- Rock of Life replies to goinuts| 3 repliesThanks for printing that... I got the same check in the mail, and since I had made an overpayment to Verizon, I thought they were refunding that. Problem is, the refund is for a Phone number in India, 8735008159, and well, I'm an American. I held the check to the mail and didn't see a security watermark as they mention... So I am thinking, If I try to cash that check, I am giving my bank account to whomever... I may try calling Verizon, but I would really rather hand the check to the FBI and let them find out if I've had my identity stolen. At this point, I'm not sure what to do. I've googled the crap out of the company, the address, and the phone number and have seen various results that either make it look like a different Verizon, or verizon with ties to telemarketing.
If anyone else has gotten this note, I'd love to see what you found out. Thanks for posting 'Goinuts' - Rock of Life replies to Rock of LifeOops, I meant, I held the check to the light, not "mail"... my bad.
- Klyde replies to Rock of LifeThe 873 500 8159 is not a telephone number, it was your account number from Verizon DSL before you cancelled it.
I did the research and called them since I had the same check. This is a ligit refund check.
But first, call Verizon DSL and tell them that number (8735008159) and then ask them if they sent you a refund check and how much. Also, have them verify your name. To be sure, DON'T CALL THAT NUMBER FROM YOUR REFUND CHECK -- this will prove that this check came from Verizon themselves --after you cancelled your Verizon DSL.
I guess for some reason, after we cancelled our DSL account, the auto payment didn't stop right away and charged the bank after the cancellation date.
Don't blame yourselves, with the advent of fraud around the world going on, it is worth it to be cautious. (:

- jesse| 2 repliesI also received a check from Verizon CRG for $125. I called Verizon to check whether it was for either my Fios or wireless accounts and no one could confirm that. I called the company listed at 185 Franklin Street in Boston and the person also could not find me or the account number in her system. That office handles Verizon brokerage and retirement accounts. I called Wells Fargo and the banker could not help over the phone. I took it to my bank and the teller told me the account number and routing number are valid, but suggested I just cash it at a Wells Fargo branch so that there would be no record of my account number on the check image. I did just that.
- Caller: Verizon CRG
- Auntie replies to jesseJesse, what happened as a result of this? I just got a check from Verizon CRG and I wasn't expecting a refund. I don't think I was ever with Verizon. Once you cashed your check and got the money, did anything ever happen? Thanks.
- KC Maryland replies to Rock of LifeI just received a similar check. It did not feel right from the start. I think its a scam.
- Lv replies to jesseDo you make a copy of the check?
