its funny cuz these people have to work there... its a payday loan shop off the books.....they tried to collect on a check n go acct i had previously paid.....except they wanted 3xs what i actually took....no to mention when i called check n go i followed the chain of title and i paid the right place. SCAM!!!! not to mention the M.Robert Madia II, Esq that they put on the letters they send out is a entertainment attorny....look him up in linkedin.....hes a chairman of the board of robby records....he trains people to be a DJ!!!! tooo funny!!! no to mention anyone can make a website....so as far as i can see they break the FDCPA multiple times.....misrepresenting themselves, not saying the mini maranda when they call, sending texts, threating legal action, and harrassing people by calling all day long! i borrowed $312 they sent me a letter (on my request) asking for over $1,800 they couldnt tell me when i openned it and when it charged off....they couldnt give me 1/2 the info i asked for.....Oh and the original acct number they give out is bull....Check N Go had no idea what i was talking about....they dont use account numbers like "national Check Registry" gives out. I also love how they are in buffalo NY!!! that explains why the woman who called me spoke ebonics!!! No offence but if ur trying to pass off as a "attorny firm" i suggest u leave you ghetto talk at the door! Oh and you know they are debt collectors because at the bottom of the letter they say "this is an attempt to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose" (that is the mini maranda that they are supost to say to you at the beginning of each call as per the FDCPA)! Oh people please dont fall for their lies.... infact do yourself a favor and ask these "attorneys" for their bar # if they are infact attornies! Or how about a federal ID # that shows they are a true company not just some shop that opened up one day to change there name the next? good luck and know that if they are calling for a check n go case....call check n go and ask who has the chain of title, cuz it isnt them!!!

The link above is where I have listed their physical addresses for mailing cease and desist letters as well as requesting validation of the debt....also a few interesting tidbits about their sister/mother company American Mutual Holdings, Inc.

Please look up and read the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and decide for yourself if these people are operatng illegally or not...And remember that once a "law office" tries to collect a debt they are under the guidance of the FDCPA as a Collector....

    Anisha Fox
Hello......my name is Anisha Fox and I work at National Check Registry.  Let me tell you a little about myself.....

I call people and tell them they are committing check fraud.  I tell them they have charges filed in the court of their county and city.  I tell them U.S. Marshall's are coming to serve them.  And if you ask me for any documention regarding these "charges" I will hang up on you. I think that I sound really official.  I'm really smart and I know the law.  I would make a great attorney.

I will also tell people that I have filed an "active restraint" in their county.  I will call your employer, family members and whoever knows you and tell them you have fraud charges filed against you.  I will tell you that papers have been sent to your employer for payroll deductions.   I will also tell you that I've talked to your employer to discuss how bad an employee you are. Give me your bank account number or credit card and your debt will go away and I will drop charges.  I will also tell you that I've checked your credit report and am filing charges so this will show up on it too.

I will tell you anything to scare you, harrass you and intimidate you to get you to pay up.  Oh I know this debt either doesn't really exist, was already paid off, and is the wrong amount (gotta make a little extra).  I don't care about your problems or your feelings.  I am a souless, uncaring, cold-hearted person and have no conscience whatsoever.  I'm just looking to get that commission.

Once I've got your really scared and worried that law enforcement officials will be showing up at your door or that I've convinced you that papers have been filed in court or you've received the official looking court papers in the mail or email, is when I get my most enjoyment.  Nothing makes me happier.

Of course none of what I do to scare you is true.  Nothing has been filed against you and law enforcement is not going to show up at your door.  But it makes you pay me and I love it.

I feel really good about what I do.  Scaring people and breaking the law and the laws of the FDCPA is what I do best.  I always wanted to be a scammer.  It was my dream as a little girl.  I have no life or moral compass.  When God passed out brains, I was out that day.  I can't get a legitimate job because no one will hire me because of my shady past with other employers.  No one will ever catch me or the company I work for.  All I have to do is change the company name and my phone numbers and address.  So you can definately bet on me calling you again.  And the cease and desist letters you send?  Don't make me laugh.

If you ever want to chat, just give me a call.  I can be reached at 800-680-7414 or 518-621-5827 (or 5820, 5821, 5822, 5823, 5824, 5825, 5826).  Have a great day!

    Truth
BUFFALO—Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced a settlement with Joseph Bella, the operator of several debt collection companies in the Buffalo area, for illegally collecting on payday loans, violating the privacy of consumers by soliciting their personal information through employers, and sending letters that purported to be from an attorney in order to collect. Bella will pay $165,000 in restitution and penalties and be ordered to substantially change his business practices.

“Across the state, we’ve worked aggressively to ensure that debt collectors who exploit desperate consumers and break the law pay a price for their behavior. In this case, we’re pleased that consumers who paid on payday loans will receive full restitution and that Bella will receive heavy penalties,” said Attorney General Schneiderman. “With this action and many others, my office will continue to fight to protect New Yorkers from illegal business practices and stop companies that seek to prey upon consumers facing tough economic times."

Since November 2008, Joseph Bella has operated various debt collection companies in the Buffalo area, including Check Systems, LLC; Interchex Systems, LLC; Goldberg Maxwell, LLC; Mullins & Kane, LLC; Morgan Jackson, LLC, and National Check Registry, LLC, that the Attorney General found had repeatedly violated the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Bella operated several of these companies on a one-at-a-time basis for very short periods, usually for less than six months. Then, he would shut the companies down and began operations under a new name.

Bella’s debt collection companies routinely sent Verification of Employment forms to the employers of consumers. Federal law, however, strictly prohibits debt collectors from communicating with employers except to obtain location information about the employee. Bella’s debt collection companies illegally sought information about consumers, including their consumer's Social Security numbers, hourly wages, dates of hire, and information on whether their consumer's wages were being garnished. The form improperly implied that the Bella debt collection companies would garnish the wages of consumers even though they had never obtained judgments against the consumers and, therefore, had no authority to do so.

Bella’s debt collection companies also routinely violated the law by sending letters to consumers under the name of an attorney, M. Robert Madia. Madia, however, did not have any direct personal involvement in the sending of the letters; had not reviewed the consumers' files before the letters were sent; had not determined that the letters should be sent, and did not know the identities of the consumers to whom the letters had been sent. Indeed, despite the fact that Bella terminated Madia in November 2012, as late as February 2013, one of his companies continued to send letters to consumers from Faith Galloway, Legal Assistant, that, according to the letters, were copied to the terminated Madia.

Finally, Bella’s companies collected on, or attempted to collect on, payday loans from New York State residents. Payday loans are a type of short-term borrowing in which an individual borrows a small amount at a very high rate of interest, often 450 percent or more. These loans are also called cash advance loans or check advance loans. Payday loans are illegal in New York State.

This matter was handled by Assistant Attorneys General James Morrissey and Michael Russo, and Senior Consumer Frauds Representative Karen Davis, under the supervision of Martin J. Mack, Executive Deputy Attorney General for Regional Affairs.
