Caller ID says Toll Free Call

Caller (a live person).  Selling home warranty services.  Won't say her company name.  

i got a dead line call from them. i did some searching and found that the number is owned by Hms National Inc. unless a scammer is spoofing this number just call up the number since it is supposedly there switch board number and ask for support, complaint, or legal department and let them know that a possible scammer might be spoofing there number if they don't show a record of your call if the do let them know that the person that called you refused to tell you the name of the company they where representing

claimed to be Cross Country Home Services.  Selling leads. We are in a small industry so we all know each other.  this company calls up and says they have lots of leads for us.  if we are slow and our competitors are slow why would anyone call THEM?  I don't believe they have anything to offer.  Plus, we NEVER pay for leads as that cost just gets passed on to the consumer.

Crazy... who the hell would answer an 800 number?  lol telemarketer.

They are a home warranty company. Consumers that have a home warranty with them (either purchased or came with the purchase of the home) will call them before calling a plumber/electrician/HVAC company etc... to see if their problem is covered in their warranty. I run a small plumbing company and we have done a few jobs for Cross Country, but they don't like to pay decent rates and  the jobs they call us for are too far out of the area. Also, we NEVER paid for those jobs!

It rang so fast (like half a ring) and hung up.

AUG 6, 2018: It is the Home Maintenance/Warranty company. Shoes as Cross Country in the caller ID.  This is the main number that shows when they dial me to confirm an appointment with a repair person. They sometimes call from other numbers depending on the nature of the call, an escalation, problem etc.

This is a legitimate call from Total Protect/Cross Country Warranty, regarding a recent claim we had placed.  They were calling to follow up on the service.

They sell leads for jobs so the customer gets charged more from a plumber than if they just called a plumber themselves - just like Angie's List and Home Advisor on a smaller level who claim to be free to the consumer.  They take forever to pay if they do and then they charge a commission for the lead so the customer ends up paying for the free service in the end just like all warranty companies.  Nothing is ever free
