I got the same call, about "my existing mortgage" from "my senior underwriter"... so I called my credit union first since that's the only mortgage I have. They have NO affiliation with any outside underwriters, and didn't envoke the call.

I called the number, got a recording that was just as ambiguous as the voice mail, still not idenitifying who they were... eventually spoke James, the company name is Meridian Loan Services and he attempted to explain that my credit unio wouldn't be aware of the wholesale offerings, since they are the retail side.. Credit union denies any affiliation at all with this company, wholesale-retail is not a valid point.

This seems to be just another annnoying telemarketing plan to try to get people to refinance, when I stated I was on the National Do Not Call, they hung up.

Not sure if anything they are doing is illegal, but the message left stating that they are my existing underwriter and existing mortgage is completely false, so I would never do any type of business with them.

I received the same call and exactly the same message word for word. 800-540-1533 is the caller ID number and also their fax line. Sounds like it is a scam.

It sounds like everyone is getting this call.  I too am on the Do Not Call list.

I received the exact same call from 1-800-540-1288 in my voicemail from a woman's voice named Linda to call "my underwriter" James back at 1-800-540-1288 at x1722 to get a 30 year fixed at 5.875 and that I must call back in 3 days as this will be the only notice.

These people are extremely deceptive con artists with an unfair advantage of manipulative sales skills.  I totally can't appreciate someone pretending to be part of my current service providers when they actually have no relationship at all.  They are just trying to con us into a big loan transaction which would lead to huge commissions for them.

All of my phone numbers are current on the National Do Not Call registry.

Equifax and/or Experian data services sold them my information after my "real" loan officer legitimately pulled my credit report about 3 weeks ago to process a loan that I requested.

This legitimate credit inquiry triggered Equifax and/or Experian to provide my personal data to their business subscribers and caused an avalance of unsolicited calls from presumtive lenders assuming they could steal the loan opportunity from my trusted loan officer.

I heard there is a way to ask each of the credit reporting agencies not to sell our information if we ask them to maintain our privacy.  I will seek to do this ASAP, as it is worth the inconvenience to deal with this now than to keep losing time on unsolicted calls from deceptive con artists who are either ignoring or found a loop-hole to the National Do Not Call registry.

Linda also left me a voice mail message advising me that she was my senior underwriter and that she had been authorized to lower my mortgage interest rate on my existing mortage to 5.875%.  However I only had 3 business days to reply and that I should contact James at 1-800-540-1288 ext: 1722.  I did attempt to call the number but never got an answer after waiting approximately 15 minutes in the queue.  The message on the recorder gave no indication as to what company Linda & James worked for; only that they there were underwriters.  This made me suspicious and led me to search the internet on the 800#.  After finding this site, I am so glad I did.  I find it very odd, that everyone is getting contacted by the same individual (Linda) and being asked to speak with James.  Additionally, I find it very odd that they are offering the exact same interest rate to everyone they call.  I think this is a scam and would highly recommend being very cautious if you receive a call from Linda or James.

My number is registered with the National and State do not call list.  This is the 2nd call I received deceiving me into thinking they are with my mortgage company.  I noted online that this is the same call many other people are getting even though they are also on the dnc list.  I am a realtor, I know that if I call someone on the list, I can get fined $11,000 for each instance......I want these people fined!

I can qualify based on my payment history for a lower interest rate on my mortgage.  The woman identified herself as Linda, the senior underwriter and asked me to call james at the number above x 1722.  I want this comany charged for calling my number on the do not call list.  They say they are with the Equity Division

Actually, the call I got was FROM 1-800-540-1533.  The 1288 number is the one they asked me to call.  Just an FYI for everyone...

I went to the FTC DNC registry website and filed a complaint.

I received the same call from a blocked number on 05/24/2007.
At first I thought that it was my mortgage company until I played back the message. I then noticed that no company name was mentioned. The alleged underwriter "Linda" left instructions to call 1-800-540-1288 ext.1722.  I looked up the number and found this page. I am also on the do not call registry so I intend to report them.

I got the same call today, June 11. And since I have 3 mortgages, I ended calling because I figured it was one of the three companies I do business with. While I was on hold (by the way, the voice of the automated answering woman had a foreign accent) I googled the phone number, found this site, and hung up.

Linda and James are both jerks.

I received the same message from "Linda" on our answering machine...funny enough, I knew it was fake because our mortgage was paid off in 2000!  We too are on the Do Not Call Registry, so I have reported a complaint with them as well.

Same message.  And our number is on the National Don Not Call Registry.  I'm going to report them.  The more people do it, the better.  Hopefully this scam is stopped soon.

Exactly as above - I tracked down the 800 number and determined that it was Meridian.  When I initially called them, I was suspicious because they did not identify themselves.   I was also suspicious when they had my interest rate wrong - Companies such as this need to be put out-of-business.

Same as everyone else.  Linda says she is senior underwriter and I should call James at 1-800-540-1288.  As a former regulator I recognized it as a possible scam.  I googled the number and found this site.
