I received a mesage from a Lisa Roberts saying I hadn't registered to get a lower rate on my electric bill and call her back at 1-800-735-0934. She said to make sure I had my last bill with me when I called. I don't know if this is legitimate or not. This number doesn't appear on any of my statements. Please help!

They are trying to slam and cram you into higher rate. Your best bet is to see if your community and the surrounding areas have an electrical aggregation. That's where, if you sign up for it, they buy power as a large group therefore getting a cheaper rate. You can check with your local electric company and your state PUC (Public Utilities Commission). The PUC should have a comparison chart as well (mine is called Apples to Apples) where you can compare electrical rates as well as natural gas rates. My advice is never sign up for a rate plan over the phone (as often times they lie about who they are-sometimes pretending to be your utility) or with a door to door solicitor. Always do your homework first. Also do not call them back as *67 does not work on toll free numbers like 800.

No it is not.  It is an attempt to get you sign up for their services, but who knows what they might end up charging you.  If they were legitimate, they would already know what you were paying for electric.  There is no "registration" to get a lower rate.  You shop around if your state allows it, they don't call you.  Just like when you go out shopping, you chose who you will buy from and how much you will pay.

It's a scam to get you to change your energy company. I'm so mad right  now I could scream! Do NOT agree to anything on the phone. Look into the company first!!!

Got the same voicemail from "Wendy Powell" with a reference number and a request to call back. They are telemarketers from "Power Choice." They will know your electric carrier by where you live, and they tell you they've been helping lower your rates for the past three years ... Total scam.

Got the same message from Wendy Powell on my answering machine today. I was skeptical because the message did not state a specific service provider and that I should have my bill handy when I call back. Glad I searched the phone number online before I called.

I received a voice-mail message from "Carol Walsh" who stated she's calling to decrease the rate on my electric bill & to call back and make sure I have my bill available so she can show me where the reduction will be.  WHAT A BUNCH OF BS!!!!!

Ms. Wilkins called me at lunch time and left a phone number to call back-  1-800-735-0934.  She said this was concerning my electric bill. Sounding like there was something wrong. She left a reference number.  I then checked my electric bill- not a phone number close to it for my company.  THEN I checked here.  I wish I could set something up with police to get rid of these people.  Last year I actually had 2 of them at my door and they almost had my husband and were halfway thru my door when I stopped them.  They were very rude and the man did NOT have an ID tag with a pic.  Be VERY careful people!

Yes, they can call you if you allow your current electric company to share your information. I do get offers from electric suppliers. I have allowed it.

I have received multiple calls over the past 2 weeks from various callers. The last one was from Dorothy Chapman. Same deal, call them back, make sure you have the reference number and my electric bill. ALWAYS suspicious of anyone calling me about any accounts. Did not call but did decide to look up the number and found this information. Thanks
