It's a scam. They ask for your account number, but of course there's no actual org so you don't have one. They tell you can enter your social security number instead so I've been giving bogus social security numbers, those of people who are dead mostly, trying to mess with them.

They claim to be ACS, which handles education loans.  If you took out a loan with a different lender, it's possible that they sold the loan to ACS or they have ACS service the loan.

I'm not convinced it IS ACS though.

It is ACS Eduction Services, a service provider for student loans.  If you're getting a call from them, it's probably because you're past due on a student loan or you're a reference on a student loan.

    It's not a scam.

It is a scam. My student loans are fine, but I keep getting calls from this number saying that I have past due student loans and asking for my social security number. DO NOT TAKE CALLS FROM THEM AND PLEASE REPORT THEM AS A SCAM AGENCY!!!

I got a call from them today, they left a message says that my college records needed to be updated and for me to call them back.  What records?  and why did they not identify themselves?  Weird!

Just had an incoming call from this number, answered but they disconnected the call without saying anything.  Very odd.

I just got a call from them, they claim to be ACS.  Although I do have loans through ACS, I was suspicious because it didn't sound like the automated system I remembered them having.  Like the above poster my loans are current, and there is no cause for a call.  I logged into my account and everything shows as A-OK.

If you you are concerned, the direct number to ACS is 800.835.4611, call them at this number and ask if there is an issue with your account.
DO NOT call back the 784-5309 number.
Certainly DO NOT provide your social security number to that number.

Bizarre message.  They ask for your account number (which, shame on ACS, i actually my SS number.   You cannot talk to anyone.  All they want is your account number or SS number.

Could be a scam or just ACS doing stupid stuff.

I got the call this morning....thought it was a local number cuz our area code is 808...hit redial then hung up when I saw the 800.  I have an account with ACS also, my account is delinquent due to them not processing the fact I am stilll in school!  I called the number off their website.  However, I asked the rep while on the phone if that is indeed their number and they said they had no knowledge of that number.  Lucky for me this happened or I would have had credit issues!!

It's from ACS and it is most definitely not a scam. If they are calling you it's because you owe money on your loans...simple as that. It will be a voice recording giving your name. If it's not your name then no worries you are in the free and clear. It's not that big of a deal for those claiming it's a scam. They want to retrieve money to pay back the loans. That's all.

This is definitely a scam. I NEVER went to college. Because if you pick up there is NOT a person on the line. If you call back, you still don't get a person (unless you have an account number or give them your social security number).

I have just received this telephone call. They claimed they were from ACS, but I am always in touch with ACS and they never make this type of calls. They call and talk to you or they just leave a regular message. And, why would they ask for the SSN. This is defenitely scam.

If ACS calls they usually call in person, this number leaves a record message or if you answer you get to listen to music for 10 minutes......?  Then if you call it back you can't get a hold of any one or you have to put ss # in,,,,,no way is that happening.
