    We called back, announcement was "card services" and asked for account number... managed to bypass that without entering a number and talked to a phone REP claiming to represent HSBC (Credit Card number) about being over limit.

    seems legit, but you should call back to the number on your statement before giving them things like names, SSN (yes the machine asked, but we didn't give it) and account numbers, not to a number from your caller ID.
