Keep getting calls to my residence for two weeks. The caller calls leaving no messages on my voice mail. I finally answered. A guy calling from Capital One was looking for Rich. I told him he has a wrong number. He hung up. Today my caller id is showing this number called again.
I keep getting calls from this 800-955-6600, I have told them that the person that they are looking for is not at this number, here it is 8 months later, and they are still calling me 4 to 5 times a day. How can I get this to stop!
This is information for anyone who is getting these kind of calls. It doesn't matter if your finacial world had the bottom dropped out (such as mine has). Life is life and whether it be a loss of job, loss of income or the weather has put a damper in your income...no one has the right to call you with these kinds of calls. Do as I did... go to the nearest store (Wal-mart, K-mart, local fishing store) and buy a little pocket size air horn... Don't get frustrated when you see this number or any other creditor that is calling. Tell them politely once the reason why your late and that as soon as possible you will make up the payment (s) and you don't really want to file "B" (the word they all don't want to hear) and that you will no longer take their harrassing phone calls. Then after that and your phone rings; answer it, say hello to make sure you get a real human being on the other end... and blow that great little invention right into the phone... Believe me most of these places (Capitol One, Credit One, etc) hires these companies that have only about 10 employees or it is somene working from their home...they will stop calling... NO ONE SHOULD MAKE OUR LIVES MISSERABLE, life does that all on it's own ~
I got this call and was able to verify it belongs to Capital One Credit card company. It is for their account specialist department, inquiring about payment information for past due or over limit balances on your account. An airhorn won't due you much good other than getting you assault charges for ruining someone's hearing. If you are having problems, contact them and they will help you work things out. Doing what you say will cause them to cancel your account and proceed with collections, they can and will help if you let them know your situation.
visa capitol one,,all credit people LIE!! HELP whats that THEY LIE!! NO way can a person try to work with these callers...Talk about being HARASSED!!!!
I've been receiving these calls on my cell past couple of days, though have been ignoring them. I picked up today, it was Capital One asking if I'd like to make a payment on my late balance over the phone. All I had to do was confirm the charge to my bank information they had on hand. I did not have to provide any information, account, SSN, checking number, etc. They just confirmed my last 4 and billing address. Like other posters have said, you only receive these calls if you are late. If you are late, make the payment or TALK to them about your situation and they will try to help you. They would rather work with someone trying to stay current and in good standing, than someone who just ignores them.
I have been getting these phone calls every month for approximately 7 months now. While I do have a credit card through Capital One, I am NEVER late with my payment. I will receive my statement, then approximately 4-6 days later, I am getting the phone calls. This is a good two weeks before my bill is even due. I am NOT over my limit and want the harrassment to stop. I have tried to answer the call to let them know this has got to be some sort of mistake, but there is never a human on the other end of the phone. Just a recording to tell me to wait, which I do, some times up to 20 minutes before I have to disconnect.
Folks, I work for a company where we have to collect debts from people. We can not call during certain times of the day or on certain days of the week. What this company is doing is against the law. It is harassment, and none of us have to take it. Especially if you do not have an account through this company, or if you are not late with your payments or over your limit. My suggestion for every one is to contact the Better Business Bureau or contact an attorney to have a cease and desist order filed against them.
If you happen to live in a shared residence, what gives anyone the right to call at all hours of the day and hang up? One recent morning shows this number calling EVERY 10-30 minutes after 8am till about 11 or so. I live with other people that admittedly haven't been timely with their bills but have a perfect paying history myself. I finally got so tired of these people calling I answered it myself only to get hung up on, and then again, and again. I just counted the number of times our residence has been called in the last week and it is 11 times. They have not ever left ONE message and there is an answering machine on the line. This is ABSOLUTELY harassment on every level and apparently lots of people are putting up with it. If this continues, I plan to contact the attorney general, the FCC, the better business bureau and anyone else I can think of to put a stop to it. Thanks for letting me know who this is. Just because a creditor happens to smugly think they are in the right as a company to badger and harass people doesn't mean there isn't any collateral effect. Fortunately, my co-residents informed of the reasons for the harassment (not that this excuses it at all) so I know what to expect since I am near the phone more than they are.
They called my phone...I don't even have an account with them. Simple solution...just don't pick up the phone for a number you're not familiar with. Do a reverse phone number look up online if you're curious as to who is calling.
"Like other posters have said, you only receive these calls if you are late."
Not true. Many people, myself included, who don't owe anything to anyone get harassed by these calls. In my case they are looking for the guy who had the phone number before me. Doesn't matter how many times I tell them the person they are looking for is not at the number, they keep calling. They should all be flogged.
Never ever give out Your Social Security Number !!!! If You answer it...Ask for Everything in writing- BUT don't give Your address They should already have it! Then say don't call me anymore this is harrassment click!
Ask for everything in writing? What is the monthly statement you get that you didnt/couldn't pay, hince the call. And they ask for your address because people move and do not update with the credit cards..do you think when someone is late on their bill that they call in to change their address? I agree to use caution when giving out your social, but when you have more than one account, companies ask for it in the beginning of the call to see all accounts, but if someone is calling you, they have that info already up on the screen, so verifying the last 4 is ok. Saying this is harrassment then click means nothing. Credit card companies have to protect their investment with you, and statements aren't working, so next step is calls. If you treat the representative with respect you should receive the same..which I know isn't always the case being they hear the same stories all day, but for the most part they will help you and work with you. Just hanging up on them puts you down for more calls tomorrow, then the next call comes through for the rep.
I have quite repectfully asked Capital One to stop calling me dozens of times because they have the wrong number and yet they keep right on calling. I am assured I will not receive anymore calls and it goes quiet for a week, then boom! They start calling from a new phone number!!! To hell with respect, they aren't even harassing one of their customers and they have none!!
I've had similar experiences at my office regarding a Verizon phone bank constantly calling asking us to switch our service back. They always want to talk to 'who ever is in charge of making the phone decisions' and I tell them my boss isn't in. We were getting these calls daily. My boss said to tell them that he authorized me to tell them 'no interested'. I actually had one of the reps tell me that they A) had to talk to him directly.. which I promptly told them that wasn't happening and B) when I told him we wanted to be removed from their telemarketing, they said it would be difficult as they have numerous call centers that don't 'talk' to each other and I'd have to tell each one every time they called to remove the number. What a joke!
You make a good point People should google the number first and when they see it is cap 1 jerkoffs they shoudn't even pick up the call then they will have to do skip trace and hope they can find you before 180 days because then they have to charge off your account and sell it to a collection agency for $0.03 on the dollar of course most people don't know the collection agency can't legaly do anything but call them if they go to court they have no contract and most likely no assignment agreement if you ask the court to see these things the case will be dissmissed
Not true. By law, if you tell them to stop calling you, no matter what your situation is, they must stop. If they continue you may sue them for up to $1000. I know there are those of you who will argue this point, but this came directly from our governments website. I went in looking to see if I could find anything about this law that entitles you to be able to reduce your debt and came across this.
I actually dissagree that they will "work" with you. We missed apayment and they raised the interest up to oh, 35% and then they don't understand why you can't keep making payments (with gas almost @ $4/gal who can afford to go anywhere). We've tried to be reasonable but they're in it to make money and don't care how tough it is for the little guys. Shoot Cconsumer Credit wouldn't even touch us!
Then it's time for bankrutpcy. I went through it, no big deal at all. Actaully, 11 of us went through it the same day with the same lawyer. Gas is less than $2 a gallon in most places.
When the continue to harass people on the phone and they will not leave them alone they deserve to get the air horn. Second, they will have one H of a time making any legal case out of air horn. Just how can the prove who used the air horn. I do not think they are going to call back and ask for the name of the individual who blasted them. Anyway they should be happy that the individual was able to loosen up their ear wax.
The number is from capitalone. THEY WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY. MONEY TALKS, THEY ARE INHUMAN AND DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. When my husband lost his job and I was working 1 full time teaching job and 3 part time jobs. I fell behind in our bills trying to support us both. I called and explained to Capital One that I can't afford to pay them more then $200 a month and that my minimum payment was $1,500. The late fees and finance charges where $300-$500 a month, so I could never pay the balance of what I owed unless they stoped charging me all of these extra fees. I explained that I wanted to pay them what I charged on the card but I couldn't keep up with the constant raise in price. Especially since it had been 9 months since I had charged anything and yet the balance was increasing by leaps and bounds on a card I wasn't using. They said unless if could come up with a $1,500 payment in 5 days they would not be able to lower the fees. Obviously I couldn't come up with the money so I called a lawyer. The credit card company refused to work with me and a credit card balance of $2,500 worth of charges ended up being $10,000 worth of debt! No hassel my foot! All hassel, no help! Now I am paying a Lawyer too!
i am filing chap 7 - my att. told me it wouldnt hurt anything to stop paying credit cards and any other bills that are not living expenses - i get calls from crediters just dont anser them thay dont care thay just want to make your life misserable SO THAY GET NOTHING and a 0 on a credit report looks better than a det manigment co. good luck to us all but we got to take care of us and our familys first if you have talked to and det colecters you know who ther wored about hope some of them go down the dran and end up in the same boat as some of us ( not bitter at all lol )
when they file assault charges that will make it easy for you to know who you will be sueing for breaking the do not call laws they are not allowed to call you if you have to pay for the cal "CELL PHONE MINUTES COST MONEY"
I was laid off in July. We paid our creditors on time until a month ago we can no longer afford to pay our home loan and creditors. In July we made a phone call to capitol one to let them know our financial situation and we can't afford to make the $400 minimum monthly payment and we requested if we can work something out they refused to do anything for us. So much for being a "Value Customer". I was a loyal customer for 7 years, made payments before due dates, paid more than the minimum and paid off balance with in a year (2 different times paid off account balance owed up to $7000 to $9000. Capitol-One did do something for us they raised my interest rate from 7% to 24% for being late 2 days. Now that we are in this situation we had to find other options to make it through this unfortunate situation and to be able to provide for our 3 kids needs...not want but needs!
This used to be the way you dealt with credit companies. In the past, there seemed to be a bit of concern on their part to help you get things worked out. In today's 'REAL' world, this not longer applies. They will take whatever tactic necessary to get their money, and if they feel you can't or won't pay, they will drop you and write off the debt. It's a business decision, and no sob story about what you may be going through in your personal life will matter. You are a financial asset to them. Period. The days of businesses caring for their customers is about over.
Yeah, they helped me out....by raising my card rates to 30% from 22%, because of late payments, I called them 4 times for help and all they could do was split my payment up for that month, thanks Capital One.
Listen, if we were all capable of talking to whoever call and "working it out" Don't you think we would have been paying all along ANYWAY!!! Stupid jac**ss!! *** B L A S T T H A T A I R H O R N ! ! ! !****
I disagree....the law states that they are not to contact you by phone....do you think if you tell them you are having issues paying, they are going to be nice...WRONG!!!! they are going to BLOW UP your home and cell phone from 8am-9pm daily....do they think if they call 16-20x a day that they are going to get better results???? Not everyone is as good off as you are!!
do you people know what job loss, 0 income, med dissability means. LOOK IT UP if we cant meet the bills at 10% what on earth makes you think 39% will help. all i can do is laff at this point
I have contacted them MANY times!!! I owe 1020.00 and was paying 45.00 a month.. two months ago they jacked my rate from 11.9 up to 29.9 and my monthly payment went to 125.00 which I cannot afford!! I am now over 1500.00 which was the limit and keep getting over the limit charges and late fees... sooooo dont think that they will work with you if you just "call" them.. Bottom line is greed and greed....!!!!! atleast when it goes to collection the fees stop and I will be able to pay 45.00 a month until its finished!!
Are you seroius..pay your bill and noone will call you!!!! Who cares if you lost a job or there has been a reduction of income? You should have never carried a balance that you couldn't pay off in those unfortunate events.how dare you get up the nerve to complain..use the energy you used to write this blog to get a job and make some money to pay these people back. No wonder we are in this economic slump. This comment is for all you financial dead beats..grow up
F*** you mister perfect. Like you've never made a mistake. Funny.... if you're so perfect then why are you looking up this number on this site? HUH? Guess it's because they called you by mistake? ASSFACE. Go fall off the planet. Loser.
The reality "reality" is many people do not have the money to pay now due to job loss.....I guess Capital One is f$cked.... Well, they model their credit card for people with 'fair' credit. Folks in this category are the first group to have trouble when the economy has problems.
Sorry, capitol one 'works with' no one. They are relentless even if you talk to them and don't run from the issue. FAX a "Cease and Desist Order"intention that includes your name, phone # and date of birth, last 4 digits of your soc sec # to 1-800-259-3021. State that you assert your right to not receive any further telephone contact from them and to cease immediately. Sign the letter and fax to them.
PLEASE - what world are you in lol def. not in this one at this point i am a firm beleaver in bankruptcy (chap 7 ) and i will never have but one card frome mow on - i dont speek to any det colecters thay dont know what a 0 income means
Right,If I had FREE WILL and CONTROL over my Life I would be a millionaire Lottery winner by now. I am in poverty against my will and have no control over it.
Hey all, get a mp3 that you play at the begining of your message and use the one that is for a disconnected number, they're dialer will 'hear' the tone and will drop your number off the dialing list-HOWEVER- you shoiuld know, depending on your balance you may irritate them and they might start sending you registered letters with ultimatums in them, and they word them VERY TACTICALLY so that if you do not answer or respond you are in default. there are ways to deal with it all, I Rowland Lives will be posting around and have many more ways to keep folks who abuse the relationship with you in check. Peace PS Look at Phone Losers of America website or the like, there are many out there
I understand the no control over poverty. It is a shame we aren't treated like humans. All we are is a number in a system. I never had a late payment or bounced check in my life, I was always early paying my bills, but fate decided to make me terminally ill, and now I can not work. I have mounting medical of around 30 thousand every six months. My medication is 400.00 a month. Social security pays me only around 500.00 a month, so, I have no options. I have talked to these people, and all they say is, well, we need your payment, the fact that you are dying is no concern of ours. Please pay us before your estimated survival time is up. Now, I do believe that is a cold cold heart.
Denise you're an idiot. You think you're so clever with that air horn bullsh** don't you. Those people calling you from capital one are everyday people just trying to get by in life like you are. They are probably hooked up to a dialer system that makes the calls for them. They are probably miserable sitting in a call center at a half a** cubicle or something like it working a job where people yell at them and hang up on them everyday... a job that probably doesn't pay them enough and causes them to struggle with their bills JUST LIKE YOU DO. These people have nothing to do with setting interest rates and probably don't like calling you anymore than you like getting calls from them. AN AIR HORN CAN CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE. Would it really make you happy to send someones mom, brother, son, daughter, dad etc... home that day partially deaf??? Now ask yourself... do you really want to cause misery to another person just because you're miserable??
Yes, poor Capital One. They are such victims over there. I guess we should all just send them more social security numbers and more money. That should make them feel better. Hey, send me some money while your at it. LOL
Disgusted You don't have a clue. An air horn cannot damage your ear over a phone speaker! Putting an air horn directly by your ear would cause damage but not through a low tec. speaker that phones use. Furthermore, it’s the way they go about collecting the debt that makes it a crime, not who they are or what they do in their lives that make them "JUST LIKE YOU". Sounds like you are a debt collector or have worked as one in the past. Good for you! You sound like just as big a fool as who we are talking about. Your nick name should be "NO CLUE" not "Disgusted".
I am a former bill and believe me, I didn't do that job because it was fun, or I wanted to be jerk while people were going through hard times; I did it because that is what I needed to do pay my bills, put food on my table, provide a roof for my Family. And I would like to point out to you that I didn't get to decide how aggressive or passive I was to be. There were guidelines set by the company that I collected for. And when I was (and still am) struggling financially barely making my monthly payments and it was said to me by boss at this collections job, “It’s either them or you so you either need to collect this money or be out of work.”, I did what I had to do to get this money in the door. And while an air horn won’t make you loose your hearing, why go that far out of your way to make someone else’s day. I hated that job but had to do it!
The airhorn would NOT be communicted loud enough over the phone lines to cause hearing impairment. Secondly, even if it was loud enough over the phone lines, it would be workers comp on Capital One.
well thay need a new job - if there not making much money flip burgers - bull**it thay enjoy there job to some degree or THAY WOULDNT DO IT you are just as bad as them - the people on here are in a tuff spot dont beat them up over it - BTW bet i can guss where you work.
People make choices every day. If you choose to make money by being annoying, then you run the risk of an appropriate response. If you chose to make a living selling drugs, I'm sure "I'm just trying to make ends meet" won't get you very far before a judge.
Not a bad technique, but BAD advice about "tell them why.... and you'll pay later..." This is viewed as a debt confirmation and surrenders real, valuable legal rights to the collectors for no reason whatsoever. A few pointers: 1) Never acknowledge, confirm, or agree to pay any debt to a stranger over the telephone. This should be done ONLY in writing and ONLY after getting advice from a good attorney. Your advice has the person called agreeing to whatever the collector says, right or wrong - a very bad move! In writing only. Tell any caller they need to communicate with you in writing and you will not even consider a response otherwise. They will tell you they "can't do that" and "you must deal with this over the phone". That is not true. Refuse. Then politely end the call. There are several very good websites, written by expert attorneys, that will tell you all about this free. Google and learn. 2) ALWAYS record every phone call from collectors. Most of them say, "this call is being recorded and monitored"; this scares a lot of people. You say: "Understood, this call is being monitored and recorded as well, as I have been advised to do." They will then go ballistic and begin to insist you disclose: "Is it an attorney's advice? Is it a bankruptcy attorney?" They will try everything to get information. You have NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER TO DISCLOSE ANYTHING TO STRANGERS OVER THE TELEPHONE, regardless who they claim to be or to work for. Simply say, "I am under no requirement to disclose that information, period." Anything they say is bull****, ignore it. You cannot get into trouble for NOT talking, only talking will make things worse. Most of the large CC companies (Chase, Citi, and Cap1, for a fact) will then say, "Well then, if you are recording the call, and/or have an attorney, we cannot call you or talk with you; and we'll have to TURN THIS OVER TO OUR LEGAL DEPARTMENT" This is where you are supposed to faint with fear. Don't, it's just another manipulation. They are like dope addicts - they will say ANYTHING to get money. Just say NO... Chase will try and DEMAND the attorney's name and address - they say it's "required", or "it's required by law". It is not. They are trying to put you on the spot, saying you are a broke deadbeat who couldn't possibly have an attorney, and daring you to defend your pride and prove them wrong. Don't take the bait. Just politely say, "I'm sorry, but I will not discuss the matter with a stranger on the telephone, but only in WRITTEN CORRESPONDENCE." Chase will stop calling right away. Cap1 and Citi will want to go through the process 2 or 3 times before they stop calling. The fact is, they don't want to get a lawyer involved if you owe less than $5000, especially if it appears you have no money. That's just a "double lose" for them.... 3) Always remember, these folks are dishonest parasites, who destroyed 2 Trillion in private wealth, stole billions through their fraud, got bailed out by the taxpayers, have been given an almost ZERO interest rate by the Fed, and are still DOUBLING (or worse) the interest rates of good customers who have never been late or overlimit one single time ever. Now that's REAL, WORLD CLASS, GREED! Having "perfect credit" doesn't count for very much nowadays with the CC companies, that's a fact! They are predatory scum who steal and defraud as a component of their business plan, and are the worst scofflaws on the planet. If your credit is trashed now, it's gonna be trashed for the next 7 years, regardless what you do (unless you win the lottery, then your credit will then be magically fixed when they think they can take you for more money). Read the excellent websites (the ones put up by attorneys with Credit Law Practices - ignore the others. There is also great information at ftc.gov about the law, the rules, etc. There are some great links on this website as well. Just remember, ADMIT NOTHING, AGREE TO NOTHING, CONFIRM NOTHING, and DISCLOSE NOTHING over the telephone (even in a recorded call); it will NEVER help you and will almost always hurt you. 4) These folks hate documentation. They want to have all the "facts", and be free to alter those "facts" at will. As soon as you demand things be documented, and record their calls (which almost always contain unlawful coercion, etc.), they want out. Why? IN the current environment, the last thing they want is to have to face a jury of citizens who have had their retirement stolen, their interest rates jacked up through the sky, and their jobs disappeared... Think about it.
Relax, do the best you can, and when you can settle for 25 cents on the dollar, if you can. You aren't the one who collapsed the economy. You aren't the crook. You are the victim of the crooks. Don't get mad; but DO call your representatives and get even...
Capital One calls from all different numbers, regardless. You can call Verizon and tell them a new number everyday and Capital One will find a different way of getting in contact with you - like using a local number!
If you write to the company requesting them to stop calling...regardless of the fact that they should do so with a verbal request...they, by law, have to stop calling.
I about cried after reading all the responses below and I called capital one and spoke with someone regarding my payments. My payments were received that were collected by the people at this phone number and were applied to my capital one account. (I hadn't made any since September.... I know that's bad:-(...) So that's why the calls started again. If you get a call from this number-- pay your bill and they'll leave you alone!
Yeah, well I'm getting a call from that number on my new cellphone, which is odd (it's only like 3 weeks old), and I'm only 15, so I'm pretty sure they're not calling -me- to get me to pay a bill. Heh.
It is probably the previous owner of the number. Unless of course they are asking specifically for you. It is possible that you are a victim of identity theft and lines of credit have been opened in your name, it is not an impossibility.
I agree with you! I have a new Cell Phone and this number keeps calling Me and not leaving a message. This is what brought me to this website! I wish We could BLOCK numbers. but, my cell phone can't!
Same thing here! When I first got my cell phone I kept getting calls from Capital One. I don't have a Capital One account. I kept telling them to stop calling, they had the wrong number. After about 6 months they stopped. Now they've started up again this week. I wish I could block them. I don't have free incoming calls, so I don't even bother answering the phone to tell them to stop because I'm not going to pay for their incompetence.
I paid my husbands bill (over the minimum due), the money came out of the bank account this morning and the first call I got was FROM THEM! They don't seem to be leaving us alone! Hmmmmm...
That is why Rowland will live forever helping you to realize that no matter what nice ways they lie when they say they will help you and/or take you off their calling list, I know someone very close to me, and right after the payment was made and they said all calls were cancelled they called the next morning at 8:00 A.M. so they are the ones who are antaganizing things to an arguement and lack of civiality on anyones side. This is one more reason the Amrecian economy is failing. No real skills taught in school like balance check book, teaching about knowing what you can and cannot afford. Their are cases all over setting presidants that are making it possible to sue this bung holes for harassment and requiring their names to be displayed when calling you. You are not alone, unfortunnately. Peace
The best thing to do in all of these situations is find out a fax number for these card companys or email address. If you write them or email. Let them know you are keeping a log of all the calls made to your home and if they don't stop you will report them to the Federal Trade Commision the F.C.C., State Attorney Generals Office, they have to stop under the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act and Federal telephone harrassment laws, including Section 223 of Title 47 of the United States.
The way to stop their calls is to send a cerified letter to Capitol One stating not to call your HOME, CELL or WORK ever and to send correspondence by mail with any requests for payment and/or settlement. If you do not state all of your numbers, the company will use or search for one that was not listed on your letter. Remember, you can settle your own credit card debt on your own and do not need a debt settlement company to do so. They usually will reduce it by 40-60 percent but you just have to keep on them.
According the Better Business Bureau's website, if you request that a company stop calling you by telephone, they have to comply. If not, you can file a complaint with the BBB and they will resolve. All this can be done from their website.
What do you when you can'nt afford to pay your bill? Home is in foreclosure and I am in financial hardship. I get harrassing phone calls everyday. I am so tired of them calling. Please asking for advise.
Only works if you have no established business relationship with them, former or current. If you really owe them money, they unfortunately have every legal right to keep calling you.
i've been receiving calls from this number for about a month, i have not answered because I don't recognize the number, and they don't leave messages. I have a cap 1 card, but am not behind on payments. Is it truly a scam?
disregard first message from teddie. It could be a courtesy call. You could see what they want and if you do not want what they are offering decline it.
Tell them once again the person does not live there and if calls continue, you will report them to the BBB. It would be a good idea to log the date and time of each call.
I keep getting calls from this number 10 times day for the past 45 days!what should I do? I told them several times that the person they are calling for no longer has this number and we got it 4 months back
I, too, have been getting calls from this company for the past 8 weeks on my new cell phone. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Richmond, Virginia and I have called them twice. I have never done business with this company nor do I want to. I owe them nothing! These people are ruthless!
They owe me for using my phone to harrass me 24/7.
The calls started again this morning. They are from the Capitol One collection agency. Their address is: Signet Bank-Virginia MasterCard Customer Service Collections; 11013 West Broad Street; Glen Allen, Virginia 23060.
I had received a letter from Leanne N. at Capitol One via the Better Business Bureau stating that my phone number had been placed on their calling list erroneously and the calls would stop within 72 hours. That was on the 17th and this is the 27th. The calls have increased. Today, I called the number of their office: 1-800-955-7070. I stayed on the line until I got an operator because I don't have a credit card with them. I was told, once again, that the calls would stop within 48 hours. We'll see.
I cannot believe that people like this are allowed to be in business. Nasty, nasty people.
All you have to do is tell them I no longer want phone calls to my home, cell or business....please contact me by written correspondence only this is your official notice and it is my right under the Fair Credit act to choose to do so.
And like majic they will no longer call you anymore
It is for Capital One collections department. I found this out by calling the number on the back of my card and asking about it. Capital One verified that it was for collections, but not on my account and was someone else in my same household.
P.S. NEVER, EVER call back a number on your voice mail and give them your name, verify your address, your telephone number, SSN, and your mother's maiden name, plus any other ID information that you have. Find out who own's the number or something close to it, and call the number on the back of your card only. If it is collections, they can transfer you.
This number calls like three to four times a day he ask for some lady named Amy. I told hem he's got the wrong number but they argue with me! This is very much on the border line of harassment.
Careful of some replies, The only reason I can think of for anyone to be at this message base for this number is if they are the victim of this caller, and why would they be badmouthing the other posters here? Could it be they are associated with the callers.......hmmmm!!!!!
Could be! yes if you owe a dept you should pay, BUT you should not be harrassed about it. The fact that no message is left makes the call suspect. If you are being harrassed by a collector there are recourse open to you. Send the collector a registered letter demanding they cease and desist, they may then only contact you to inform you of changes to what you owe or changes to the legal status of your account, they also may not use threats of legal actions, so rcord your conversations with them. and yes you can record them and yes that recording is legal evidence as long as you are a party in the recorded conversation and were aware it was being recorded.
those companys work on a dialer if u told them is was a wrong number yesterday, it needs time to be removed ... just be patient. and also if ur number is the number on riichs acout , it could take a lot longer
I am behind about 2 months on my credit card payment and these guys keep calling me every shift they get.. Talk about a pain in the @$$.. should i tell them my story or just send them money when i can?
Yeah, thisis the 2nd round of calls for us... they are from Capitol One VISA ... calling about *payment arrangements* ... I called back a customer service number and spoke w/ a real voice who asked for the account number and the last 4 of my social, & my birth date. ok so far ? Then I explained that I had informed them of my pending bankruptsy, that I did not have a case number yet - because we have not filed - and it was undetermined what chapter we are filing. Then I asked to please have the phone calls stopped from the auto dialler . 800 955 6600. He said he could have the calls stopped for 10 days. Fine, better than nuthin, I guess. He was courteous, I was courteous ... case closed, for now.
To all. I filed an official complaint at http://fcc.gov. The FCC provides this website specifically for the kinds of problems I see described here. This site lets you provide specific information for filing a formal complaint. They also allow you to digitally "sign" an "Attestation" page which gives them legal right to pursue the boogers.
I got a response letter from them about four days later confirming the information I provided.
This process at least lets your voice be heard. I whole hearted recommend everyone here and those finding this site in the future this in the same manner.
I have been receiving these phone calls for approximately 3 months, I have never had an account opened with Capital One. The phone numbers they are calling from are 1-866-929-5307, 1-866-381-0453 and 1-800-955-6600. I contacted them today, and when asked for my phone number she said "We do not have any accounts listed with that phone number, it will be removed from our list, it will take about 3 days" So, for the people who think that you get these phone calls because you have unpaid debt, you are incorrect, mine was because of an incorrectly listed telephone number!
