I've been getting these calls pretty much twice a day for about a week. The voice says they have a very important matter to discuss with me and to press 1 to be connected to an operator. Anyway since they don't address "me" personally I don't answer and have not called back. I am also on the do not call list. Isn't this a violation of that? How long will the jerks keep trying? The origin # is different than the call back #.

Does anyone know of anything that can be done now to stop these people from calling? I have read all the above stories and they are doing the same thing to me. I have a new number and they have some how gotten it and call me on my cell as well as at work everyday. I called and listed my number as do not call but that doesn't sound like that eve stops them. Anyone know what to do to make them stop calling???

Unfortunately, debt collectors are exempt from federal Do Not Call regulations. But you can still stop their calls by sending LERS a letter directing them to cease all communication with you and warning them that you'll pursue legal sanctions in federal court if they fail to comply. Be sure to send the letter via certified U.S. Mail with a return receipt request. If they contact you more than once after receiving your letter, then you can lower the boom on them in federal court and seek damages for each violation. This is their address and other contact information:

When you get a New Number and they "somehow" get a hold of it,
It simply MUST BE the Telephone Company Selling it to them!
No one else has it, it has to be the phone company.
Unless the Operators tell or sell them the number,
or they get the operator to connect the call for them.

another possibility is the auto dialer dialing every possible
number combination, until it gets your number.

I also received messages from Michael Cunningham at my home starting on Friday the 14th, and then the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  I received the same automated message many people have discribed.  "I have something important to discuss with you...  this is not a sales call..." etc etc.  I was not inclined to return the call for such a vague, impersonal answering machine message, however I finally got tired of the harrassment.  When I got home from work on Wednesday to find the fourth message, I finally decided to return the call.  I did not even bother to identify myself to the woman on the other end, I simply asked her why I was receiving the calls, and what does the obnoxious automated man want.  She said, "Um, I believe he needs to speak to 'Carrie'."  My name is not Carrie.  There is no Carrie at my phone number.  I DO NOT OWE THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY.  I was harrassed for four days by collection calls meant for someone ELSE.  I have had my current home phone number for five years now, so I think this company needs to do a better job of verifying the contact information that their lendees give them.  Although I guess I really can't blame 'Carrie' for giving a false number, I sure didn't enjoy being harrassed by Michael Cunningham.

Upon researching this agency a little further (including some of the very helpful posts found here) I now think that my situation was probably even more obnoxious than I first thought.  I now fully believe that this agency was on a "fishing expedition" for victims, and may have simply pulled my number out of any public listing.  My telephone listing has the first initial "C", without a full name, and the woman on the other end of the phone probably just took a wild guess what it stood for.  This is probably why they use an automatic dialer, it means less man-hours wasted chasing after random people like me who don't owe a penny of debt.  The calls have stopped, but I will remain on full alert towards this unethical agency.

Michael Cunningham of Leading Edge Recovery Solutions, LLC, a debt collection agency, Caller ID# 1-800-608-5423, (attempting to harass me at my place of employment, apparently in order to skip trace a third party whom he incorrectly may believe that I know the whereabouts of), left a recorded message on the voice mail server of an Intensive Care Unit of a major hospital on Friday, 5/9/2008 stating that it was an "URGENT" call from Michael Cunningham of Leading Edge Recovery Solutions, LLC, 5440 N Cumberland Ave, Suite 300, Chicago, IL 60656-1490, phone 800-663-4707, FAX 773-380-8802.  If you have been harassed by Michael Cunningham of Leading Edge Recovery Solutions, LLC, feel free to e-mail me at cohenlevine-harassed@yahoo.com and I may be able to refer you to a highly effective consumer protection attorney I know of, who is expertly trained in these matters.

Has anyone noticed the huge increase of "Toll Free" 800, 877, 866, 888 -or- area code and then "unknown caller" calls - all from unwanted telemarketers offering misc. incl. Allstate, vultures offering loans, attorney groups offering assistance with "bankruptcy", etc. etc.  Ever since almost all of us registered on the "Do Not Call Registry" - they have found a way to BUY our phone numbers from services we once used and had an existing business relationship with and now they can slither their way around the do not call registry and "legally" call us.  Leave it to the telemarketing companies to come up with a way to beat the system which once threatened their existence as they are now once again thriving and legally pestering us at all times - and YES, again mostly at dinner time!!!

I simply called them told them I was Michael Cunningham with the legal department and needed to speak to the IT Department.  I was transfered to a floor supervisor who was very helpful in giving me all this information.  LOL  Enjoy. P.S. Internally they refer to the 800 number as the "debtors line"

Just called them at 773-380-8800  Don't ask for that extension, simply ask for the IT department.  There are some very nervous IT Guys now that this number is released.  You can also leave a message when they get nervous and won't answer.  I simply asked to have my number removed immediately.

A couple months a go my uncle passed away.  His life insurance didn't quite cover the funeral expenses.  His checking account balance didn't even cover the current bills.  There were no other significant assets.

Somehow "Michael Cunningham" got the mistaken impression that I'm responsible for my deceased uncle's credit card debt.  They won't stop calling.

What are you guys doing to stop him from leaving messages.

I received the same standard message claiming the guy was "Michael Cunningham."

I know exactly who they were asking for, as many people keep calling for a Stephanie Jenkinson who apparently owes a bunch of money. Either that, or there's a huge scam in the works to keep harassing people who aren't even affiliated with this "Stephanie."

It was confirmed earlier in this posting that "Michael Cunningham" does not exist and is just a name to get people to call. My conversation went something like this:

Person: Hello, *mumbles something, probably the company name really fast*
Me: Hello, I had received a call from this number, and I'm calling back.
Person: We're looking for Stephanie Jenkinson.
Me: Ah, I am not Stephanie Jenkinson and do not know her. I get calls for her all the time as this is a cellphone and something must've got mixed up with her old house phone when I got this phone.
(Here's the good part)
Person: Okay, I'LL INFORM MR. CUNNINGHAM of the situation and remove the number from our system. *hangs up*

Inform Mr. Cunningham? Well, he's not real. So how are you suppose to "inform Mr. Cunningham?"
