This is the Chase Bank Credit Card fraud department. It is a completely legitimate call. If you receive a call form this number simply answer it and they will tell you the details. Otherwise they leave a message asking you to call them back.
this is a fake number i think. I think this is a fraud itself. dont reply to this e-mail this ius total bs. I am going to war dial this number until they beg for mercy. security it professionals unite!!!! I called chase and asked for fraud department! this is so much a lie!!!! dont be fooled!!!!
Contrary to what this post says, this is not a fake number or a setup for fraud itself. It really is the Chase Bank Credit Card Fraud Dept. They will most likely call you only if they have a question about whether or not a charge on your account is legitimate.
i checked my check card balance to find there was a debit for 600.88 on my account that was not by me if you could look in to this please. marty mondragon
I tried to place an order on the internet with roix, something is wrong, I tried to place the order 3 times, the last time a window came up to say internet had to close, but my credit card # was on the order form. Could someone from your dept call me to let me know there are NO ORDERS with roxio, and there shouldn't be ANY ORDERS with anybody else. Please call me at my work #. the phone service is out for me to make any outside calls. somebody cut a cable. My # is (517) 265-5171. Thank You Richard
I received a message to call this number in reference to a fraud question about a convenience check I had written that they wanted to verify. Well, since I had not written a check, I went online to get the fraud number, which was not the same as this one by the way, called it, gave my info and they looked into my account, did not find anything reference a convenience check and did not have any notations in my account about them calling me at all. The cs rep said not to return a call to a number, but to use the number on the back of your card (just in case) and then see what the problem may be. Whether this was a valid number or not, instead of risking it with a number you are not SURE of, you should probably just call the number on the back of your card when contacting the company. They can redirect you to the correct department!
Same thing for me. I called the number on the back of my card instead and Chase told me they hadn't contacted me and that there was no activity on my account.
I had a really awful day when I got a message referring to this number as Chase Bank's Fraud Operations Department. I phoned Chase Bank at the 800 number listed on the website (not the number in the voice message) and they verified it IS FOR REAL but they got their customer's number wrong and left me the message by mistake. I do not have an account with Chase and they quickly removed my phone number from the related account. Fruad Alert's post above is misleading. Do not give out your info to parties you can't verify and don't tell people it's a scam without checking it out. Someone who ignores an authentic fraud countermeasure could be hurt... that's why I bothered to post.
What happened to George also happened to me. I called the main Chase number and they transferred me to the Security department. After I told them about the "Fraud Operations Department" message, they looked into it, and said that they needed to update the phone number on that particular account, and that it did not belong to me (and that no one had opened an account in my name fraudulently). Thanks George for mentioning this experience you had!
This was a legit call for me, I have to admit I didnt want to answer the first time but they did leave a message and it was to question a charge, so I picked up after the 2nd call from this number
I just received a call from this number. It was Chase verifying a very large purchase I made yesterday on my credit card. I was sort of expecting Chase to call and verify a $12,000 charge on my card. It was all automated. A computer bot asked me simply to press 1 if I authorized the charge or to press 2 if I didn't authorize the charge. I pressed 1 and that was it. It was a 10 second call and I didn't have to talk to anyone.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO...I JUST DID THE SAME THING...,AND GOT THE SAME CALL. I CALLED CHASE DIRECTLY AND SPOKE TO THE FRAUD DEPT...AND CHASE PATCHED ME THROUGH TO THE FRAUD OPERATIONS...THEY COULD NOT CONFIRM THE NUMBER ...BUT, CONFIRMED THEY DID CALL...THIS IS AN AUTOMATED CALL BACK NUMBER ,AND YOU WON'T BE PATCHED INTO A LIVE OPERATOR UNLESS YOU NEGATE THE CHARGE...
I just got a similar call from this number. I told them how do i know they are not just trying to phish for information. I called the number on the back of my card and asked for the fraud dept. They said it was not their number and it was a phishing call. So I'm confused as to why several other people say it was a legit call.
The number is legit and you can confirm this by calling 800-945-2000 and ask for the fraud department. However like someone mentioned earlier they had called the wrong number. To be safe during the orignal call I pressed 2 to deny the charges so I'm sure someone who made a $14,645 transaction wasn't happy.
I received the recording telling me to call this number also. Called Chase and it turned out I reported this number to them back in August as well.
Calling the number gets to a recording asking you to enter your account number 3 times, and then forwards you on to the actual Chase Fraud department. A very sophisticated phishing scheme, since once they get you to enter your account number it automatically transfers you to Chase so that you may think it was valid after all.
Verified through both the standard Chase number on the back of the card, and with the person that I got transferred to after putting in 3 fake numbers that the 766-4908 phone number is NOT one of Chase's phone numbers.
To report this number as fraudulent, fax the phone number information to 888-643-9628 or email it to abuse@chase.com.
The only thing that bothers me is that they have a record of me reporting it back in August, but have not done anything to shut down the phone number.
800 766-4908 was a legitimate automated anti-fraud verification for me on a convenience check I wrote on my Chase account. After entering my account number the service responded with the amount of the check and date correctly, and asked me to confirm that it was legitimate.
caller from this number identified herself as being from Chase Bank Credit Card Fraud Dept. I called back, but since we have no Chase card, I did not enter any numbers. I just waited for a CSR to come on the line. She told me someone opened an account using my phone number on the application and that she would remove my number from the account.
