I got a call from this 800-503-1969.  I checked with the customer service number on the back of the card they were calling about and they told me the call was due to the account being past due.  They explained to me the status of the account and said I didn't need to call the number.  I called it anyways to see what they would say.  Turns out it was an automated system that told me due to the account status, the credit limit had been reduced.  It never asked for an account number or any other info.  I called them from the number they called me at, it asked for the zip code as shown on the account for security and the 6 digit 'pin' and it told me the account status, that it was past due and that due to the accounts payment history and status over the last 6 months that the credit limit was lowered.

Citibank handles other companies' credit card accounts such as Macy's and AT&T.  So if you got a call and you have another card that might fit the call, always check with the customer service number on the back of your card before you call a number like this back.  In my case, it turned out fine and was legit but it is better to be safe than sorry.

According to customer service this is a legitimate phone # for CitiFinancial however it is never a good idea to give account #'s or Social Security #'s via the phone.  Call the Customer Care at 1-800-922-6235 and address the issue there.  They removed my # from there system with only a few minutes wait.

Received call to call 1-800-503-1969 and use the 6 digit code they provided, or I may not be able to use the Citibank credit card. I immediately looked up the phone number online due to so many fraudulent
schemes nowadays. I also immediately notified Citibank to ensure they had the phone number and information to contact their security department.

Citi is reducing the credit limit on a card, essentially saying the current balance is the new limit.  They base this on the number of cards and available balances.

Left a voice mail claiming to be calling from CitiCards-left a PIN number to use when returning the call - said it was important to call back regarding a past due amount - it sounded fishy to me so I didn't call back

Same as above, got a call went online to check my account.  My credit limit has been lowered significantly, so the automated call was to inform me of that, so I wouldn't go charge over my new lower limit.
