The calls are originating from MBNA Bank.

This is an activation number for Visa credit cards issued by Bank Of America.  This is an inbound number only, so it should never originate a call.

I, too, filled out an online app for Bank of America CC;

got two(2) cards in mail about tow weeks later;

attempted to activate credit card over phone @ 1-800-457-3721

(ph # listed on removable sticker on CC:  lots of run-a-round with that.

Rep asked all kinds of Q's:  Mother's maiden name, DOB, last four #'s

of SS card; also "did I know (Female name) with same last name as mine".

Put on hold more than once;  all very frustrating;  still no activation of CC.

This is not a scam. As PushF12 said, you should NEVER receive a call FROM this number. It is a credit card activation number that YOU call to activate YOUR new or replacement Bank of America credit card. When I called to activate my replacement card, I only needed to speak the last 4 digits of my card, say No to an offer to transfer a balance, and then say the last 4 digits of my SSN. My card was then activated. Very simple. No problems.
