A John More calling on behalf a certified non-profit agency left a message saying this was the FINAL call about lowering my interest rate on credit cards and I should have receive a letter but they got no response.  If I didn't call back soon they'd close my file.  I called the number just long enough to hear how they answered it.  They answered it "Debt Relief".

Of course they got no response.  IF I had gotten a letter from them, I tossed it.  Also, this "final call" was the first unless they didn't leave messages before.

Same call from John Moore, saying he's calling from a "non-profit" agency. My voice system said the call came from 617-245-9610.  I called that number and got the voice mail of Richard Prenium (?).  I hung up.

Received call in the call center where I work. Really irritating. No option to remove from call list since we are a business.

John Mohr with an agency who could help me lower my credit card interest, called and offered me my final chance to lower my rates.  He left this on my office voice mail.

I have been getting this FINAL call for at least 5 MONTHS!! They leave same message, sometimes different people. Some weeks we got a call everyday! And we never have gotten "the letter". Number given to call back was 1-800-978-4581.(John Moore. And we are on the national DO NOT CALL list, but we still keep getting these types of calls.

Today, July 21st, 2008, I received the following message: Quote:

" Hi, this is John Moore, calling on behalf of a certified non-profit agency. And this is the final call you receive about your approval to lower the interst rate on your credit card. You should have received a letter in the mail, but we have not heard back from you! Our rates are a low as 1.5% - and, it is important that you do not make a mistake and pay those high interest rates on your card.

Again - this is your final courtesy call that we will make before we close out your file.
Again - this is John Moore. It is important that you call me today at 1-800-978-4581." End of Quote.

    My caller ID displayed: 269-768-2180.

I never received anything from that certified non-profit agnecy that this John Moore [or whatever his real name may be!!] forgot to mention. But we all know how this goes.

[Male voice; words in parentheses are slurred.]

At, hi, this is... ah... John Moore.  (I'm) calling on behalf of a certified non-profit agency and...ah...this is the final call... you will receive about your approval to lower the interest rates on your credit cards?  Ahm... you should have received a letter in the mail and... ah... we still have not heard back from you yet.  Our rates are as low as one point five per cent and... ah... it's imperative that you don't make the mistake of paying the high interest rates on these, ah, cards another day.  Ah, again, this is the FINAL courtesy call that we'll make before we close out your file.  Ah, again, my name is John Moore.  It's imperative that you give me a call today at, uh, 1-800-978-4581.  Again, it's 1-800-978-4581.

[I have no credit cards and I have received no "letter".  Sound familiar?

These calls appear to originate from a sleazy "collection agency" whose employees misrepresent themselves as selling "get rich quick schemes", "credit counseling".  A false name which admits variant spellings and "imperative" seems to be one constant scheme of these sleazy "collection scams".  Area code 617 is the city of Boston; area code 269 is the lower peninsula area of Michigan, which does suggest that the caller is spoofing caller ID.  This "collection agency" appears to often employ recorded messages, which is why I included the "punctuation" above.

But there may be an even deeper level of deception here: I have noticed indications this sleazy "collection agency" works with criminal "spamming gangs" to use software to "spoof" caller ID for "voice over internet" (VOIP) calls.  So ultimately, these callers may work for the Russian mob.  Regardless, it seems clear that calling the number can only make the harrassment worse--- these collection scams appear to work much like "Nigerian scams", except run by phone rather than email.  Our best recourse appears to be to report these calls to our various state Attorney General's offices.  If they receive enough complaints, they may launch a criminal investigation under laws like the "CAN-SPAM act". Another possibility would be uploading recordings of these calls to Has anyone thought of uploading recordings of these calls to https://secure.wikileaks.org/wiki/Wikileaks
so that investigators can apply voice recognition technology to verify the identity of any callers who might be arrested.  I am confident that these calls involve criminal activity. ]

Just received this same call from John Moore.  Call came from 269-789-2180 but left a message to call 1-800-978-4581.  This is also a business.  I also did not receive any letter.  It is obvious I will not return this call and if I get a letter it will go in my trash.

Same story as everyone else. My number is unlisted AND I'm in the middle of a Chapter 13 with absolutely no credit cards whatsoever still in my name. They shouldn't be able to call like this. Too bad there isn't anything we can do to stop it.
