Mr. Phelps. Who ever this is. Ignore the call!

This individual, Mr.Phelps, is calling several times a week.  On the one occasion I returned the call; essentially to demand they stop calling, no one answered.  I smell a scam...or a bill collector.  Regardless, as others have noted I suggest all ignore the call.

Note:  The reverse 800 directory offers no help in identifying this Mr. Phelps.  One can only conclude doing so might result in complaints filed that might penalize him for his annoying intrusions.

i have received calls several times a week for *months* now on my work phone, all requesting that i call a "mr phelps" at this number.  there is never a live person on the line, just an automated voice (sometimes male, sometimes female).  i think it is a scam and have never returned the call.

i seriously doubt this is a collection agency as the law firm i work for would not be dodging any bills...

I get the same thing also, except the 'recording' starts playing before my voicemail 'beep' actually goes off, so I only here the last part where the number is repeated by a male voice.  Very annoying.

Mr. Phelps? That's the name of the main character from the 1960's TV spy-thriller show, "Mission Impossible"!

He had my name (where'd he get it? The Web, just like the spammers do?) Name of the firm was "Credit Management" or "Professional Credit Agency". Google searches of both names turned up nothing. IIRC, for-real bill collectors must contact you in writing.

Smells to me like a scamster who doesn't know what federal do-not-call lists are for.

This is a scam perpetrated by the CMI credit group.  Their physical office is at midway and International in Plano TX show up there and protest, or whatever vengeance you feel necessary.

This company is calling me over a bill from charter communications, I have never had any service through that company EVER.

I have been receiving calls from this number on and off for several months. There are periods of time where this number does not call. However, the one today was from a Mr. Goff (or something like that). I called it back but received not answer.

I actually had a live person claimed to be CMI calling for a dead person today. Apparently they don't have a call id system to identify the incoming number.

I thought there was a way to block incoming numbers on your cell phone. Anybody??
I just got that call again, on a Sat morning, and I let it go to voice mail, again, and that recording, again, which says that by continuing to listen I am acknowledging that I am "(it gives my correct name)", and directs me to call Mr Phelps, whose infamous name does not escape me either. Please understand people, that it is SO EASY to harvest information these days, and once they have sufficient contact info, they can attach it to any kind of demand for payment. Back in the '80's some tech manual publisher sent me a book I never asked for, then followed up with a bill, which I ignored. They then sent me a collection letter. When I called and threatened them with a lawsuit, they called it off. I thought that was rough, but it was sanguine compared to today, where you can never get to to complain to anyone. Many of us, particularly those with well worn credit cards, are so conditioned to pay when asked that we often get duped. Jackie Gleason, "The Great One" borrowed from so many people on his rise to stardom that old cronies would constantly approach him, demanding "That deuce I lent ya" and he would always comply without question. He is quoted as saying "Be nice to the folks ya meet on the way up... cuz yer gonna meet 'em again on the way down!"

I called  this number back because I got so sick of getting calls. I live in michigan and they were calling from 6am-10 or 11 at night 7 days a week. This is a contract company for Time Warner cable or so they said. I was 2 weeks late on my bill because I moved and lost it in the move. They said they were trying to collect money. I just told them I couldn't make the payment today but I would pay it online thru TIME WARNER themselves and asked if they could stop calling (per legal advice I recieve) Once you make contact with them and they keep calling you can take them to court. But as long as they don't make contact with you they can call as much as they want. Also the lady gave me a website www.cmipaymentsonline.com I haven't yet went to it to see what it was about. Maybe this will help some of you!

We have received these calls 24/7.  We have ignored them, but they are getting out of hand.  I refuse to call back as some calls may be charged to our bill, even though they are 1-800 numbers.  I also get calls from the same people w/our local number and other out of area numbers.  I would not take the chance of going to their website for fear it may damage my computer.  It is a total scam to get personal information and our e-mail address.  We owe no one any money.  We are debt free, retired and they are breaking the law for calling when we are on the National No-Call List.  Too chicken to answer their phones or send letters.  Hard to ignore the calls, but safer to do so.

I too recieved this call every day or so, for months. When I finally called back, I found out that this is beyond a shadow of a doubt a COLLECTION AGENCEY. They were trying to collect on bills I didn't even know I had from an ER trip years ago.
