Daniel is right. Google is offering companies with owner verified Google local listings a sponsored ad on the local/maps section of Google.  Its to help draw attention to your listing. I was told right now it is only available in San Jose CA and Houston TX.  I did it today and it takes 5 minutes before it shows.  It is legit.

Got message from person at google.   I think the above is right.  What is the cost of the ad yo purchased?

Yeah it's Google marketing their new service to highlight you local listing. It's pretty cheap and the cost varies by area.

they're legit...pilot program rolled out in 9 U.S. cities pertaining to local search. Great opportunity if they call you!

It's a scam. Do not call them back. They call you because you are already listed in top 10 and they want you to pay them. They actually say that it's Google calling in regards to some changes to your local listings.

Not a scam. Has nothing to do with position of place listing. I work in program. Simple marketing opportunity on google and we are Google reps

NOT a scam... search on Los Angeles Limousine and my site comes up number one in LOCAL but...
phone numbers, logos and reviews are from another company. I added Google Tags to get some eyes on the error and sure enough I am now working with REAL Google reps from the 800-838-7969 number.

I think this is a scam.  We have had the "TAG" on Google for free for a long time.  Have never had to pay for it.  I think it's a rip off.  Buyer Beware.

First off let me start off by Informing everyone what a Google Tag is...A tag is a yellow visual cue that is place next to your "Pin Place Marker" (The red balloon like marker that appears on Google Maps). A Google Tag is not THE RED PLACE MARKER!

Google is not out to scam anyone. This is a very legit service and one that is only offered to Business owners with a verified business listing.

If you feel that we are a scam than go ahead and call Yext and pay $99 a month for a TAG that appears on websites that we all know, no one uses! It is all about common sense and we all know that 89% of all internet activity is done on Google. Just read the reviews from business owners or go watch the Youtube video on Google Tags.

We got a call from this number from someone saying he was calling for Google and asked to speak with the person who handles all of our business listings.  We do not have any business listings.  Zero!

Ok, let's be clear about what this is. First, it is legit. Second, they do not work for Google. They are representatives for Google, so they do work for Google, but not AT Google. They get paid BY Google when they sell these services FOR Google.  So they technically can say they work for Google, even though the truth is that they don't actually work FOR Google.  

BUT, again, it is legitimate and the service is legitimate and what they offer is legitimate. This is not a scam. The service is for an upgraded listing with your business listing. If you signed your business up for a business listing at Google Places, claimed your business address through your Google account, etc., you will be on this call list. This has nothing to do with any paid service via Adwords or any Google advertising. If you claimed your business address via any one of many Google avenues, you might get called from these folks.  And it's not a scam.

What you get is a extra highlight feature for your listing that helps your business listing stand out a little more than your competitors (unless they're doing it also). It's $25 per month and it's a pretty good deal considering the potential to stand out more in those business listings.

But that's what you need to know. It's legit. Not a scam. If you don't want it, don't call them back. They'll just go on to your competitor and get them to do it. ; )

You are wrong sir it is in fact Google and they are calling owner verified listing that may want to become marketing partners with Google.It is up to you to participate or not very low pressure it's Google and they are offering a product called Google Boost. With $100 in free local advertising to try the product. No contract no commitment. I know because I am one of the people that may call.

It is obvious you don't know what you are talking about although you are on the right track. The minimum amount is $50 not $25 you are talking about a product that is called a Google Tag that is no longer a product that we offer the Tag was canceled in April 2011. We are now promoting a product called Google Boost and it is a new way to advertise on Google and a way to compete with your competition in your area. This is for local advertisers and has a limited reach.

BUYER BEWARE:  This phone number belongs to a telemarketing company.They do claim they are  Google and they are NOT. They are just selling Adwords Express (Google Boost). Just another telemarketing company. Please know Google will NEVER EVER EVER EVER call you and try to sell you anything directly. So they might represent themselves as Google but they are not Google.

Any kind of telemarketing is from bottom feeders! Studies have proven that telemarketing and cold calling is a waste of time and is totally ineffective. It may have worked in the 50's and 60's, but not today. So I don't know why a company like Google would soil their name using telemarketers!

You Sir are wrong the Google Reps do call companies all the time if you where ever a company that has used Adwords and/ or Adwords Express then you have nothing to worry about. There may be several numbers that may show up on your caller ID box when the call is placed as I am sure that Google has more than one phone number.If someone calls and leaves a message all you have to do is call back to validate the caller. The F.T.C. states that you can not miss represent a product or company. If a call is placed and you don't trust the caller all you have to say is "take me off your call list" You should never get an argument from a legitimate company. You shouldn't say that a company is a scam by assumption unless you have proof or in fact have been scammed by the company. In all cases if you get a call from this number these are Marketing Rep's for Google CASE CLOSED.

And the desperate scammers have found this site. Maybe they figured out how to google it LOL!
