and they still called me today and left no message.  When I called back I was given a menu of options to choose from.  I chose the option that involved hanging up and ignoring them.

I have two HSBC cards also, and I do not owe them anything.  But yet they persist in calling me over and over trying to sell credit protection.  I have told them numerous times I do not want or need credit protection.  The next time I receive a Privacy Notice I will "opt out" of any contact whatsoever.  Maybe that will stop them? (yea right)

I likewise get multiple calls each week from these numbers also trying to get me to considate my credit cards etc.  I also am on the DO NOT CALL List and it is a joke.  These suckers get around it all the time.  I have a police whistle by my phone and guess what??  They get an hearfull and then I hit all the number buttons on the phone to mess their electronic system up.  So what,  they disturbed me and turn about is fair play.

This is what I have done and it has worked for me. I set my land line for 3 rings. After the third ring it picks up, I have call notes. My call note message is "Dead Silent" and it stays that way until the beep about a minute and a half later...After this person called from this 1 800-446-1022 # 3-4 times they finally stopped. I guess they figured they had some sort of business phone or computer modum who knows? But the main thing it stopped and I have not had a call from that number in months now...Hope this may help some of you guys......

they don't want you to answer they want to leave a message in "broken" offshore, outsourced engliss in hopes you'll take the bait and callback so they can tell how your credit is in jeopardy and try to sell you credit protection insurance.   DON"T be suckered by these cretins.  Unfortunately they are doing this on behalf of American "financial companies" to skirt the national DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.  Punk 'em ALL.

Usually rings twice then stops.  I don't answer 800 calls, just let it go to voicemail.  If it is a robo-call they usually disconnect when they hear the mechanical voice.

Call them back. Call them back at the same number: 1-800-446-1022. You will hear an automated voice offering you different options. When I called them, the option I wanted was option # 2. (Listen carefully as they may have changed things.) Option # 2 is suppose to remove you from their call list. The automated voice will warn you that it can take up to 30 days for this to take effect. This is automated... you will not talk to a live person.

Thank you Joey, I called, entered my phone number, and the automated system told me it may take up to 60 days (so there may be some hope).

I remember not to long ago getting a letter from my credit card company explaining how Bank of America family of services might be marketed to me.
I think it was one of those privacy type notices from my CC company.
Usually I ignore those things, but I hate Bank of America ever since they decided to offer services (ex credit cards) to illegal aliens.

So I took special care to follow the instructions to decline their "special" offers.  I'm embarrassed to say I don't recall what form the process took (snail mail, e-mail, website, phone).  The letter explained it might take some time for this decline to take effect (if it ever does).

        WK

My phone service is a voice over IP provider called ECR.
I have about 26 features ($19 per month). I think one of those features is the ability to block numbers.  I will have to explore this possibility.

I read information on phone scams that to call the option to take you off the list, does just the opposite. The automated system that is calling randomly to see who will pick up, will then when you call back actually puts your phone # or fax number into their system permanetly. So it is better to notify the FCC and put in a formal complaint. I did that on a fax junkmail and the FCC sent me a letter stating they will be investigating this company. It has definitly slowed down and almost stopped them from using up my paper and ink. I am going to try this with this 800# and another one that does the same thing. Hope this helps

I receive calls from this number every single day.  I never answer because it's almost always a telemarketer calling.  Today, I answered, just for the purpose of finding out who it was and to tell them to take me off their list.  They said they were HSBC calling regarding my credit card account and wanted to thank me for being a loyal customer.  They were offering a credit protection plan to make payments to your credit cards in the event of unemployment, death, etc.  First of all, I don't even have a credit card with HSBC.  I informed the gentleman with the VERY strong middle Eastern accent that I didn't carry balances on my credit cards and that his program would be of no benefit to me.  I informed him to take me off his list.  He kept trying to keep me on the line with reasons why I needed their plan, and I finally had to hang up on him.
