A caller identifying himself as Michael Johnson of the IRS repeatedly called my land line this morning with "important matters related to a legal action." I told him that I knew he was a fraudster and told him to stop harassing me, but he called again.
The man had a noticeable Indian accent and there was background noise indicative of a call center.
This individual appears to be targeting people with more foreign sounding names. When asked repeatedly, he did give a call back number (703 xxx-xxxx) but when I called that number from a different line, the number he gave appeared to belong to a legitimate and unrelated business in Northern VA which this clown was probably trying to deflect complaints to.

He just called me saying he had a warrent for my arrest (I answered my moms phone as I am house sitting for a couple of days and I highly doubt my mom has a warrent for an arrest she is a 74 year old woman who had a stroke). He had the wrong address from a different state across the country, didnt have my name (it's my moms phone and its unlisted). He tried to get my credit card information and name. He told me I was lying and tried to argue with me when I told him the number he called was a member of do not call. gov and that his call was illegal. He refused to give me the company name.

A call came to my land phone number from 800-810-5127 on Friday, 02-21-2014. I was at work.  My wife answered the phone and the caller identified himself as Mark Down (or Mark Brown) from IRS, investigating a case against me. The caller gave a call back number 917-387-1867. My wife notified me and I called him back the above 917 area code phone number several times. It went to the voicemail of "Mark Brown, Senior investigative officer of IRS". Yes, he had an accent too.

I believe that this is a scam because:

    1. I am a legitimate tax payer.
    2. If IRS wants to contact an individual, they normally send a notice via mail.
    3. An IRS officer need not give a private number to call back.

    Scammers come in different forms.....

    4. The call-back number (1-917-387-1867) they gave you is a Magic Jack number.  (1-917-387-1867 YMax Communications Corp. Landline in New York City, NY)

The *real* Internal Revenue Service does not use Magic Jack numbers.
