- Racer| 4 repliesWe have been getting many calls from Linda Ashcroft looking for our son with the same message about something very important and to press 9. Our Son hasn't lived with us for years. We were getting as many as 3 calls a day and now it has tapered off to about 3-4 calls a week. Out of curiosity I did press 9 one time and was put on hold and nobody ever did pick up so I hung up.

- bill| 51 repliesthis is series of calls has just started for my place. I am on the national do not call list - www.donotcall.gov - where after you are registered for the home phone numbers to stop the telemarketers you can lodge complaints against them at the same sight.
I have done this for several 800 numbers that are telemarketers.
to anyone interested, you can also call the state district attorneys office of the state you live in, and find out how to file a formal state level complaint with them.
Also go to www.whitepages.com and use the telephone back tracking option near the top of the page to see which company is calling. - hate lindai love how they call us and they have the nerve to put us on hold. what crappy company is doing this?
- BE ON YOUR GUARD| 7 repliesDON'T TALK TO THESE SCAM ARTISTS! They will not and cannot clear up your credit report, they'll just take your money and re-sell the debt to the next sleazy collector. They will threaten all kinds of legal action, but without debt verification, which they never possess, this is highly unlikely. Include all the debts they're trying to collect on that are barred from legal collection by state statute, and the violations of FDCPA and FCRA that they themselves are piling up with their empty threats and legal posing, and you'll realize why the only lawyers these people ever meet are the ones defending them when they're sued. This outfit is beyond scum - take a look at this from the Bud Hibbs website:
"ONE OF AMERICA'S WORST COLLECTION AGENCIES!!!
******** CONSUMER ABUSE ALERT **********
NCO Group to Pay Largest FCRA Civil Penalty to Date
"One of the nation’s largest debt-collection firms will pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by reporting inaccurate information about consumer accounts to credit bureaus. The civil penalty against Pennsylvania-based NCO Group, Inc. is the largest civil penalty ever obtained in a FCRA case.
"According to the FTC’s complaint, defendants NCO Group, Inc.; NCO Financial Systems, Inc.; and NCO Portfolio Management, Inc. violated Section 623(a)(5) of the FCRA. The law specifies that any entity that reports information to credit bureaus about a delinquent consumer account that has been placed for collection or written off must report the actual month and year the account first became delinquent. In turn, this date is used by the credit bureaus to measure the maximum seven-year reporting period the FCRA mandates. The provision helps ensure that outdated debts – debts that are beyond this seven-year reporting period – do not appear on a consumer’s credit report. Violations of this provision of the FCRA are subject to civil penalties of $2,500 per violation.
"The FTC charges that NCO reported accounts using later-than-actual delinquency dates. Reporting later-than-actual dates may cause negative information to remain in a consumer’s credit file beyond the seven-year reporting period permitted by the FCRA for most information. When this occurs, consumers’ credit scores may be lowered, possibly resulting in their rejection for credit or their having to pay a higher interest rate.
"NCO is so bad, that in 2003, they have been sued 40 times for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). These suits are usually filed when consumers are abused in violation of state and federal debt collection laws.
"NCO is a money-mill, gobbling up competitors, buying portfolios of old debts for pennies, and expanding globally. These money-beggars are making their bottom-line profits at the expense and abuse of consumers.
"One wonders how many lawsuits are NOT being filed because consumers do not know their rights or that NCO CAN be held accountable for their illegal debt collection practices.
"Apparently, NCO is not spending enough time and money to properly train their debt collectors in accordance with law, the FDCPA. Do they hire any derelict that may be in-between court and treatment dates simply to harass, abuse, and oppress consumers? There is no mention of drug testing at their web site, so can you be hired at NCO if one has bad habits and a need for fast-cash. This must be a 'dream-job' for anyone with a prison record, drug habit, or any con artist out to defraud some fast money off unsuspecting consumers. Are you aware of the personal consumer information these money beggars have access to? I shudder to think how much information is being illegally used at agencies such as NCO. You should be VERY nervous about the type of individuals who have this unprecedented and open access to ALL of your personal information.
"It's just a matter of time until collectors start calling with accents from countries like India, Pakistan and....(ooohhh my gawd!!)
"NCO's CEO, Michael J. (kinky) Barrist seems to be astonishing Wall Street (NASDAQ:NCPM) with his financial wizardry. He certainly appears to be pumping up the bottom line. (One lawsuit at a time?) In my experience, this type of greed and consumer abuse will catch up with NCO, just as it did with Commercial Financial Systems (CFS) and Outsourcing Solutions Inc (OSI). Both operations were out of control just prior to their filing for bankruptcy protection. CFS's top brass is facing federal criminal charges in highly anticipated court proceedings scheduled for later this year.
"If you are receiving abuse from NCO, contact me for referral to a local consumer law professional in your area. NCO, with $800+million in revenues last year, has more money than a South American drug cartel, so use the law to make them pay when they violate the laws and your consumer rights.
"Do not let NCO's under-trained, uneducated and FDCPA lacking debt-collectors make a paycheck at your expense.
Big agencies pay big salaries to their ego-driven brass. NCO should spend a lot more time training their collectors and dealing with consumer complaints, in this case BIGGER does NOT mean BETTER! (Except for Kinky and his top brass team of money beggars)."
REPEAT: TALKING TO THESE THIEVES ONLY ENCOURAGES THEM. Ignore their calls, send a cease-and-desist letter, and if necessary, contact NACA for additional assistance. NEVER GIVE THEM BANKING OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. No matter how bad things are, dealing with these jerks will only make it worse. Don't be intimidated: it's what they want. Best of luck to all.- Caller: NCO Financial

- tssWe get a call about 8pm every night from this number. I never answer but it gets really annoying. Thank God for caller ID!!
- Tired of these callsThis is a zombie debt collector. They call you regarding debts that are either too old to collect, or debts that are not legitimate in the first place. Since they are a collection agency, the "do not call registry" won't help. There is one thing you can do. You must tell this caller straight out to stop calling you. If it continues, you send a cease and desist letter, certified. After that, if they keep calling, they have violated the Fair Debt Collections Act and they can be fined. They are a very sleazy company - do not pay them any money.

Dear {insert name of collector or company},
I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.
This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:
(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state)
Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:
because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA;
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.
I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.
Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

- MikeMy answering machine recorded several calls, from a very agitated sounding woman. When I anwered the call one day, she told me I owed them a specific amount of money, but could not tell me who the original creditor was or ANY other information about the account, other than I owed them money. I asked her to send the information in writing. She replied that she did not have that information and if she did, what good would it do?

- Tron| 2 repliesGot this call twice. Internet research shows it's ANOTHER collection agency. I have perfect credit and never had bad debts. They're all looking for the guy who previously had my number 2 years ago. Have had about 2 dozen agencies call over two years thinking a phone number is attached to one person for life. They don't stop calling even if you tell them they have the wrong number. I don't even answer the phone for these idiots anymore and I won't change my number to start all over again with some other debtor I don't know. I now just block their number with Selective Call Rejection offered by my phone company. You call twice..You're blocked.
Note: This phone number is not NCO as described in an above comment. I know because NCO is blocked from my phone(918-665-8200). Not sticking up for NCO, but the comment was in the wrong location.
This number is NCC(Northeast Credit & Collections), a division of Commonwealth Financial Systems, Inc. www.necredit.com. It seems from what I've read on the internet, they are just as bad as NCO.- Caller: 800 service

- T2Got a call from these people, pressed 9 was put on hold and it was finally answered by someone who told me I owed a debt from a company I've never had an account with. Then supposedly to verify it wasn't my debt they asked for my date of birth and the last 4 of my social security number, which I absolutely refused to supply. Besides the fact that he wouldn't tell me how much the debt was, said they didn't have to send me anything in writing to dispute, etc. etc. Then a so called manager came on the line and started yelling at me about how I had to provide the info so they could prove it wasn't me, blah, blah, blah. When I told him not to raise his voice to me he actually yelled at me not to tell him what to do. At that point I hung up on him. Before I hung up on him he did manage to blurt out that he had the legal right to call me at least once a week until I provided the information he wanted.

- apayneI was on my computer at the time they called, so immediately "googled" the phone number that came up on caller ID, and this was the first site that came up. I'm very glad I did that! I let the call go to voicemail... it was a computer-generated message that even stated my former married name, which I haven't had for YEARS!

- Matt| 1 replyI have got a call from a Paul Kelley twice, while at work, saying I owe 5/3 $500. I did indeed owe them money, over 2 years ago. Calls me at work, and then says if I don't call back he'll call me at home. He wants my debit card info to settle this matter, My senses tell me I shouldn't give this guy my card number...
- LeighSome one left a message on my cell saying they were from NCC and to call back
- txechoI have no idea who this is but they do call several times a week. I have never spoken with a live person. I just wish collectively we could do something to stop this phone harassment.
