- AmandaI received a letter in the mail, with a hand addressed address to me, and no return address, after moving into my new home. Inside was a blue sheet of paper that said: "WATER UPDATE! Unfortunately we were unable to reach you by phone or in person. Please contact us within 72 hours. Office Hours 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday (800) 574-6127"
Since I had been trying to contact the water company anyway, I assumed this was a legitimate letter, though I wondered about the 800 number, when I knew my local water company had a local area code. On the next business day, I looked up the water company's number on their website, called them, and the very first recording I heard was that their hours began at 8 a.m. so I *then* became suspicious of the letter I had received. I will not be calling this number. - LarryI just got the same thing... the envelope was hand written and there was no return address... very suspicious, i to have just move into a new home. I think if it was legitimately the water company they would clearly mark it with their name, and it probably wouldnt be hand written...
- A JI received this notice in the mail also! I was told that these people get information on new residents from the city & County offices (the buy the info). They are Puronics of Orlando and they will want to come out, test the water and then they usually leave info on their systems and a restaurant gift card. Did you also get a post card in the mail from a Mr Gray (grey?). Same type of thing. They just want the opportunity to come in, test your water and eventually sell you something. It's how they chose to market their services. I will NOT however, be allowing them into MY home (as I think it's sort of shady the way they buy your info and send misleading notices in the mail)!!
- meGot the same blue letter and immediately thought it was the water company, but since the letter had no letterhead or no company name of who sent it, I got suspicious and searched the number online. I'm glad I did. This kind of advertisement to their company should be illegal. Makes me angry.
- Don't call!What a crock! Don't call them.
- Im glad i didnt call!!I became suspicious when it said water update wtih no letter head from the water company. AT the very bottom in small writing it said "Not afflicated with any public or private utility company". I researched the number and found out that it is nothing but junk mail.
- same blue cardI got the same blue card placed in my mailbox, the problem with that is we have about 30 boxes together & they're not marked with our name or street!!! Not to mention we have well water!!! This type of advertising should be illegal, they're walking on our property & putting their ad in our mailbox!
- DuufaI just got this weird card, too, different phone number though. Guy on the line wouldn't tell me who it was, but that he was a call-center person for a "non profit" ...yeah right...
# listed was 866-258-8257. - kayalwinI just received the same blue postcard yesterday in the mail. I also just bought a house and since I live in an apartment and have to give them notice, I am not actually at the property and am using this time to paint and clean the new place. I was freaked for the first few minutes when I got the mail, but then read the tiny note on the bottom of the card that said 'not affiliated with any public or provate utility company'. In the body of the message, was a memo about an important water update and to call between 9-5 Monday thru Friday. Today is Sunday, so I called. It's junk. The recording said 'Thank you for calling AquaMonster, all our lines are busy. Please leave your name and number and one of out customer service representatives will call you back as soon as possible.' Yeah Right!!!
I'n not throwing the maiing away. I am going to put the date on it and write to the company advising them that they have 30 days to remove me from any mailing or phone list. If I get another call or mailing after 30 days, I will be contacting a lawyer. I'll spend the few extra cents to send it return mail receipt as suggested by the following websites and attempt to stop all the junk mail and calls I am getting.
