- Steve| 1 replyNot a scam. they are a company hired by Credit Card companies to handle longstanding debts that are not being paid. They buy the debt from the credit card companies and collect for themselves. I dealt with them personally when I hadn't paid off my CIBC credit card for nearly 3 years. The provided me a settlement offer which was approx. 40% of the actual debt I owed and it helped me clear my debt and regain my credit score. Again, this is not a scam. If they are calling you, it's likely because you owe someone money of some kind. Take this seriously as the next step is a knock on the door fro the Sheriff's office with a rite in hand.

- jimmyif your credit is that far gone where you have an outstanding debt of 3 to 5 years, and the collection agencies are calling you, its probably better to borrow 300 to 500 bucks and just declare bankrupcy in court and clear all the outstanding debts all at once depending on how much you owe. Your credit will be shot for 6 years anyways if you havent paid your debts in that long, so make sure you get the right advise.
- gordyjust ask the agent for his agents license number, if he is licensed agent in ontario he has to give it to you to verify who he says he is.
- WalterThey may be calling legitimately or not. it depends, companies like this and global credit have dubious reputations as scam artists for a reason. Just look up the cases where they were fined in calgary alberta for calling up people who owed nothing, but they used pressure tactics and harrasement to make them pay to get em off their backs because they threaten them with court and ruining their credit.
Just google it, they called people who owed nothing, harrased them and made them pay. Then government got involved because of complaints and fined the companies because they were calling people who didnt owe anything and they were either doing it purposely or as they say not checking their records and verifying, and harrased people and coerced them into paying debts they didnt owe, to line their coffers in ill gained profits.
Smart thing is get a lawyer if you are in deeply in debt, if its alot and will be a hardship to make payments, just find 500 dollars and declare bankrupcy, You get peace of mind and they cant bother you anymore if you are unable to pay. And you can start rebuilding credit after 6 years. Banks and creditors still get paid if you declare bankrupcy, they have insurance. Most likely after 2-3 years they already wrote it off on insurance and got paid and trying to get anything extra from you anyway. If you cant pay just declare bankrupcy, its why its there, and its not expensive. Its not like you are going to be able to get a mortgage or a loan if the credit agencies calling you anyways, so easiest thing to do is press reset and get a fresh start and peace of mind.
Majority of people dont pay because they dont have the money. And if you deeply in debt, best thing to do is declare bankrupcy. Less stress, and better for your health long term. - Blue-BsodThough they claim they are from Gate company willing to lower my interest rates, they didn't know anything else about me or for that fact if I had a Visa, MC or Amex. If they did buy the info from my bank, they would of know what type of card I had and other details about me. My bank does not and will never give out / sell such information because they are more than happy with continued charging me interests and associated fees per month regardless of my balance.
