"Please hold for an important message."  Then silence.  5 seconds later repeated.  This happened for about 45 seconds.  Then I just hung up.  If someone calls my house and tells me to hold, the message had better be from the president.  And he better be telling me he's resigning.  :-)

Same thing, won't stop calling and harassing me.

"Please hold for an important message" 5 minutes of silence...then I hang up.

Could possibly be Citibank i do have student loans with them and they are pretty much the worst company I've ever dealt with as far as customer service.

Do not get loans through Citibank they are brutal to deal with.

Same trouble with Citibank customer service, my student loans ended up with them! The loans were consolidated with another company.  Now Citibank does not respond to E-mail deferment requests. Instead they call to use up my cell phone minutes.

It is legal...when you applied you put your Father down as the emergency contact.

I always put incorrect phone numbers on applications for just that reason. I'm a struggling student who cant always pay the full amount each month- do all my friends and family need to know about it? Nope...

I can tell by your response, ANON, that you are truly a rude turd bill collector.. I bet you are good at what you do.. Ever tried to play nice and simply ask for what they can afford to pay as opposed to trying to get them to give more than they can afford so that they are late with someone else?  I work for the Justice Department and have to deal with you a-holes on a regular basis for the crap you turds pull.  Use other tactics I bet you would be more successful and you may even change your moniker from turd to swell guy to deal with... Know what I mean?
  • I guess it was citibank

I got this one, except it didn't even say "please hold for..."  Just silence. I saw this thread and checked my Citibank student loan, and sure enough, I'd forgotten to pay my bill last month! Thanks folks.

It's absolutely Citibank. They've harassed me starting at 4:50 am (PST) up until 11:10 pm!!

And, it was over $80. I accidentally paid incorrectly one month and with a late fee + interest it resulted in them harassing me at all hours of the day instead of spending 41 cents to mail me a letter showing my mistake.

The call was from citibank student loans.  I already made the payment on time (usually the day it's due like I ALWAYS do).  Anyway, the collection agency called saying I didn't pay it so I went online and looked and there was my confirmation number and it said pending.  The lady from citibank was oh well it should clear tonight don't worry about it and I asked if she could make these people stop calling me and she said no because it's autmoated through the computer.

I had experienced the same problem for months: paying on or just before the due date and getting endless phone calls requesting the payment.
The issue is that Citi has a precarious IT system and takes them more than 48hs to process the payment.  Then if the payment process is not finished by the due date, you will get the call...
I tried several things, but just gave up. I pay three days in advance to the due date.
PS: this month I paid just 24hs in advance and got the call...

It says on the payment screen if you pay on your due date online you will be past due it clearly says how many business days it takes to process.  Paying online is a service they offer they could make you mail your check in every month and if you did that on your due date as well you would be past due, due date means money in their hand on that date.  So all this leads to why don't you just change your due date, or pay 3 business days before the due date.
