- AlfalfaActually it STILL is illegal....IF you have informed a debt collector your employer does not allow these calls:
805. Communication in connection with debt collection [15 USC 1692c]
(a) COMMUNICATION WITH THE CONSUMER GENERALLY. Without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, a debt collector may not communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt --
(3) at the consumer's place of employment if the debt collector knows or has reason to know that the consumer's employer prohibits the consumer from receiving such communication.

The best way to do this is IN writing, VIA certified mail with return receipt requested. If they continue calling after you have proof that they received your request, they can face fines of up to $1,000.00 per violation, in addition to any civil damages if their continued calling costs you your job. - jazzyMy first call came from NCO Financial regarding someone WHO ONLY HAS THE SAME LAST NAME I HAVE!!!! (I never heard of this person!!) Now they have apparently passed MY CONTACT INFO TO YET ANOTHER SCAMMIMG COMPANY, so I have gotten contacts FROM TWO MORE OF THESE SCUMBAGS!!! - holly replies to BobPer the fdcpa they CAN call you at work until you tell them not to. If you don't tell them not to call you at work they will cont. to but you HAVE to verbally tell them they can't call your work number. How about you check the facts first.
- Melissa replies to WinterHey you should really read up on the laws before saying it's not legal to do something. They can call you at work till you tell them verbally not to.

- Maverick JusticeI can't speak for everyone but I am fed up with the barrage of unsolicited, anonymous phone calls by Unsolicited Solicitors, alleged "Debt Collectors" etc.who intrude on our privacy. Several years ago the Assistant Attorney General for Oklahoma informed me that many debt collectors are disbarred attorneys and/or convicted felons. How would you feel about these types invading your privacy in a quest to collect money on an unethical debt that was facilitated via blatant fraud and deceit.
A very honest and responsible but peaceful and non confrontational long time acquaintance and overly trusting victim of a blatant corporate fraud which the Federal Trade Commission and several State Attorneys General took --, and are still taking action on has been suffering such perpetual "debt
collector" phone call harassment for several years. The white collar fraud Corporaton which the
Federal Trade Commission took action against is GMAC and the white collar fraud Corporation
which several state Attorneys General have --, and are taking action against is Capitial One.
The latest "Bounty Hunting" harasser is NCO Financial systems from 1-800-807-7809. But the victim in this case is just one of millions of other honest, law abiding victims of blatant white collar fraud and decit and Disbarred Lawyer and convicted felon "debt collectors" etc.
These Bounty Hunters ignore the facts of the fraud and continue their phone call harassment. So I think it's time for fed up consumers and victims of white collar fraud and deceit and their bounty hunting debt collectors to "give them a dose of their own medicine" by bombarding them with unsolicited "hang up"
calls --, "on their dime" --, from "all points of the compass.
First I suggest that we NEVER answer a call in which the caller has blocked their identity and/or their number.
Next I suggest that we collect a "chain of the phone numbers" of uninvited phone solicitors and "debt collectors" (usually toll free numbers) and "sow those numbers to the four winds" so fed up victims of unsolicited calls can "pick a number and deluge the CALLERS" with "unsolicited and/or hang up calls.
That strategy would also probably also have an "added plus". In order to discourage US from anonymously calling THEM on THEIR dime via toll free numbers -,they would be forced to get "toll charge incurring numbers" --, which would "nibble away at their profit margin and their incentive
to harass us in perpetuity. If they do that we could also "add to their administrative and operational
headaches" by "calling collect".
Following is the first "Debt Collector" number on that list which I hope explodes into a long list of Solicitor and/or Debt Collector phone numbers for millions of fed up Americans to call until our antagonists "scream Uncle"! I invite you to add phone numbers of other Solicitors and/or Debt Collectors to the chain and forward that list to your contacts and invite them to "call any number at random and then simply hang up after the recipient has completed their "canned advisory" etc. Or simply say "I'm sorry, I dialed the wrong number".
A few million "hang up calls" to these jerks from fed up victims will take up their time, frustrate them and be far more effective than writing to our Congressmen or filing a complaint with the state Attorneys General. Most debt collectors are in fact "illegitimate enterprises" operated by shysters.
