Okay weird call this morning. A man called me and I was still half asleep.  He said he was calling regarding a car accident I got into earlier this year (which is true).  He said that the bill is $1413 and he needs to know if Im willing to cooperate for not.  I said I was.  Weird thing is, the bill is $700 last I checked.  True, I havent paid it but I havent got the money due to school and being recently unemployed. Also he wanted to verify my current address (which I just moved into less than a mos ago--no one knows this address), my phone number (which is a new cell# that only friends have), and knew that I was unemployed (I just quit my job last week!). He went on to say that i needed to call him withing 72 hours with a checking acct. number.  I told him I dont have one and he started harassing me saying I should ask my friends or my family, but he needs to have at least $50 by then or they would put out a warrant for my arrest!  F***ing ridiculous!  But it gets weirder: when I asked for an address to mail payment he said I couldnt do that because it takes a month to process it and blabbed on about how it "takes a week to pass this department", and so on.  The conversation finally ended with him telling me his name, which was "Mr. Hopper"!!!, and his phone:1-800-727-5848 ext. 3048.  After googling it, I came upon this interesting forum.

yes, i'm sort of scared that this number is not from a real collecton agency from the county of Fairfield, I don't mind paying my bills, but if this is a fraud I would like to know.  I'm hoping that this is a legitimate company and that if I pay it will clear my ticket. Please does anyone know if this number is real????

Hey, same thing just happened to me about a good, 10 mins ago. Well the person wasn't really trying to reach me, they where trying to reach my sister. I was thinking it had something to do with the ticket that she got from about four years ago. I was thinking it seemed kinda fishy about the whole thing, so I went and checked out the number online before telling my sister about it. Then thats when I found this lil forum like blog thing. The person who did call she said her name was Ms. Mosley, or something like that. But see, the person who was with the real collection agency that my sister was going through/the county her name was Ms. Gamboa, or something like that. From what I can see/tell, I am thinking that this is another of those fraud things, that has to deal with car type things...

This is definitely a fraud scam...why would a court or DMV not send any notice by mail regarding a citation??? These people have been calling for months now. Everytime I see the number 626-962-1074 Operation Div on the caller ID I ignore it and let it go to the answering machine. They never leave a mesg. so i know its not important. This time I answered the phone and a lady "Ms. Waul" stated I had a citation back in 1998 and owed the court $623. I told them I never received any type of notice in the mail and to send me a copy of the citation. She said she could not do that. I asked her the reason for the citation and she could not explain. She said that if I didnt pay that my license would be suspended or a warrant would be out for my arrest. She told me to call her back tomorrow before 2pm to get this resolved. I hung up the phone and called the number she gave 800-727-5848 x3576 and spoke to a different person Mr. Diaz who did not know anything about the ticket and was unable to obtain any type of documentation to send to me. He said I could pay $300 now and the rest later. I asked how I could resolve this...They just needed my bank info over the phone. I told them I would mail it to them and he did not want to give me the address. I definitely believe this is a scam...do not give your drivers license or any type of information about yourself when they ask.

called my house today 3 times in 30 minutes, asking for Jeffrey.  The first two times I told them wrong number. (no Jeffrey lives here)  The third time, I told the dumb lady I was Jeffrey.  She stated the call would be recorded and then asked to verify my address.  She stated an address that was not mine and I said OK.  She then said she was from dish network and I (Jeffrey) was behind $156.00 and wanted to make arrangements to pay it.  At that point I told her I was not Jeffrey and this was the third call in thirty minutes.  I then told her I was a Dish customer, but that now I would be cancelling.  She quickly said good bye and hung up.

My wife got this call also. I have to deal with spam and fraud at my work and my wife is quite savvy in this regard also she sensed that the call was funny immediately. She got the call back number which happened to be 1-800-727-5848 and the person introduced herself as Erica Beremen.

    So be aware.

I received a v/m from a lady asking me to call this number back asap with an extension. I call back to see what is going on after looking the number up on here. When I called they had no person with that extension or name(which btw sounded like suspescious ...thought that was funny) they asked for my dl# which I explained I wasn't going to give out or my name/number and that they had contacted me. Finally after back and forth I gave them the number and he stated I owed a courthouse money from 2006. I moved away from that area and have had no dealings with their courthouse since 2003 probably. He gave me a case number to contact the court to discuss. Other then them not knowing what they are doing no one was rude or harasssed me for payment now or any time soon!

Automated messsage stated that I must call 1-800-727-5848, then gave a list of times to call on each day of the week. Since I have no debts past due or outstanding, nor do I have any outstanding tickets, I will not call them back.  Presume that it must have been an input error when some person typed in the phone number?

    Annoyed!
This 'collection' agency has been calling me for about a year now.  The first time they called me was to ask if I wanted to pay off the balance of a ticket I made a payment on.  What had been an $80 ticket over 7 years ago is now over $600!!  They even said, "would you like to make another payment, we showed you have already paid $80".  Exuse me??  I have asked them to send me documentation, but they flat out refuse.  Then they threaten to turn me in to have my licence suspended.  I know for a fact that if you have an upaid ticket that the state will automatically red flag you at the DMV and suspend your licence until it's paid.  If my licence hasn't been suspended since this ticket was issued, I'd say it's safe to assume the state isn't worried about me.

^^^ Smarter than this guy ^^^ replies to collector
That sure says it all, doesn't it.  Look at "collector's" spelling and grammar abilities.  His shift key is obviously broken as well.  Debt collectors are really low, if not the lowest, on the employment totem pool.  If they had any skills, any skills at all, they would be working in that other field, not collections.

The truth is, collection peons don't seem to care whether you are the person with the unpaid debt or not.  Even people like me, who don't have any outstanding debts, are harassed by these rats.  For years, they have told me that my name is that of some other gentleman and that I do owe them money.  It is obvious that they are not paid to find truth, or there are many who go against the wishes of their employer.

Unfortunately, it seems that if you do answer one of their calls, to defend yourself, you ultimately have set yourself up to be harassed at an even greater degree.  No doubt that the future holds more phone features like mine, in which I can add harassing phone numbers to a blacklist and said numbers never ring my phone but instead use up as much time as it can trying to keep the rat in "eternal hold."  Hopefully it saves at least one person from receiving a call from the rat.

I had the same 6 calls to my cell in less than 30 mins, I picked up, nobody there, one time they asked me by actual name, then I responded, who wants to know, and they hung up. I called the number back and it was out of service, then less than 10 seconds later I get a call from that number and it hung up on me, this is strange, and very uncomfortable, especially when they know your full name.....GRRR...

    bearer of bad news
I hate to inform you all, but this is the real deal.  You owe money to the Walnut Creek collections agency.  I work for a legal aid firm and had to contact them today to help a client set-up a payment plan to get a hold on her license removed.  You should probably pay or the amount is just going to continue to increase until they decided to place some other legal sanction on you.  My apologies if this ruins your day.

They are collection agency that charge up 30 to 40% of your bill don't use them, go to where you have the payment and make arragment.  I had a traffic ticket and they drop it to 30% of what this company said I needed to pay. What a d f they are. Stand for your rights.
